Stupid Republican idea of the day

I am sure his 16-year-old Granddaughter is just thrilled that Gramps just publically called her a slut. That should make X-mas, not to mention the rest of High School, a real thrill.

He didn’t say she was a slut, only could potentially become one after her parents get their divorce.

“Hey baby - how about your legs go through a trial separation? Aw yeah…”

“What are the possibilities of all these other things surrounding her life that a 16-year-old girl, with hormones raging, can get herself into?”

Well, she could masturbate! ARRRRRRRRHHHHHH, Burn in Hell, you dispicable poster!!! Die, Die, Die!!!

More Teahadist control over vaginas

http://www.wyff4.com/news/columbia-statewide-news/Upstate-moms-fight-South-Carolina-Lay-Midwife-Act/-/9324106/19179856/-/format/rsss_2.0/-/f16w13/-/index.html

A bill sponsored by Rep. Kris Crawford (R).

And they say they hate government control. Ha!

What’s that got to do with vaginas? The state certainly has an interest in regulating professional activity.

It’s vagina interference of the consumer choice variety. A “normal” pregnancy shouldn’t require an obstetrician if the mother is okay with a midwife delivering the baby. You’re just mandating additional expense.

Pretty much every state requires me to see an optometrist when I want glasses, so they can test for glaucoma. It’s just what legislatures do.

Doesn’t make it right.

I’m nowhere near a libertarian, but I don’t doubt that there are a slew of silly regulations and licensing requirements in every state that add inefficiency and increase cost. Every optometrist I’ve seen has been an unreasonable prick about sending my prescription where I want it to go.

Now maybe South Carolina has observed a higher incidence of complications when midwives are employed. Maybe insurance companies push mothers towards a midwife when it’s inappropriate, to save money. If that’s the case, they should go after the insurance companies. Eliminating midwifery is taking a meat cleaver to the problem. Maybe business was slow for the obstetricians.

No, but it doesn’t make it dumb, either.

That’s kind of my point. The fact that it’s posted in this thread suggests that the bill is stupid per se. Maybe it is, but there’s no actual evidence of that in the linked article.

They may have their reasons, but the idea that a mother must have a trained medical specialist on hand for something as natural as childbirth seems a bit much. Obviously if it’s a complicated pregnancy you want the trained professionals on hand, but women should be able to handle garden variety pregnancies on their own terms.

I have no intention of moving to South Carolina, but if I did, I wonder if I would find myself needing to engage the services of an ENT specialist any time I wanted to pick my nose.

I have a hard time getting behind the SC pile on in this case. I think the idea is that a midwife should at least have a OB on call, in case shit gets real.

If my wife and I had used a midwife at home for our fist child, she may not have been able to make it into the hospital.

But if you have to pay for the “supervision” of the obstetrician, then why bother getting a midwife? The whole point of a midwife is that it saves you money.

If you really want to pick your nose you need to talk to a plastic surgeon…

I agree with the comment I’ve highlighted. And I believe most do. I know ours did.

A discussion as to the dangers and benefits of home birthing probably needs to take place on the IMHO board. I did some searching and found this thread which is somewhat on point:

Somewhere in SC, I would bet there is an obstetrician or group of obstetricians pushing this measure in order to protect his/their income stream. It certainly would not be the first time such a move has been made.

I had no idea a woman could get pregnant from being fisted!

I proofread, too!

Texas GOP: Planned Parenthood Is Convincing Teens To Get Pregnant So It Can Perform Their Abortions

Right. That is incredibly twisted. “Planned Parenthood” - the term, not the organization, says that all children should be planned. Desired children, not accidents.

I would wager that each and every PP volunteer would prefer dispensing birth control to performing an abortion. Who wouldn’t?

What a sicko if he believes PP is motivated in that manner.

Texas Republican: Planned Parenthood wants teenagers to have sex and get pregnant, so they’ll have to pay them for abortions.
