Kansas Senate pro tem quotes Hitler and calls the quote “profound”.
I did like (for some degree of like) where she said, “Every American’s sacred vote MUST be respected and legitimized in today’s elections.” You know, except minorities, native Americans, Muslims, immigrants, etc.
She *did *specify “Americans’”, weren’t you listening ? She meant the Real ones.
“See? People are stupid. All we need to do is keep repeating simple slogans until we have them repeating the same thing and not realizing we’re fucking them raw!”
Rest of GOP: “Yeah, we mastered that 30 years ago. Do catch up.”
He does kinda have a point. If 52 Senators have decided that they will vote against any nominee that Obama appoints no mater what, than there really isn’t any more point to wasting everyone’s time holding doomed confirmation hearings than there was to hold umpteen Benghazi hearings.
The problem isn’t that they aren’t holding hearings it’s that they have decided that no Obama nominee will be acceptable whether or not there are hearings.
And that’s their prerogative, as long as they follow the process for rejecting a nominee. And understand that if Trump should win and Democrats take the Senate, that no Trump nominee will be approved either(unless it’s a liberal judge of course).
Not that we’ll ever be able to settle the bet, but I would be willing to bet a hypothetical Trump nominee (threw up in my mouth a little bit while typing that) would at least get a HEARING from a Democratic Senate. Would you take that bet?
Does anyone else notice how often those on the right compare the actual behavior of Republicans to what they think Democrats would do in the same situation? It’s as if the real world and their pretend world somehow cancel each other out.
Those are the people who ask, “Why isn’t ‘honky’ as offensive as ‘coon’?”
Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin is downplaying concerns about climate change, saying “civilization thrives” in warmer weather and people will adapt.
He said in a Monday radio interview on WHBY in northeast Wisconsin that “mankind has actually flourished in warmer temperatures.” Johnson said — in his words — “How many people are moving up toward the Antarctica, or the Arctic? Most people move down to Texas and Florida, where it’s a little bit warmer.”
An entire political party has embraced anti-science.
Republican candidates say ads that say they support Trump are defamation of character.
That wasn’t the argument I was making. I do believe Democrats would give a Trump nominee a fairer shake than Garland is getting. And I’ve said before that what the Republicans are doing is wrong and sets a bad precedent. Democrats would be entirely justified if they responded in kind. In fact, if they don’t, they leave themselves at a major disadvantage. Republicans could get nominees confirmed even with Democratic Senates, but Democrats couldn’t get nominees confirmed unless there was a Democratic Senate.
Except they aren’t. As you fucking well know.
Not everything your party does needs to be, or can be, defended, yanno?
Tell us why you think so.
If we can ignore all the other empty federal judgeships, let’s concentrate on the Supremes. The original excuse to refuse to even consider President Obama’s nominee was that it was so late in his term. Although it wasn’t terribly late when the guy was named. And there’s no rule, “unspoken” or otherwise. Now there’s a new excuse.
It’s quite possible we will take the Senate. In the exceedingly unlikely chance we get a President Trump, I doubt the Democrats will just ignore any of his nominees. Why not take the chance to rake them over the coals on live TV? (Even if it is only CSPAN.)
(Why haven’t the Republicans taken the opportunity to show their brilliance in grilling Obama’s nominee? Because it would just make them look bad? Well, even worse?)
Because Garland is qualified and generally unobjectionable. Solid liberal except on criminal justice issues and possibly Ciitzens United.
What they should do is hold a snap vote and put him on the court now. I don’t think Obama ever intended for him to be confirmed, so if you really want to thwart him, confirm Garland now before he can pull the nomination.
Is there a special thread for Trump stupidity?
If not, I’ll mention here that Donald Trump, Jr. proudly had a photo taken with a Latina wearing a “Latina Contra Trump” T-shirt. That Junior is stupid may come as no surprise, but I think that’s Mrs. Junior also in the photo — I guess she wasn’t selected to be Mrs. Junior for her IQ.
It’s understandable that the Trumps wouldn’t want to learn the language of rapists, but I think most 8th-graders would guess the meaning of “Contra.”
You really hate the President, don’t you? Why would a Constitutional scholar engage in a silly trick like that? Sounds more like Your Guy’s tactics…
You’re too funny.
You love to give this sort of backhanded compliment to Democrats like Obama: “This was a pretty good choice, but that just shows that they’re being disingenuous.”
You’re one of those self-serving assholes who tries to fool people into thinking you’re a reasonable person by using temperate language in making your asinine claims.
