Stupid Republican idea of the day

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the Pennsylvania’s Allegheny County GOP Chair is a second grader.

Hey, got through first grade! Longest three years of his life!

We need a rimshot smilie.

I think I have a new favorite website.

Scott Brown Decries Legally Mandated Voter Registration Effort, Says It’s A Conspiracy To Elect His Opponent

Scotty? Its the law, Scotty. They have to Scotty, because, well, its the law.

Does Brian Kilmeade (FOX) count as a Republican?

[QUOTE=Kilmeade]
“By the way, they would not have a show if it there was no Fox News. Between ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘Colbert Report,’ they don’t even write anything. They just watch TV up until 3 o’clock,” Kilmeade said.

True, Brian. Very, very true.

Aaaauuuuuggggghhhhh! I just can’t stand it! How can people be SO frigging stupid?

Article.

Not only is Constitutional Amendment 2 unconstitutional, it goes against what Jesus Himself said: “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:5-6

Not just completely unAmerican, but also completely unChristian. What is happening to our country? Somebody please tell me this is parody…

There’s no way even the current SCOTUS can let that stand. No. Freaking. Way.

But how will people know how good a christian you are, if you don’t let them see you pray?

And how will you bring others into the light of Jesus if you don’t make them pray too?

I don’t see anything in the text of the amendment which is unconstitutional (the corporate public school prayer bit is questionable). Pointless, certainly.

To offer a tepid defense of my fellow Missouri voters, I note that the amendment was on the ballot in a primary in which the major contests were to pick the Republican challengers to the incumbent Democratic senator and governor. Turnout for the election was 2/3 Republican.

Also, the ballot summary was for shit. It left out the part about the amendment allowing students to opt out of assignments on religious grounds. The ballot summary made the amendment sound like a fairly harmless, if redundant, reaffirmation of the First Amendment, along with a “WTF” requirement that public schools display the Bill of Rights (apparently because too many schools are skipping the BoR in their curricula or something). The ballot summary gives little indication of the full impact of the measure.

One State representative called the amendement a “jobs bill for lawyers” because of the lawsuits sure to be filed based on the misleading summary and the general stupidity of the amendment (http://www.opposingviews.com/i/religion/christianity/expect-lawsuits-missouris-dishonest-amendment-2)

Nor do I. Anyone want to take a look in here and see what in particular is objectionable? This is the meat of the amendment, I don’t think I missed copying anything germane:

I predict that if Mitt wins in November, he’ll change his name to Nehemiah Scudder.

Ah. I see it now:

Dumb, but still not necessarily unconstitutional, and I still don’t see anything resembling what legalsnugs’ article makes the measure out to be.

The student bit allows the evangelists to kill off biology, geology and science classes. The YECs and global climate change deniers will have a field day.

Forget sex education too.

Students are (rpobably) already allowed to “opt out” of assignments that violate their beliefs.
