There are even special procedures for non-citizen vets to become citizens on an advanced schedule. And even when not yet citizens, the still get the veterans benefits.
When I worked at the county veterans service office, if a non-citizen honorably-discharged vet came in, we offered to get them sworn in as citizens very quickly. We had Judges in the county who would schedule that ASAP.
What? Why? We’d already got the service out of them, why not kick them out before they can use the VA benefits?

I used to think there were a few good things about Romney, and it wouldn’t have been the end of the world if he got elected (not that I would have voted for him, though.) When he took a seemingly principled stand and spoke out against Trump in 2016, it gave me hope that not all republicans were completely insane. But now, ugh.
