Not really, more than half of the other attempts were not repeal efforts but defunding, delaying and hamstringing tactics. It amounts to the same.
By that logic there are some BDSM movies that should be swimming in Oscars.
No cite required. Perfectly happy to take your word for it. And you’re probably kind of tied up right now…
How did I miss this revolting development? Don’t forget Yvonne De Carlo’s “Slave Girl” movie that surely must have won an Oscar for “Most Sinuous Writhing In A Slavery-Based Film.” As well as “Captain Kidd and the Slave Girl” which surely must have won for “Most Looney Casting in a Slavish Film” (Eva Gabor played the slavegirl).
I find the idea that rape should be treated differently in the abortion debate absurd, for both sides. Either you support the right to abort in all circumstances, or you support a right for a fetus to live in all circumstances. Pick one. No rape or incest compromises either way.
Just sayin’.
I just knew you’d have something to say on this topic.
You don’t even have to look this stuff up, do ya?
Well, of course there was a time where suggesting a woman had a right to her own body to begin with would have landed you on a bonfire…
Lindsey Graham says that the crisis in the Ukraine all started with Benghazi.
He also called Obama a “weak and indecisive leader”. Remember when the Dixie Chicks said they were ashamed the Bush came from Texas? And they were ostracized and had to deal with death threats and what not? Good times.
I keep wondering what they think we are supposed to do? Get into a war with Russia? Put troops on the ground int he Ukraine? We are going to paying for Iraq and Afghanistan for next century and we are supposed to take on more just so 'the world will respect our authoritah!!!"
They have no clue as to what we should do, they only care about blasting anything the President will do.
Quoted for truth.
I am the author of “The Hottitude of Servitude: Slavegirls on TV and In the Movies” now for sale on Amazon. Therefore I am an authority on the field of how slavegirls should or should not be dressed in movies and on TV shows, primarily because no one else has seen fit to write a book on such a ridiculous topic. Hence … sadly … no, I do not have to look this stuff up. ![]()
Some right-wingers are having a conniption fit because Obama was photographed on the phone, talking to another diplomat about the Ukraine situation, without a jacket and tie and his shirt sleeves rolled up. Someone on another board suggested that he should do his next press conference in a sleeveless undershirt and sweat pants. ![]()
p.s. I’m surprised that he also didn’t blame Obamacare for this.
Well the problem for the Republicans is that the point that gets their followers worked up on the abortion issue is the notion that abortion is murdering a child. If that is so, rape, incest and the life of the mother are thorny issues for them – in the case of life of the mother you are trading one life for another. In the case of rape, you must balance a child being killed vs. a mother being forced to raise the child of her rapist. In the case of incest, you are in the same equation.
Most people like me would be OK with the mother making the decision based on counseling from her doctor about medical issues and whomever SHE chooses to go to for advice on the topic wrt ethics, if she cares to. Because these are tough issues, and the one most affected is the mother.
Anti-choice folks want to impose their ethical values on her, to force her to bring the pregnancy to term in all circumstances. The extreme tough cases rankle them, so when people come along and present palliatives, they jump on them like starving hounds on a pork chop. That’s why all the rape talk, absurd or otherwise.
Your position is curiously binary. Don’t think it would wash with most practical people.
Is it “Ukraine” or “the Ukraine”?
Don’t need to watch the movies, just glance at a handful of titles. Slave this, slave that, slave whoseewhatsit. By Rush’s metric they should be swimming in gold statues.
Not finding it.
Glad to know I’m not the only one who immediately opened a second window to Amazon.
Why was it called “the Ukraine”? The Russian language (and, therefore, probably the Ukrainian language) has no definite article, but any competent translator of Russian to English knows to insert one wherever appropriate in English – therefore, where “ukraine” refers to a specific region rather than to borderlands in general, “the borderland” is a proper translation and just “borderland” is not – so, presumably, the form “the Ukraine” got established not long after English speakers became aware of the Ukraine as a named region.
That was just off the top of my head, though – let’s see what Wiki sez . . . OK, that was more than even a Doper would want to know; but at any rate it does not contradict (nor confirm) my wild/educated guess.
You win! You made me look!
(Doggone, I’d love a copy of such a book, preferably with lots of illustrations… I think Caroline Munro might take up half of the book all by herself…)
