Stupid Republican idea of the day

**

He is himself a graduate of Lipscomb University. He probably would reply that Christian colleges don’t count as higher education – which would be hard to dispute.

How perceptive and observant of you!

That’s exactly what one of them did!

So the Highlander duels on the South lawn are off, then?

Of course, they sent a note to the Democrats: “Hey, guys, we really should carry on with business as usual or the terrorists have won. So, tomorrow we’re going to consider overriding the Governor’s veto; stand with us in solidarity as we consider the question!”

Sadly, I am also a graduate of Lipscomb. Fortunately, I got better!

From that link, the gospel according to Paula:

…blahblahblah…

My emphasis.

Perimeters, Paula. If you’re going to rant, at least use the right words.

Note:

Ahem. That would be me.

I have never heard of that usage of *parameter *until this post. But I work in IT, where the use of the word *parameter *is very common (we don’t care much about perimeters).

Who the hell “walks around” a parameter?
Silly question; an illiterate, obviously.

Obama giving the Iranians their own money back was a huge Republican scandal, but Trump gifting the Iranians money if they are willing to come back the the deal brokered by the Obama administration that he is the one who canceled is just fine.

Of course this is a genius move! Just like when you take the trade agreement acronym NAFTA, swap out some letters and rebrand it as USMCA. So much better now! :smack:

Or even sane, but we should probably give up on anyone connected to Trump saying anything that fits that description.

Do I really have to say it? IOWRDI

I think someone, somewhere, was thinking of perimeters and ramparts and the two words merged on the way out of their mouth and parameter was the closest real word they could get to the result so, you know, they went with it.

And then everyone else did because it sounded almost right and somewhere, Mrs. Malaprop is a very happy lady.

What she probably meant was this:
Real health/sex education classes commonly demonstrate how to properly put on a condom* by putting it on a banana in front of the class. But I’ve never heard of that earlier than 8th or 9th grade. Seems like physical development would make it rather pointless for 8-year-olds.

And a banana is a fruit, not a vegetable. Though I suppose you could use a carrot, or a cucumber, or an ear of corn.

*Apparently, studies have shown that many teenagers don’t know how to do this effectively. (That seems to be confirmed by teenage pregnancy rates.)

That is just a tad bit overly prescriptivist. “Vegetable” tends to get used very broadly to mean “non-processed plant-based edible” – food that is not animal-derived. Tomatoes are sometimes/often called a vegetable when they are very clearly a fruit. Peppers are treated similarly. What is zucchini? I most often hear that called a vegetable when it is clearly not. Or corn, which is a grain, but is often also presented as a vegetable.

Perhaps the usage is mean to be anthropomorphistically evocative in a slangy sort of way: a vegetable has highly limited mental function, while the idea of inserting a fruit into one’s body, well, uh.

Fox News’s Stuart Varney running an attack on Elizabeth Warren that sounds like he should be campaigning for her.

You know, right up until now I’d thought that Trudeau had done a good job holding the line on the New NAFTA, but now I’m pissed. If we’d just threatened to make us some nukes we’d have scored an easy $15Billion!

Texas state legislator Briscoe Cain just threatened to shoot Beto O’Rourke.

It’s already been deleted from the thread in your link. Anybody got a screenshot?

What else would you expect from the GOP?? Okay, he should’ve posted a pic with his comment holding gun and buybull. So I guess he disappointed his base.
