Stupid Republican idea of the day

You, again, are tarring the normal with the same brush as the exceptional. Yes, I had my own run-ins with nuns as a kid, but I am not so blinded by it to ignore that the MAJORITY of nuns are doing their, and my, interpretation of what Jesus asked from all of us:

But this thread is about stupid Republican ideas, not stupid Catholic ideas. There is some overlap, but stupid Catholic ideas from outside the US shouldn’t count, and every nun I’ve known in adulthood was a solid liberal Democrat.

Agreed, this is not the place and time to settle this disagreement.

Using Roget’s Thesaurus as my source, I think FoxNews is spot on here. Sunlight –> Brightness –> Intelligence.

During this “research” I was surprised to discover that gullible is missing from Webster’s Dictionary!

In another SDMB thread we learn about a Homeowner’s Association which challenged a homeowner whose OBAMA sign was 4 inches larger than regulation, and sued the Homeowner even after he cut the sign to be in compliance; the Homeowner’s Assn lost its lawsuit after running up $400,000 (!) in legal fees. (Admittedly, the newspaper article doesn’t state any party affiliation for the anti-Obama sign Association.)

Yeah, I don’t necessarily believe it was entirely a political thing. HOAs tend to attract petty dictators like very few organizations.

$400 large? Can we find out who signed the check, I’d like to send a message of condolence and comfort. Haven’t laughed so hard since they shot Old Yeller!

Your link didn’t work for me, but this one does. I don’t really see how that qualifies as an SRIOTD in any event.

Actually, the residents sued the HOA for stuff like voting themselves the power to financially punish residents for non-compliance with their bullshit rules, and holding secret meetings to decide on HOA issues without pesky dissent. The couple who sued them buried them in court, won on all counts, and the HOA got stuck with the court and legal fees of both sides.

Actually, I agree with you. This is about a petty tyranny on a local level, not about partisan ideology.

Oh, it gets better and better! Were they executed as well?

Earlier I pointed out the stupidity of Eric Cantor wanting to involve the GOP in ‘reforming education’. Let’s look at some of the details of what we can expect from such an effort, shall we?

ALEC Model Bill Behind Push To Require Climate Denial Instruction In Schools

That is from the ALEC model bill. Look at some of the language from HR 1674, the version that recently passed in Oklahoma:

Yup, physics, evolution and climate change are Very Controversial, and science class is no place to challenge the opinions of students who have never studied the subjects

Click the link to read about how a sponsor of another anti-science bill in Oklahoma is explicitly motivated by an anti-evolution agenda!

Sorry, pubbies. You people mostly vote for these guys because they succeed in keeping you ignorant. Hopefully someday you will be able to see that they actively promote ignorance. ‘Freedom from facts’ isn’t really freedom you know. It is just ignorance by another name.

Today on ABC, GOP congressman and Derplahoman Tom Cole attempted to push the latest Republican talking point that the upcoming sequester cuts were Obama’s idea and that he’s responsible for him.

The wind was taken out of his sails somewhat when his fellow guest, Keith Ellison, reminded Cole that he himself voted yes on the bill to establish the sequester.

I wish to FSM that Ellison were my representative.

Lindsey “Linda” Graham is going to block the two latest nominations because he doesn’t feel the questions about Benghazi have been answered to his satisfaction. Grandstanding douchebag.

The Republicans in the Senate are planning to filibuster the Consumer Protection Agency out of existence, despite the desperate need for the agency to provide oversight on banks and the like. Unfortunately, the agency also has oversight of lobbyists, hence the right’s desperate attempt to kill it. These people are thereby unapologetically in the pay of said lobbyists, regardless of how they try to justify this action.

Getting burned for $400,000 to punish someone who put up a pro-Obama sign that was four INCHES larger than their bullshit regs called for is not a Stupid Republican Idea? o0

You’ve never dealt with an HOA, have you? I’m pretty confident in saying that the same thing would have happened with a McCain or Romney sign.

Or, for that matter, a “Guess Who’s 50?” sign.

The only nuns I would support would be ones lead by a sassy Whoopi Goldberg that sing for charity

Been done, sort of.

When there’s no indication that it had anything to do with political ideology, yes. Maybe the HOA board’s panties were bunched because they’re Republicans, but neither the linked stories or the other articles I scanned said anything about that.

The creatures outside looked from Fox News to The Onion, and from Onion to Fox, and from Fox to Onion again; but already it was impossible to say which was which:

Ted Nugent to attend State of the Union Address as guest of Congressman Steve Stockton, R-TX. Ted Nugent Headed To State Of The Union As Guest Of Texas Congressman Steve Stockman | HuffPost Latest News

“I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama,” the congressman said. “After the address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.”

The only good thing about this is that Ted Nugent will have to hear all of Obama’s address, but I doubt his attention span can last the 30 or minutes these addresses tend to last. Nothing says “I love America” like a having a draft-dodging, pedophile, gun-nut on your arm, Steve!
