Nah, I think he’s referring to the stance of the bill’s opponents, mentioned further down in the article I linked to, that shutting down abortion clinics “endangers women’s health” (which, of course, it does, because many abortions are medically necessary to avoid life- or health-threatening complications of pregnancy).
I think Bryant thinks that his point is something along the lines of “How can you demon libruls act all upset about the lack of access to abortions endangering women, when you’re perfectly fine with the fact that abortion itself KILLS CHILDREN?!!??? Huh? Huh? Hypocrites!! Ha-ha, I’ve run rings around you logically!”
I agree this second quote makes the headline valid. But the headline should be validated by the article’s own contents and, though I seem to be in a minority, I still see that as a leap.
(In any event I agree Bryant’s claim was stupid and nauseating.)
His basic error is in either not understanding the other view, or in deliberately mischaracterizing it. Essentially it boils down to - he is either stupid or lying.
Those who I know who are pro-choice are very clear:
Abortion should be safe, accessible, and rare. Unwanted pregnancies should be reduced so that abortions are used only in extreme cases.
Abortion should not be used as birth control; contraception should be made more available. Education about how babies are made and how contraception is used should be commonplace.
How does Bryant get from here to "Democrats (have) one mission in life: “to abort children.”??? Stupidity or lying.
The headline isn’t invalidated by the article’s own content, which is what matters. The fact that you can’t tell whether he said “left” or “abortion people” from the article is sloppy reporting, not misleading reporting.
And here I thought it would be really hard to top proudly not knowing the name of the President of Ubeki-beki-beki-stan-stan ; but being unaware that the country’s been split into Ubeki-beki-beki and Stan-stan for 20 years takes it up a notch.
Reminds me of a joke I once heard at an open mike night. A female comedian told about a conversation she had with a stranger about her being gay (paraphrasing):
He: How do you know you’re not straight? Maybe you just have never been fucked with a decent cock.
She: How do you know you’re not gay? Maybe you just have never been fucked with a decent cock.
To be fair, although I have nothing but contempt for this bubble-headed shock jock’s remark, it is not completely clear to me that it counts as a Republican stupid idea per se.
The radio show on which the remark was aired, something called “Rover’s Morning Glory”, is a so-called “hot-talk/comedy” show that apparently achieved fame as a regional replacement for the Howard Stern show, not exactly a bastion of Republicanism.
I know nothing about the general political viewpoint of either the show or the announcer Dom “Dumbass” Dieter in particular, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it turned out that they were in fact Republicans. But AFAICT idiot radio shock jocks don’t need to be Republican in order to have the kind of mentality that finds the idea of a middle-aged man’s friend raping his teen daughter in order to “screw her straight” to be a hilarious joke.
