Modern day cargo cultists.
There is a quite massive, entirely awesome church complex almost directly across the highway from me here in the exurbs of Charlotte created entirely by money donated from people who listen to the prosperity-from-donating-your-money message. Then there is the mansion the guy who runs the thing is building upstate: $5,000,000 worth of it.
I know who prospers, alright.
OH Mistah McCottah… he’s actually my rep. And I’d have to dig pretty deep to find anything I agree with him on.
Rest assured, we already know he’s an idiot who tries to exploit pure BS for political capital. 'Cause lord knows his district in the very heart of the dying auto industry in Michigan cares about nothing more immediately than making sure the Prez apologizes to some cop in Cambridge. There’s a concerted campaign to get him voted out of office next time around - for a while this past election day it looked like it might happen, but he pulled it out at the last minute.
I know there’s a joke in there somewhere… maybe involving his sire?
I wonder if there are people out there who truly can’t tell the difference between “an issue that won’t die” and “an issue that we’re not going to drop.” Probably not if they stick with Fox news.
Did you read the Charlotte Observer series on this guy? Talk about Robin Hood in reverse.
Let us prey.
You know, I give him some credit at least for not acting holier-than-thou while hiking the Appalachian Trail; unlike some members of Congress he’s apparently faithful to his wife. It appears that particular offense is largely limited to Senators though.
One of my favorite cartoons by the late and much-lamented (at least by me) Doug Marlette has one of the characters describing a televangelist doll: you wind it up and it shakes down little old blue-haired ladies for their Social Security checks.
A classic quote from the days of Tammany Hall, a Thomas Nast cartoon.
Well, in fairness to him, at least his victims get some spiritual hope, as opposed to the victims of the lottery, who only get the knowledge that some portion of their money might go to help education.
Should be noted it was a Governor who took a hike along the AT.
Which is probably why Oral Roberts put the hit on him. Accident… phfft.
(Hey, it’s at least as credible as the birther nonsense.)
I don’t know if this has been posted in any threads about Obama’s birth certificate but I think it qualifies as a (mass) stupid republican idea…
A new Kos/Research2000 poll shows that 58% of Republicans polled are either too stupid to understand or too insane to accept the incontrovertible evidence that President Obama was born in the United States. (58 percent of GOP not sure/doubt Obama born in US - POLITICO)
Eh, it’s just another conspiracy theory.
Any evidence thrown at the theory demonstrates that it is, in fact, a true theory as demonstrated by the incredibly believable (yet somehow flawed in a way some yahoo on the Internets can easily spot) evidence produced by the cabal that faked the “evidence”.
That’s the beauty of a completely bullshit theory. It can’t be disproven because anything that proves it is obviously fake. If it’s ignored, it’s because there’s no evidence that can disprove it OR YOU WOULD HAVE ALREADY RELEASED IT YOU RUNNING DOG PAWN OF THE [FILLINTHEBLANKLOUDLYHERE].

Of course it’s a conspiracy theory. It’s not even a good one. The interesting part was supposed to be that 58% of Republicans actually disbelieve he’s a citizen or at least aren’t sure of it. It’s not that some people doubt their president is an American citizen - of course some people are nuts - it’s that literally the majority of Republicans seem to feel that way.
On the other hand, only 22% of voters are currently willing to self-identify as republicans, so it’s 58% of 22% , which is like, what…12% or thereabouts? Still a frightening number, I guess, and not all inclusive since it doesn’t count unaffiliated wingnuts.
Still something the GOP needs to be concerned about and try to put a stop to. They’ve got an uphill battle as it is without having to battle the tag of a majority lunatic party.
HAHAHAAHAHAAA! Put a stop to? Sure! Just throw their entire base under the bus! I don’t think it’s going to happen…there are actually a couple of Republican Congressmembers who cultivate this birther crap publicly, and countless numbers of lower-level party officials who are whipping this up in the counties.
It’s ultimately harmless (to Obama and the Dems, anyway), so I’m not too concerned. But the Republicans have rattlesnakes in both hands and clutched in their mouths, too, and they’re going to get bitten bigtime.
Spoken as if there is as sane GOP to be concerned about anything.
Occam is leaning in the other direction these days.
Unless they’re seeking election in a majority lunatic country, which I am becoming increasingly worried is the case.
THe actually poll responses were
“I agree with whatever Rush thinks”
“I amnot sujre if I agree with what Rush thinks.”
“I do not agree with what Rush thinks.”
