McConnell says bill that would make Election Day a federal holiday is a ‘power grab’ by Democrats

…“So this is the Democrats’ plan to ‘restore democracy,’” McConnell said, describing the legislation as “a political power grab that’s smelling more and more like what it is.”

The far-reaching legislation would also prohibit the purging of voter rolls, require presidential and vice-presidential candidates to release their tax returns, compel states to adopt independent redistricting commissions and create a matching system for small-dollar donations to congressional campaigns, among other changes.

In his Wednesday remarks, as well as in a Washington Post op-ed earlier this month, McConnell mocked the legislation as the “Democrat Politician Protection Act.”

“H.R. 1 would victimize every American taxpayer by pouring their money into expensive new subsidies that don’t even pass the laugh test,” McConnell said on the Senate floor.

His remarks prompted a wave of criticism by Democrats, some of whom argued that McConnell was acknowledging that Republicans want to make it more difficult for Americans to vote.

The Sheriff of Sacramento County is a right winger who ran for Congress (and lost) against the incumbent Congressman. He is still Sheriff, unfortunately. He recently ordered the former City Chief of Police out of his offices because the ex-Chief was hired by the County Board of Supervisors to investigate the Sheriff’s offices and their interactions with the public.
So, anyway, he’s now being sued by ACLU and Black Lives Matter for deleting their comments off of the Sheriff’s official Facebook page, and blocking them.

When asked about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi calling Trump’s proposed wall along the US southern border “immoral,” Sanders told CBN, “The idea that protecting the people of your country, which is the fundamental duty of being president of the United States, would in some way be immoral is a ridiculous charge.”

First: why did they wail and moan so much about Obama being President then? Didn’t God want him to be President? :dubious:

Second: so if Trump’s position was that all people arrested for being in the country illegally should have their limbs chopped off so they can’t walk across the border again and then they were sterilized so they couldn’t produce children who might cross the border illegally; that wouldn’t be immoral because all Trump is doing is “trying to protect the people of his country”? :dubious:
