Stupid Republican idea of the day

Newt Gingrich apparently thinks you can reliably identify the terrorists by simply asking them whether they “believe in” sharia law:

Mr. Gingrich made no apparent distinction between US and non-US citizens, nor did he seem to mention where he thought the US citizens who failed his little ‘test’ should be deported to.

Hey, I believe in sharia. That is, I’m pretty certain it exists, as a concept. Guess I’d better pack my bags.

This is just like that ‘Republicans v gay sex’ thing, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure that all the Republicans wailing about Internet porn are frantically fapping away to it every spare moment of their day.

Shouldn’t we just ask them if they are terrorists, and if they say “yes” we deport them?

No, because they have a certain low degree of cunning and many will see through such a plan, subtle as it may be. I say, make a cross of bacon and lay it on the exposed skin of the suspect; if they scream, “IT BURRRNSS!!” you have your answer.

Is the bacon fresh out of the pan? Because, you know…

Well, sure, there may be a few false positives, but for a situation as serious as this, we must err on the side of caution, no?

He tried, but more and more just keeps showing up on his work computer.

Remember, if you’re a computer techy guy, and a chiquita says her boyfriend claims that the porn on his 'puter was put there by a virus, you answer “Oh, yeah, sure, happens all the time!”

Bros! We can’t actually win, but we can lose slower.

Can I be tested with a Star of David made of bacon? Because then I get 6 strips instead of just the two.

It does!. Well, not all the time, but at least it has happened once or twice. I’m doing my part: I teach this case in my security and forensics classes. Never forget!

[Serious aside: the guy in the linked case was accused of accessing child porn, and his life was pretty much ruined. Turned out his machine was compromised and he was not aware of the access to the porn images. His employer and the state botched the investigation horribly and the guy had to spend a ton of money to exonerate himself. Awful story all around. I teach it as an example of how not to handle investigations.]

Donald Trump has a new logo for himself and his new VP pick, Mike Pence. He may want to rethink it.

Too late. It’s on the internet. May as well try to stop the tide.

My favorite comment: “This logo is not welcome in certain Indiana pizzarias”

I was watching The View this morning (don’t judge me!) and they talked about that Newt quote just after they talked about Mike Pence’s “religious freedom” law. The Republicans just have no sense of irony.

For another example of not well-thought-out consequences in advertising, I invite all to Google “University of North Texas coffee mug”.

Does it mean Trump is in his Pence?

Weren’t no think there to “re-”.

On the other hand, I bet they’ve sold a lot of them.

OMFG! That’s beyond amazing! Someone either needs to win the Nobel Prize for that, or be thrown to the piranha.

Its Texas, they are entirely capable of doing both. They’ll put up a laudatory memorial right on the spot where they fed him to the snap turtles.
