Stupid Republican idea of the day

Ivanka wants to be the first female president.

The thought of the Trumps becoming a political dynasty makes me want Cthulhu to eat the planet even more.

“Even more”?

Presumably they meant that their existing desire to see the planet be eaten would increase, but I can’t disprove the possibility that an eldritch abomination has been progressively turning upwards of 30% of the population insane for years, and has physically eaten southern Florida.

Not sure where to put this, but:

Roy Moore’s accuser’s house has burned down. Arson suspected.

Two steps forward, three steps back for Alabama.

From the “WTF were you thinking” file:

Video here, in case you doubt.

There have also been recent fires at the Clintons’ place in NY, and at Trump Tower. Weird, but not a SRIOTD.

Republican Rep. Steve Alford says we need to ban pot because African Americans can’t handle it safely.
It’s in their genes, y’know.

Almost every drug criminalization law on the books was passed for racists reasons. When white people were getting addicted to opiates a century ago, the response was labeling laws and treatment. Some Southern Senator claims it is driving blacks to come after white women, lock them up!

So now the Repubs are believing science? I’m certain Alford will cite the study concerning the genetic weakness of African Americans.

From The Journal of Well, Just Look At Them!

Joe Arpaio has announced his candidacy for the Senate. Talk about stupid Republican ideas.
Ex-Arizona sheriff Arpaio says he will run for Senate?

Texas appears to be close to passing a bill that would essentially require women to buy insurance before having an abortion, even if it’s the result of rape.

https://ourvoiceny.com/texas-house-representatives-bill-women-buy-rape-insurance/

But weren’t these the same people who were arguing that forcing people to purchase health insurance was the worst thing ever and akin to slavery?

I’m hoping people bring that up in the resulting lawsuits.

Considering that the bill appears to be close to passing both houses of the Texas legislature, this might very well be the dumbest idea in the entire (8 year) history of this thread.

Maybe it would fail if people started calling “Prenatal Obamacare”?

First, this bill is not “close to passing”; it was passed and signed into law by Texas Governor Greg Abbott back in August.

Second, the bill does not require women to buy insurance before having an abortion. What it does is require the purchase of supplemental insurance coverage by women who want a (possible) abortion paid for by insurance rather than out of pocket. The rationale for this, on the part of the conservatives who passed it, is that people who oppose abortion on moral or religious grounds should not have to subsidize it.

The law is an abomination, yet another disgusting attempt by conservative assholes to make abortions more difficult and more expensive. And it contains no exception for rape or incest. It also effectively makes health care more expensive for women, and disproportionately screws poor women. In other words, it’s a fairly standard piece of Texas legislation.

n/m, edit addressed my question.

So this is insurance you have to carry if you are a woman, and you may get an abortion in the future, even if not pregnant now?

That’s pretty fucked up. Who is subsidizing the abortion, anyway? I can almost understand people’s reluctance to let their tax dollars go towards abortion (but I don’t like my tax dollars going for war, what can you do), but demanding that the private insurance industry separate out their insurance and require supplemental?

It would seem to me that the insurance companies would love to pay for an abortion rather than a delivery, and would far rather pay for an abortion at a proper provider than pay for medical treatment after a botched job.
