This sums up my reaction

Ok, I guess Rick is an asshole and Dan is an asshole. Dan is a sort of playful asshole, Rick is a vicious asshole, but neither one of them actually accomplished anything truly significant. Rick is not really a “victim” because Dan’s efforts did not cost Rick any support that he would not have lost from just being asshole Rick.
All just a butterfly in a teapot.
Now, now. Maybe he’s just not aware that what prompted it was Santorum comparing the love that Dan Savage has for his partner to wanting to fuck a dog. That and a legislative career attempting to pass all kinds of legislation that would make him a second class citizen.
That has to be it. Nobody who knew what prompted Dan Savage to do what he did could possibly say he was the bad guy there.
Take it a step further back to what prompted the whole thing.
Santorum was appalled by the Supreme Courts decision Lawrence v. Texas. He was actively advocating the police should be able to put people in prison for having gay sex. Saying Savage’s relation was akin to bestiality was his way of defending himself after Savage called him a bigot.
Santorum really is one of the worst people in this country.
I don’t disagree. Rick Santorum is terrible. I said Dan Savage is puerile, and his stunts make him look bad, not Santorum.

I was appalled when I first heard the story, understanding when I learned the full story, and now fully support his “screw the high road” attitude on this issue.

A buddy of mine’s mom was a Chicago cop and while Seagal was prepping for a movie she had to squire him around in a ride-along. He offered his help if things got bad. She noted that his wicked skillz consisted of Tai Chi on a movie set, that he wasn’t really bulletproof, and that he should stay in the fucking car. Fucking tool.
Now he wants SWAT teams to remove kids forcibly from adoptive gay couples:
