It is not incidental to Ukrainian history that for most of its history it has indeed been The Borderland – between Russia, Poland-Lithuania, and Austria-Hungary, all of which held parts of its territory at different times, and all of which influenced its culture, but to different measures in different regions, e.g., Western Ukraine is mostly Catholic and Eastern Ukraine is mostly Orthodox.
The Hague remains The Hague, BTW. And don’t forget to capitalize the “T.”
Do you base that judgment on historical authenticity, or does it vary with the pulchritude of the actress?
You refer to the ratio of pneumatic concupiscence, also known as the Johansson Index?
He didn’t really say that, did he? God would not be so kind.
Stop me if I wrong, but I think that was about 500 years ago, not 20, right? And it wasn’t right then. Even if it wasn’t Republican saying it.
You mean the part about the bonfire?
I used to love the way she said “Hootersville”(sic).
I don’t know if this really counts as a stupid idea, but Rand Paul is trying to get the Kentucky legislature to “clarify” the state law which forbids candidates from running for two offices at the same time, so that he can run for President and run for his Senate seat again, at the same time.
In this context, clarify apparently means repeal.
Or to cook the law until the solids contained in it form a crust at the top that can be skimmed off.
Well, let’s be fair : if Clinton gets to quibble over the meaning of “is”, then Paul gets to quibble over “at the same time”. Time, what is time, man ? And riddle me this : since Washington D.C. sits in the EST time zone while western Kentucky is in CST, can he really be running for both a local race and a national one at the *same *time ?
Sounds expensive.

No, but there is an entire chapter on the original Star Trek.
A few days old, but found this one via Cracked, and yes, this oil guy is a registered Republican and big contributor.
Actual tweet from a Republican candidate for governor of California:
“History lesson: figures who have stood in favor of gun rights vs. gun control. Which side would you choose? https://twitter.com/electdonnelly/status/440871558920568832/photo/1”
The picture shows Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Gandhi, and MLK being in favor of gun rights.
The rogue’s gallery of villains in favor of gun control comprises Hitler, Stalin, Mao, King George III (!), Kim Jong Il, and Obama.
Are you sure they were not talking about people that were subjected to gun sights?
Three and a half out of five. Dammit, the irony meter isn’t quite pegged yet. Maybe add JFK, John Lennon and Archduke Ferdinand to the list of gun rights advocates next time ?
Well, it’s more like a big bowl of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey… stuff.
