Bwaa?? This is in no way a wave election. Trump squeaked out a win without winning the popular vote, and Republicans lost seats in the House and Senate. To call this a wave election is to cheapen the term to mean any win in a presidential election. Next you will be telling me Trump won a mandate.
As part of making liberals and Democrats better, I think we need to stay away from click-baity hyperbolic “truthy” (rather than “facty”) articles like this one. Yes, Ryan was being political in trying to dissociate racist assholes from the Republican party, and he was probably being disingenuous to some degree in pretending that there’s absolutely nothing to claims of association between racism and conservatism/Republicans. But he also said “People who espouse those views, they’re not Republicans. We don’t want them in our party even if they’re thinking about it.” That’s actually a good thing that we should want Republicans to say more often.
IMO, articles like that are part of the bubble and don’t help liberals and Democrats make progress and have success politically. I urge Dopers to be more circumspect and have higher standards when it comes to claims from liberal strongholds on the internet – I don’t think this one meets the standard.
I think we’ll all agree that there is a conservative infotainment sphere that has ill-served serious conservatives and Republicans (and the country at large) for years – this includes Breitbart, Infowars, Hannity, and much more.
There are equivalents on the left, even if they’re much smaller and less influential than Breitbart and Hannity. But we still shouldn’t trust or rely on them, and we should call them out when they’re utilized – I think New Century Times is a click-baity aggregator (notice heavy use of ALL CAPS and words like STUNNING and EVERYTHING WE HOPED FOR in headlines on their homepage), and thus pretty much useless when trying to suss out fact from fiction.
I saw a headline that said Newty said the new administration was going to ignore reason, but down the article, his quote (something about not being reasonable) did not match up with the headline. If he had literally said that, I certainly would have posted the story. We all make mistakes. It is better to explore the sources than to just slap up Kos and Rawstory articles without looking into them, for the sake of this thread remaining valid and useful.
I wonder if this putz, Matt Vespa, knows that Obama got more EC votes both times. Somehow I just can’t envision his “Obama Landslide” articles. Fucking moron.
You know what would be great? It would be great if you could stick to actual news sites. Then when they had videos, why, they’d actually be at the primary sources of the videos! AMAZING!
There is a bill proposed in the Georgia state legislature to ban the wearing of burqas and hijabs. The article starts off mentioning the ban while getting DMV photos taken, which is fine, but it then goes on to say, “Spencer said his legislation was intended to apply to women who are driving on public roads, but the wording suggests the restriction might also apply to any kind of public property.”
Yes, burqas might be problematic. But they are exceedingly rare–I think I’ve seen two here in diverse Houston. On patients at the TMC–probably rich ladies who flew in, will fly out if they live & will not drive here.
