Stupid Republican idea of the day

iYOU CAN’T LIE YOUR A BRITHER THERE ARE PALM TREES IN HAWAIIAN HOSPITALS.

Yes, but are there shews under the bed?

Shorn?

Ummm, yes.

I’m not talking about the Birther Idiots. I’m speaking of Mr. and Mrs. Average (who, I’m afraid, are not too intelligent) who just pick up on a few soundbites they can remember. They don’t even have to “believe” the birthers, just believe there’s a potential problem.

My cite? The 2004 election. There were many voters who indicated that they’d change their preference away from Kerry simply because they’d become vaguely aware of questions about his military record.

Love this! Am occasionally so afflicted as well

Yeah, we seem to have had quite a little outbreak of it a few posts ago. All the victims are doing as well as can be expected and fortunately it doesn’t seem to have spread.

And if so, are they really big ones?

(Ack! I’m old!)

Your cite is dumb. Kerry was a new, unknown candidate to most of the electorate. Obama has been through a Presidential election cycle and has been president four 3+ years.

And I’m so old, I knew what you were referring to before I clicked the link.

 :frowning:

I don’t think the point was that people would actually believe things or pay close attention to it, but that a continual stream of disparaging lies will have an effect beyond merely reinforcing the choices of those who wouldn’t vote for him anyway.

You may recall the announcement a few days ago that a group of Republicans were preparing to run a multi-million dollar series of race-baiting ads attacking Obama and calling him a “metrosexual black Abe Lincoln”.

Public reaction to this idea has gone about as well as you could expect.

What, you might ask, is RNC Chairman Reince Priebus’ reaction to this backlash?

Obama made us do it.

I don’t remember what I said, but I stand by it, whatever it was.

It could be worse. Consider the case of this guy in Australia.

His namesake weeps:
especially since in the end this is not a scientific survey. It’s a random survey.
That’s my congressman. :smack:

He’s not a Republican, but he could have been if it weren’t for that citizenship thing.

Iowa’s GOP platform has gone not only fullbirther, but full derp ahead.

ACORN, Agenda 21, removal of several Government Departments, including Agriculture, which is a bit surprising, considering all the corn subsidies that must flow throw that state.

The corn plant species has a plot for world domination. A mere handful of insane Republicans will not thwart its plan.

Regrettable, I am acquainted with some of the people who had a hand in drafting the tentative Iowa GOP platform. A more reactionary band of troglodytes it would be hard to find. To the credit of the drafting committee, however, they have abandon their former opposition to medical pot, the repeal of “Don’t Ask- Don’t Tell” and support of the Gulag at Gitmo.

As a counter balance to this brief dip into rational political thought the outfit is waiving the flag for a “Personhood Amendment” to the US Const., a repeal of all restrictions on hemp horticulture, that all candidates for all offices take a loyalty oath to the state party platform, the impeachment by the state legislature of all trial and appellate judges who have offended the Tea Party in any way, a wholesale house cleaning of the 9th US Cir Ct, and, most importantly, the draft platform “demands” the prohibition of “red light “ and “speed zone” cameras as an impermissible infringement of personal liberty (or in the alternative of the 6th Amend right of confrontation). They also want proof of citizenship for all candidates for public office, including those for which citizenship is not a requirement. The damned thing goes on like that for 40 pages.

As in prior years, the whole thing will be ignored. Basically the state party platform simply provides and opportunity for any number of blow-hards to vent a little hot air. Nobody pays attention. Nobody cares.

You do. And may the Goddess bless you and keep you snug to Her bountiful bosom all the days of your life, amen.
