I suspect you are being too optimistic. Given that the christian right is so firmly ensconced in the Republican driver’s seat, and that these fundamentalist zealots have to constantly generate enmity to keep the faithful stirred up, I’ve speculated for some time that their next target of convenience will be Jews. Oh, not the Israelis, not the Zionists, the real chosen people, but those librul agnostic reformed intellectual American and European Jews. Troublemakers. I’m already hearing stirrings of this from various sources out in fundy/evangel land, and fully expect to see this pernicious message take rootwithin the next few years.
In spite of all the rage rhetoric and general shit-slinging, the religionists have taken some serious hits recently. They’ve flat-out lost the SSM/gay rights issue, and their all-out efforts to quell reproductive rights met with only a few limited, mostly local successes before stalling. The war on science and the natural environment is steadily losing ground in the light of cold, hard fact. They have done considerable damage in their assault on public education and civil rights, but even there, they are encountering a great deal of push back. The fact is, the right wing is in serious need of a new hate du jour and a sort of revised anti-semitism might be seen by some as meeting that need. Once that runs its course, one hopes the religious right will finally begin to feed on itself as it has historically done.

Before they get to the Jews, I would expect the RR to double or triple down on the Muslims. After all, even though the Jews are definitely second-class citizens, they are, like Christians, descended from Abraham; Muslims, on the other hand, are 100% non-Abrahamic heathens. Yeah, Muslims seem like a good choice. You get blacks and middle-easterners for the price of one, plus any radical white counter-culture types who convert are a bonus.
