Trump’s storm troopers!
Not Republican (more like Russian) idiocy per se, though there is a connection to the Liberty Caucus. But the local CBS station in Atlanta ran an investigation of Pizzagate and wanted to know why it isn’t being seriously reported by the mainstream media. The guy who did the “investigation” is a former reporter for Putin’s English language propaganda arm, Russia Today/RT
You know, it’s not that he’s a bullshitter that’s irritating. It’s that he barely makes token attempts at hiding when he’s bullshitting. At least have the fucking decency and respect to lie to me about lying to me !
This most epic of SDMB threads needs to take a deep breath and gather itself. After tonight it will be a long 2 years to the mid-terms - the days will be packed. How to pace, and prioritize?
No doubt to sweep him into the White House with powers that will make martial law seem like… a good idea.
Dennis Hastert wants one of the children he violated to return his hush money.
Anyone think that might be a law that should go away?
Pretty much every personal-injury lawyer who advertises on daytime television loves the idea.
I’m trying to understand the kind of mindset that would bring forth this kind of action. “Hmm, I molested this kid, then paid him to shut up about it. Now he’s talking about it. I want the money I gave him to not to send my child-rapist ass to jail back!” What kind of fucking awful person does that?
It was a contract. Just because it was illegal does not mean it is not valid. Hastert did not receive what he paid for (silence), hence the other party is in breach of contract and liable for the value paid. If we dismiss contracts just because they are criminal in nature, society will collapse.

It’s a little more understandable (although still appalling) from the linked article’s account of it as a response to his victim’s lawsuit against Hastert.
See, Hastert paid $1.7M of a promised $3.5M in hush money before the whole sordid story blew, and now the victim is suing Hastert for the rest of the promised sum, and Hastert in response is saying nah, contract broken, in fact you should give back the money you already got.
Alright, where’s Bricker when we need him?
Trump spokesmoron Tom Barrack says that they can’t squeeze in a performance by noted supporter Kanye West at the inauguration because the program is all filled up with “typically and traditionally American” entertainment.
This is why we need tort reform !
I suppose we need a ruling on the legality of this clusterfuck.
Obviously, the mass molestation was illegal.
As for the hush money. If the victim initiated (pay me or I go to the press!), then it is blackmail, right? And that would be illegal. If Hastert initiated (please keep quiet, here’s some money!), then legal??? And if he initated, it is a contract, and he broke it by not paying all the money?
I suppose we might start a new thread for the new levels of Stupid we’re about to experience. This thread started for something specifically Obama-related. So it seems ok to start one for something Trump-related.
Equipoise, would you like to ask for this thread to be closed and start a new one?
There already is one.
