I looked him up, and this guy should be a superstar. By all accounts, he was a brilliant student, speaker, and debater, editor of the Harvard Law Review, dream legal career, etc.

Now he’s saying that the Harvard Law faculty is riddled with commies who want to overthrow the US government, and demanding answers to questions about Hagel taking money from North Korea, which he just made up.

Why do people like this turn to the dark side?

Because the Republican Derp-Machine™ has been churning out misinformation for so long, that otherwise intelligent people have grown up never knowing anything but that misinformation.

This may be the first story I’ve heard about a Republican plan to expand the franchise:

A Montana Republican state legislator has introduced a bill that would give corporations the right to vote in municipal elections. According to Think Progress, Rep. Steve Lavin (R-Kalispell) has introduced Montana House Bill No. 486, which would grant to “a firm, partnership, company or corporation” that owns property within a district the right to vote as a citizen of that district.

That sounds like something a Democratic lawmaker would do as a stunt to protest the Citizen’s United outcome. Did someone find a principled Republican roaming in the Montana badlands?

Better start watching the skies for portents.

I’m not terribly surprised, given his location. The Flathead Lake area is (IMHO) one of the most beautiful parts of the state; but in recent years it’s become the stomping ground* for a witches’ brew of “patriots,” survivalists, anti-taxers, Posse Comitatus, neo-Nazis who got run out of Hayden Lake, and other assorted right-wing whackadoodles.

A pity, from my POV, because I had been considering retirement there. But I have a feeling I wouldn’t be welcome.

*Figuratively, but some who have protested have been threatened with a more literal interpretation of the term. See here for an (admittedly biased) example.

If true, I’m reassured by this news. Imagine the stupidity necessary to create a world-wide television network costing hundreds of millions of dollars and then sending your (apparently coded?) messages out so everyone in the world can hear them and have a chance to decode and act on them, compared to say, sending out a few emails to people in Detroit. Or maybe just posting your messages on a web page somewhere.

Sorry to back track - internet has been out a few days at the house. Which “world-wide television network …” is being referenced here? Faux or alJazeera? Who is sending these coded messages? - Fox/Rush/Hannity/blonde-bimbo or the mooselem brotherhood?:eek:

Most things would be the same as the Christian theocracy the GOP wants, but in the Sharia one there’s no pork. So yeah, there’s at least one good argument that a Christian theocracy wouldn’t be as bad as an Islam one.
