Stupid Republican idea of the day

Representatives take the role of prosecutors and defense attorneys during the trial in the Senate (with the Senators as the jury).

You know that census citizenship question which totally isn’t aimed at decreasing Democratic votes? Well, the GOP strategist who decided on that totally innocent question died recently and his daughter found his thumb drives and you might be surprised to find out that apparently his intentions were actually to disadvantage Democrats.

“President Trumpo” sounds like the name of the head clown at Ringling Bros.

Can’t it be both? It was a long, ongoing process.

The answer, obviously, is to make abortion illegal for white women and mandatory for black, brown, Mooslim, and non-English-speaking women. Not sure about them orientals– yeah, they’re smart an’ all, but there are an awful lot of them. Better include 'em, 'cause they’re smart enough to take over. We want white, Christian, high-school-edumacated working people.

Yes, those that are members of the House Judiciary. However, Newt was not a member of this committee, being the Speaker (until his resignation from the Speakership in 1998).

Ah. Thanks.

I appreciate being reminded of that moment. Zoooooom…SPLAT!

Georgia Congressional candidate is running ads with pictures of AOC and Bernie Sanders, saying, “I will fight Socialists in Congress like I fought terrorists” in Iraq, while showing him shooting a rifle.

No, but iut might be boith.

All more evidence they can’t win with better ideas, only voter suppression and violence.

And it is not without the specific intent of putting some violent ideas out there. Not that they would want anyone to follow up on their ideas, oh, no, they would be shocked, shocked if someone were to actually follow through on the “metaphor” that they invoke.

this is as good a place as any to bring up this shit

It is an inspiring short video that was displayed at a Fresno Grizzlies baseball game on Memorial Day, featuring a heartfelt speech by old Ronnie, which I have cued up to about thirty seconds before the objectionable part, in order for the meat of the intended message to be fully clear.

As he is saying “… these are the enemies of freedom …” we are treated to images of: a person (woman, I think) wearing a mask that says “antifa”; a picture of Kim Jong-un; a picture of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; a picture of Fidel Castro; and two more images of black-clad street protesters.

Castro is buried in the ground. -un is fairly insignificant to us, other than the fact that Individual-1 wants to have sex with him. That leaves some of our own citizens, including an elected official, as the important enemies of our freedom.

And he wants to build the wall where?

There needs to be space for Karl Rove in there. It was he who developed the idea of apermanent Republican majority. Its his playbook that Mitch is following so successfully.

ETA: I mostly included the link as an introduction to Rove’s tactics, but reading it fully its amazing how prescient it given it was written 9 years before Trump’s election.

That’s true. But AIUI, the impeachment managers (equivalent to the prosecuting attorney team, again, AIUI) are HoR members.

It’s also relevant to note that the articles of impeachment were voted on in the HoR on December 19, 1998. Gingrich relinquished his seat on January 3, 1999. So he would have been part of that vote.

And as a history professor, it seems unlikely (at least to me) that he would have been asked to be one of the impeachment managers even if he had retained his seat (and gavel).

Fun little anecdote: On Sunday, November 8, 1998, Harry Shearer opened his NPR radio program Le Show with the announcement (to the best of my recollection): Ladies and gentlemen, history was made in Washington this past week when Newt Gingrich impeached HIMSELF.

What it lacked in correctness about what “impeachment” means, it more than made up for in delighted guffaws from me.

I mean, a simple bit of wiki research would help here. As I said earlier, the House members who worked on the impeachment trial were the Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee:

He had already bailed and gone home. The vote (in a lame duck session, including by members who had already been voted out of office for saying they’d do it) was held without a functioning Speaker.

Heineken International and Sun Maid Raisins have withdrawn their sponsorships from the Fresno Grizzlies after the Grizzlies ran a video including AOC among American enemies. Remember, this is Fresno. Sun Maid Raisins are a BIG deal in Fresno.

Florida State Rep. Mike Hill (R-Pensacola) jokes about filing a bill to execute gay people:

“Awww come on! We was just joking around! Right boys? You libtards are so sensitive-like”

<punches person hard in the arm>

This is the Republican Party. A party of high school bullies and cowards.
