Well, I did just read a report that said more Republican legislators have been arrested for shenanigans in bathrooms than transgender people have been.
He of course insists this is not true by claiming he was merely being a sexist asshole
Y’know, for like a couple of decades the “conservatives” were content to be badly hung up on Teh Gayz; all of a sudden they’re really freaking out over the “T” part of LGBT all over the place…
They’ve always been freaking out about the ‘T’ part. The ‘LGB’ part just had more targets. Now that it’s been made clear bullying gay people isn’t acceptable they’ve decided targeting Transgender people is somehow still acceptable.
Really they just want to hate. They’ll take whatever target they think the can get away with.
Because they lost so badly on Teh Gayz. Not just via the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, but via steadily changing public attitudes, especially among younger people.
Majorities of conservatives used to be heartily opposed to racial integration too, and after that to Women’s Lib. They lost decisively on those issues as public attitudes chaned, and had to dredge up a new movement for social equality that they could be indignantly opposed to.
They are presently hoping that their current target of indignant opposition will have more staying power, but I don’t think they’ve bargained for the ridicule potential of the extent of rhetoric it will require that explicitly references willies and hoo-has.
