Georgia Republican enraged at court order making it easier for people to vote
Republicans on the House Veterans Affairs Committee proposed a new bill to slap a $100 a month fee on military members to pay for their GI Bill benefits. Fortunately, after much uproar, they have, at least, temporarily, changed their minds.
The nominee for Commandant of Cadets at the Air Force Academy is a lesbian, and the homophobes are losing their shit.
This isn’t really all that bad. As the article notes, before 2008 the fee was attached. When I entered the military in '91, we had to sign up in Basic and pay $100 for 12 months. It’s not that bad really considering nowadays, it’s worth sometimes over $100,000 depending on where you live and what school you go to.

I wouldn’t consider that a tax. Like I said, I paid it and I didn’t consider it a tax. It was a pretty good deal when I paid it, and it’s a fantastic deal now. I’m not too worried about it.

Yeah, she put the “S” in the term Gutter Slut. As Georgia’s Secretary of State — its chief elections officer, Karen Handel was a top advocate for a then-innovative method of voter suppression. She spearheaded an illegal purge of Georgia’s voting rolls. And she even tried to prevent Democratic candidates from appearing on the state’s ballots. And her shenanigans didn’t end there.
Call it a fee, call it whatever you want, it still looks bad.
Maybe, but there are a lot of actually bad things that are happening other than paying $1200 to get upwards of $100000 of educational benefits that can be passed to your spouse and/or child.
Really? I mean, I think her actions and predilections to rig elections in the GOP’s favour are reprehensible and vile and she’s lower than pond scum because of them, and even I wouldn’t have reached for “gutter slut” as an insult. Have you considered maybe using less blatantly misogynistic language in such instances?

I’m not arguing that you shouldn’t insult her in the strongest terms - please do. I’m arguing that your choice of specific insult belies underlying issues you appear to have with women. You’ve used the term “gutter slut” repeatedly in recent weeks about various right-wing women - Handel, Conway, Melania, DeVos, Coulter - and while at least four of those are horrible people who make the world a worse place (I’m still making up my mind about Melania, someone you’ve also labelled “First Cunt”) the use of angry sexualized language to refer to them wouldn’t have occurred to me.
C’mon, man. Raise your game a little. Or get a thesaurus.

Read the accompanying documents. He wasn’t fired because of the October 28th announcement that the FBI was re-opening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server. No, he was fired because of the July 5th announcement that Clinton would not be prosecuted.
Which is an interesting point. The role of the FBI is to investigate, and the decision to prosecute should be with the Attorney General. Still, you have to wonder why something that happened ten months ago suddenly became worth firing him over. And the fact that he’s being fired for clearing Trump’s opponent, while the statement that torpedoed her 11 days before the election is hardly mentioned, absolutely reeks of partisanship.
In the termination letter, Trump also managed to slip in a statement that he, personally, is not under investigation. He is an evil, scheming asshole.
I don’t wonder at all. Trump is pathological thin-skinned and never forgets even the smallest slight. Comey’s appearance yesterday just triggered that memory and brought it all back so he got his revenge .
And if he was a smart businessman he would know that you give as little information in a resignation letter as possible, you just talk about how you feel the employees perspectives are not conducive to the company’s core mission or some equivalent doublespeak,wish them well in their future endeavors and leave it at that.
