Stupid Republican idea of the day

  1. Legislative
  2. Judiciary
  3. Executive
  4. Tea Party

Yup, them’s for fershur.

Just a caution to those who might consider retaliating over Detroit.

In the 1830s’ some Americans from Detroit kept trying to liberate Canada by repeatedly pretending they were Geo. Washington by crossing the river to liberate Canada. The local Canukistanis quickly grew tired of these murderous louts, so on one raid when a few hundred Detroiters crossed the river and went merrily about killing and burning, the local militia killed twenty-seven of them and captured twenty of them, but then was faced with the question of what to do with their prisoners, for the miscreants not prisoners of war, and there were an awful lot of them. Shipping them off to Toronto for prosecution would be a bit of a bother, particularly because they had a tradition of being released/let to escape by the too politically correct authorities, and in any event regular criminal law really didn’t address the problem of them being what all’y’all would now call enemy combatants.

The militia commander took matters into his own hands by selecting five of them and having them **summarily executed without trial for being land pirates, arrrgh, based on their having crossed the Detroit River**on their way the raid. The Canuk militia commander was charged for several murders, and his case made it’s way to England, where Wellington made his support for such a practical solution known, resulting in the militia commander being let off. The fellow later became the first judge in northern Ontario (but I believe was retired before the Rat Portage War broke out – but that is another story).

Everyone’s third-favorite West (behind Adam and Kanye) is at it again:

Allen West calls Obama a ‘spoiled brat child’:

Yes, Allen, we just “gave” Obama all those things out of the goodness of our hearts. We’re very generous like that. You idiot.

[Warning: Link is to that paragon of journalistic excellence, the Washington Times]

As opposed to the honourable A. West, who one presumes *earned *his (former) seat in Congress with the sweat from his brow, the brass from his balls, the air from his head, the sour from his grapes. He built that !

I chuckled hard at “sour from his grapes”.

I love how the company uses what is obviously a Christian symbol (the cross) in place of the letter “t” in their name/logo. Yep, that’s [del]pandering[/del]integrity all right.

No . . . I think any Frenchman will tell you that what they speak in Quebec is not French.

Latest conservative grievance - polls “oversample” Democrats

No, it’s not just you feeling a vague sense of déjà vu. They’re making the exact same argument that “proved” that the polls were skewed against Mitt Romney in 2012 with respect to the polls showing the GOP’s popularity taking a serious hit over the shutdown.

They don’t just suspect, they know it for a fact. America is basically conservative, center-right, and all the serious people know that. Common knowledge. The polls are skewed and the Dems are busing in illegal aliens on election day.

All of us who have any political views tend to overestimate their popularity. It comes from hanging out mostly with like-minded people – “How could X have won?! Nobody I know voted for him!” – and, in this age of hypersegmented media, from getting most of our news and editorials from like-minded sources. But nowadays, for some reason, American RWs take that illusion to purely psychotic levels. They’re not even living on the same planet as the majority, any more, they’re living on a planet where they are the majority.

I know, I know, if only!

Ted Cruz: Obama will ‘start quartering soldiers in people’s homes soon’

Yes, it was hyperbole, but a very stupid hyperbole. What practical reason would any military leader have to do that?

At least he got a supporter to shout
“Tyranny!”

Free cable.

Including the ones nobody even remembers any more, nor has since the 18th Century, when resentment over British conduct in the Revolution was still running high.

I wouldn’t be so hard on Senator Ted Cruz; as a Canadian, he probably has a very limited understanding of the Bill of Rights.

And, yet, even such a damned worthless shitbag as Stephen Harper seems to have a better.

Glen Beck says you should beat your kids.

I’d pull a quote but the article’s so short I’d basically be quoting the whole thing.

The last line.

Does this mean they’re supposed to fight back against their parents as practice?:smiley:

Solidly intelligent theories on raising children seldom survive the first diaper change. For instance, you *think *you know how much you can love another human being. But you have no idea.

America Needs a White Republican President

Like so many other headlines, this one is not from The Onion.
