Stupid Republican idea of the day

For a minute there I thought you had something against teeth.

Fitzgerald’s follow-up may also qualify as stupid:

The only Biblical grounds for divorce is adultery. Either D’Souza is trying to imply that his first wife cheated on him (and who could blame her) or he’s trying to ingeniously and indirectly cite his own adultery as “Biblical grounds for divorce.”

And here I always thought it was a parable about how God is a bit of an ingrate. And a dick, but that we knew before.

Mitt Romney seeks to burnish his defense-policy cred by hiring Tommy Franks as an advisor. I mean, just look at his distinguished resume (presumably stored in one of the binders at Mitt’s fingertips):

[ul]
[li] Deliberately concealed from the American public how in 2001, at Bush White House’s request, he was planning an Iraq invasion – while we were still trying to topple the Taliban and find Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan.[/li][li] Lost track of bin Laden at Tora Bora in late 2001, then claimed he hadn’t, then was proven wrong.[/li][li] Perpetuated the bogus “weapons of mass destruction” myth about Iraq.[/li][li] Ignored warnings from his CENTCOM predecessor that Iraq wouldn’t be a walk in the park, and disregarded an earlier series of US war games, titled Desert Crossing, that predicted many of the difficulties of an Iraq occupation.[/li][li] Completely failed to plan for any post-conflict cleanup after the predicted fall of Saddam Hussein. “You pay attention to the day after,” he reportedly told the administration, “I’ll pay attention to the day of.”…[/li][li] Authored one of the most nakedly self-serving, embarrassingly written military memoirs of all time. (“Rumsfeld fixed me in his thoughtful blue gaze.”)[/li][/ul]
(I especially love that last parenthetical comment. What, is this memoir daddy porn for families with two daddies? :dubious: )

More Republican abortion stupidity: IL Congressman Joe Walsh says abortions are never necessary to save the life of the mother. “With modern technology and science, you can’t find one instance” of a pregnant woman’s life being at risk, he told reporters after the debate.

Again, guys: ectopic pregnancy. :dubious:

Paul Ryan’s visit to the soup kitchen last week is apparently costing them donors, after the soup kitchen basically said they were a non-political organization and wouldn’t have allowed the visit if they’d known about it in advance.

In the spirit of giving, Republican donors are now venting their wrath by withdrawing their financial support. From a soup kitchen. Even though the organization did nothing more than say that they had not given Ryan permission to stage the photo-op.

I guess I could editorialize about people who punish a charitable organization that feeds the hungry for their candidate’s gaffe but really, is there any need?

Scott Walker starts an economic development agency and appoints a political crony. Crony loses track of $69 million. Wisconsin’s open for business. Monkey business, apparently.

All of these can lead to maternal death:
[ul]
[li]Cholestasis of Pregnancy (a common liver disease that only happens in pregnancy)[/li][li]Hyperemesis Gravidarum[/li][li]Molar Pregnancy[/li][li]Toxoplasmosis[/li][li]Listeria (pregnant women are 20 times more likely to become infected than non-pregnant healthy adults)[/li][li]HELLP Syndrome (Hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells), Elevated liver enzymes, Low platelets counts (platelets help the blood clot))[/li][li]Pre-eclampsia[/li][li]Eclampsia (convulsions, coma during pregnancy or labor, high risk of death)[/li][li]Embolism[/li][li]Mitral valve stenosis[/li][li]Ectopic pregnancy[/li][li]Hemorrhage[/li][li]Increased intracranial pressure, brainstem infarction[/li][li]Circulatory collapse[/li][li]Heart attack[/li][li]Stroke[/li][/ul]
My cousin suffered an amniotic fluid embolism during the routine delivery of her son at full term. The mortality rate for this occurrence is upwards of 80 percent. We’re one of the few lucky families who didn’t lose the mother, but she spent over a week in a coma and suffers from (thankfully mild) brain damage that has affected her speech and mobility.

Because that risk is not only real, but entirely unpredictable, any woman who feels she doesn’t want to put her life at that risk should be legally allowed to eliminate the threat that’s causing it.

In Republican circles that’s called Stand Your Ground.

Technically, I think I’d metaphorize it more as a kind of biological Castle Doctrine.

That’s good, too.

Either way, even if they want to call it a “life,” if it’s threatening mine, I should have the legal right to take it.

Billy Graham followup; days after determining that Mormonism is no longer a cult, he’s now running “non-partisan” full-page ads in several newspapers, urging people to vote for a good, Christian candidate who supports Israel and is against abortion and gay marriage.

Whatever good will the good Reverend earned from liberal Christians over the course of six decades of ministry, he appears to be intent on spending his final years pissing it all away.

You act like that wasn’t Ryan’s plan all along. A non-partisan charity that just wants to help people? That’s almost as bad as a woman ending her life-threatening, doomed pregnancy!

It’s high time these sinners were exposed as less than real loyal Republicans! Shut them down and build a good conservative church in their place, amirite?

Is the fetus breaking into your house in an attempt to steal you gun collection? Because that would sell it.

According to the ultrasound, the fetus looked like it was wearing a hoodie. Can’t take chances, ya know.

Well, you know what they say: You can’t take it with you.

But what does he think about Romney?

The Reverend does have Parkinson’s, which may have impaired his cognitive abilities (it sure as hell did to my uncle who later died from the disease :frowning: ). It would not surprise me if there are other pronouncements that are *not * seeing the light of day.

Oh, great. Now we’ll have all the anti-circumcision folks raising hell in this thread.
