Stupid Republican idea of the day

Okay, done. Now what?

Did you bring pie?

In case anybody was still convinced that the Catholic leaders were just looking out for religious freedom, bishops are again opposing a compromise by the Obama Administration that exempts companies from having to pay for insurance that may be used by women for contraception.

We all know that the Catholics were simply blowing smoke up our asses about religious tolerance and freedom. That was the hook. Of course their real reason was to simply make contraception as difficult and rare to get as possible. And in case anybody thinks this isn’t a Stupid Republican idea:

Going on Fox to denounce food stamps is like throwing meat to wolves. And WTF is a Catholic doing denouncing things that help the poor and needy? I didn’t realize Catholics were against feeding the poor now. I guess all that little boy raping is really hitting the coffers and they don’t have any more money to keep open hospitals and soup kitchens

The bill’s concluding lines are “This is the law. Are we not men?”

We’re pinheads now
We are not whole
We’re pinheads all
Repub’ homo*

Here’s a clause that caught my eye:
… (c) The State of Mississippi shall not punish the crime of sexual assault with the death penalty, and neither shall persons conceived through a sexual assault be punished with the loss of his or her life.
It struck me as odd that the crimes of rape and abortion are mentioned in the same sentence. It appears that a comparison is being made: since rapists are not subject to capital punishment, neither should be the fetus.

BTW … I’m still waiting for a parodist legislator to point out that a haploid ovum has almost all the structure of a full zygote (except 23 molecules of DNA) and that a woman is guilty of manslaughter whenever she allows that ovum to die rather than seeking insemination. In fact, rape, far from being a criminal act may be a life-saving gift.

Parodist shmarodist. Way to give 'em fucking ideas. Thanks.

Won’t be parody, and it will only apply to ova, not to sperm, because Republicans, that’s why.

Proposed anti-evolution Missouri bill redefines “hypothesis” and requires students to learn about “destiny” in science classes

Trouble with Mother Jones isn’t their reporting, they are cracker-jack on investigative reporting. Its just that when I read it I have one of two reactions, either I get all fired up to push for change, or I want to crawl under the porch with the dog and drink a big bottle of cheap Mexican tequila.

Can’t somebody just stand up and say “hey, waitaminnit…companies don’t have religious principles. People do. But companies don’t go to church. Companies don’t go to heaven when they die. So how can a company have religious objections to providing insurance coverage?”

Companies are people, my friend

Soylent Green is people.

Apparently, Germany gets more sun than the U.S.

Ahh, Fox News. Never let the facts stand in the way of a good, solid, stupid opinion.

So that’s what Ross Perot meant when he talked about the giant sucking sound!

No, that is nun work and is why people like nuns better than priests and some of the laity think they should remove their orders from under Rome’s thumb and organize a less hate-filled and sexist Catholic Church. I believe many present and former Roman Catholics would follow.

No, the bitches are as bad as the bastards. The whole set up is rotten to the core. Don’t let the occasional good ones fool you.

I meant the American nuns who work to help the poor, not some Irish psychos. You are also painting the reasonable and humane majority with the same brush as a very strange minority. Yes, the system is rotten to the core, but you should not write off the good works of good people; you should encourage them to get out and continue their vocations without having to answer to the creepy bishops.

Then you should inform yourself about the Duplessis orphans among other cases. You will see that it is not only Irish psycho nuns, but also Quebec ones and I suspect from elsewhere also (I remember reading about similar stuff happening in Spain and other mainly Catholic countries). It is a lot more common than you think.
