Stupid Republican idea of the day

Bozo the Clown wouldn’t get hits if he started a political talk show or website. That Rush Limbaugh does is a sad commentary on American intellect.

And it is said with a straight face that Limbaugh is a leading opinion-maker for the GOP. :smack: Knowing this, anyone who still supports the GOP deserves only contempt.

A recent study demonstrates an underlying problem of American politics. Right-wingers who talk only to other right-wingers move further to the right. Similarly , a left-wing echo chamber will move leftists further left. (Though I think, almost by definition, progressive thinkers tend to be more open-minded and less likely than rightists to fall into an echo chamber.)

For the Desirable but Impossible Changes that would improve American politics Department: Outlaw political ads, etc.; cancel general elections; turn over elections to a particular group of Americans: those willing to spend time attending broad-spectrum discussions and debates.

*or possibly what you think HE knows

I’m more concerned about the R’s work on sabotaging the nuclear talks with Iran than whether an Israeli of any party addresses Congress. Related, I suppose, but who wants a nuclear exchange anywhere, middle east included.

It is up to the Executive to negotiate with foreign governments, then present the treaty to the Senate, wise old men with no political agendas…

A shot of downtown Wasilla and the view therefrom. Doesn’t seem right, somehow.

So are those the Urals, or the Caucasus?

(I’ve been in Wasilla — briefly, thank Og — and I agree 100%: the “pathetic little twarf” doesn’t deserve its setting.)

I am absolutely stunned.

Wouldn’t have believed that was possible.

They have a Target?

You’d think having a view like that every time you so much as lifted your eyes would instill some kind of sense of awe and introspection at humanity’s place in the world. Apparently not…

Let me guess. That picture was taken in August?

gotta have something to shoot at

Sarah Palin attacks Bill O’Reilly as a “quasi-conservative.”

Doesn’t O’Reilly always proclaim himself an independent anyway?

Doesn’t North Korea call itself “Democratic”?

Yeah, exactly. O’Reilly can now say, “See, I’m a real journalist. I don’t go easy on conservatives.” Palin saying he’s not a real conservative is a win for him.

there is this thing, called a “Constitution”, which says I can do whatever the hell I want to, whenever I want to, and you may just GFY
(Rick Perry: 'We're Moving Right Along' on 2016 Despite Indictment)”]…
He told reporters that he believes he will beat back the indictment, charging that “the prosecution’s case amounts to the criminalization of politics.”

“Every citizen has the right to speak their mind freely without political interference or legal intimidation,” he said. “This continued prosecution flies in the face of that protection and it directly assaults the United States Constitution.”
… and a third thing … hold on …

Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks to right-wing talk show host Dale Jackson: “You should have walked over and made a citizen’s arrest on the college student that Michelle Obama invited to the State of the Union address.

Why didn’t you, Congressman? You were in the room, weren’t you?

Yup, when the internets first came out, I thought, this is great, everybody will have the facts at their fingertips, and right wingnuts will disappear.

What actually happened is that now the guy at work who thinks Obama is a Kenyan crypto-Muslim planning to set up UN internment camps for gun owners, instead of maybe rethinking it after realizing that the other half dozen people in his office think he’s a nut, now has all these websites to go to that make him believe that everybody who doesn’t agree with him is a nut.

Translation: those who have the free time and money to attend such debates. What could go wrong there?

But I will commit the same elitist fallacy, and wish for some kind of knowledge test, covering economics, history, and science at least, with a 75% score as a qualification to vote, and a 90% score as a qualification to run for state or federal office. At least it would be great fun watching the fights over who designs the tests.

Mike Huckabee rebukes the “trashy” Fox News women (and only the women) for swearing (not on-air, just around the office).

“The Huckster” – we so have to get that to stick like tar.

Tar Baby, Tar Baby, tell me true
Who is really the jigaboo?
Is it the white man, the white, talkin’ that jive
Or the black man, the black, tryin’ to stay alive?
You can’t touch a Tar Baby, everybody knows
All dressed up with a bone in his nose
That’s the way my story goes
That’s the way my story goes
