Summer's here and I'm hot and muggy: a topical MMP

Blurf.

Two frakking thirty second duty page, and I finally got home at the time I usually get out of the shower. I’ll be about as useful as tits on a nun at irk today.

To make matter worse, it was a bullshit run.

My sources say not to worry as you can’t spread the rash just by scratching it. You must be exposed to the actual oil from the plant. However, it can take up to a week for the rash to appear, hence, the notion that scratching spreads it. I researched this because my bro lost a weed whacker battle with some poison sumac.

Also, your poke recipe sounds delish!

swampy, you are the most normal southron gay bear I’ve ever met.

Love that garden, taxi. I wonder if I could talk my [del]gardner[/del] husband into tending one???

I like all kinds of pickles, my favorite being the spicey bread and butter ones. I have never had a fried pickle but I would.

I took some Tylenol 3 before bed last night and managed to sleep well until Pug wake-up at 3:30. After that I dozed on the couch. I figured it out. That old woman thinks she is hungry.

I still has a kaff and may only work half a day. We shall see.

Tupug

Speaking as a mom with an adult daughter, I know I probably overreact, but even when she was living in FL, if she traveled, I wanted her to check in with me when she got where she was going and when she got home. Now that she’s living with us, I still like to know what she’s up to. Not to be nosy or controlling, but to know when/whether to expect her for meals, and when to call the police to drag the river for her body…
 Yeah, I know, but I’m a mom. So cut your mom some slack, dagnabbit! :stuck_out_tongue:

What are you using on your silverware? I love me some TarnX - so much easier than polish. But I touch my silver so rarely, I couldn’t tell you if it’s tarnished or not at the moment. I think it’s in the top hutch drawer, to. Or in its own box on one of the lower shelves?? Must check…

**Puggy **- I thought the blister seepage (eewwww!) could spread the poison - is that bogus, too? Sleeping last night was rough - it itched like crazy and I was too tired to get up and look for the calamine. Resting it against cool sheets helped.

<Ralf peeks up, looks around furtively>

Uh… FCM - not to be pushing my nose where it doesn’t belong, but only to pass on a couple of mattressy observations… Feel free to say “shove off, ye perv!” if you like.

Missus Coder and I got a pillow-top mattress a couple of years ago, and you can spot the body divots in that from 2 rooms away. It was comfortable as all getout in the showroom, but now it feels like an astronaut’s space couch. You lie down, and you ain’t moving until the next morning. It’s so good at taking a set that there’s an extra depression by my right knee where one of the furball cats sleeps at night.

We’re real curious about the select comfort mattress, though. Friends swear by them (instead of at them, which is an important distinction). We tried one once (after we got the divot-top mattress, unfortunately) by booking a reservation at a hotel that had them when we were traveling. It was a great mattress, from what I remember. So if you want to give one a real try, look for one if’n you go somewhere soon.

Oh, and for the poison ivy - go to your nearest druggist (besides the kid on the corner selling pot, I mean) and find some Ivarest. I just got over a case of the itchies, and I’m here to say it works pretty good.

**Ralf **- I won’t call you a perv… at least not yet. I need empirical proof. The comments about the divots came from daughter and soon-to-be-ex-SIL - they felt like the divots were confining and uncomfortable. I think she ended up putting an eggcrate topper over the pillowtop. And my husband sleeps on the guest bed occasionally to escape the critters or when he’s having a bad night and doesn’t want to keep me up, and he’s indicated displeasure with the depressions also.

I had a memory foam topper and I really liked it, but a friend who slept on a memory foam mattress said it got really hot because it molded to him so perfectly. Maybe I’ll just get another topper since it’s not as thick as a mattress and it may cushion the discomfort of the old matterss.

And thanks for the suggestion of Ivarest. I’ve never heard of it, but I’m itchy enough to try anything!

I really should shower and dress and get something done, yanno??

So what you’re saying is that I need to dig out my trench coat and flash the camera for my Doper photo album picture? Jeez, youse guys have such strict rules here! :stuck_out_tongue: But when in Rome, be a roman candle, I guess…

Does said trench coat come with pant legs that have elastic just above the knees? Because that’s what all the pervs in my life wear…

OK, for sure now, off to get cleaned up. Quit distracting me, dammit!!!

Psst! Finland! Tomorrow!

Is there any other kind?

<teenaged distain mode set to high>

Yesssss, Mother…:rolleyes::rolleyes:

</distain mode>

It’s Friday; my last day of sleeping at work before a busy weekend. Blessing of the Bikes, Kennywood Park opens, OUTrageous Bingo, maybe - just maybe - starting the final sale of Muvvers house, some more cleaning there. And if I don’t clean all the little bits of dirt and gravel and stuff out of the car I may just run screaming into the night. See me in a few days - I’ll be the one saying Thank God for Mondays!

I have showered, donned appropriate clothing, been to the grocery and back, and made egg salad. One of the things I ran to the grocery for was BBQ sauce. Naturally, I forgot just that. I do have one bottle in the pantry, and I supposed I could try to whip up my own - maybe I’ll do that. The poke is still cookin’ - I don’t expect to be able to pull it apart till after supper.

In addition to the poke BBQ, my sister asked that I bring some local strawberries on Sunday. I’ll need to go get some cash, then wander over to my local strawberry lady and get a couple of quarts. But I’m not hulling them. Nope! I did get some cool whip to top them.

Speaking of which, supper will be snow crab legs. The sign on the display said $4.99, but apparently that sale ended yesterday. However, the nice lady at the register rang them up for me at the sale price when I pointed out that the sign was still up. So I saved $4. Yay!

Well, I guess I can’t avoid it any longer. Gotta get out there and get to work. That’s the downside of a big yard - it’s a pain in the patoot to care for. I need a yard boy. mmmmmmmm, yard boy…

I didn’t sleep last night - at least not significantly. I am completely unble to focus today.

Well I made it safely to CA. Man it is warm here

mr ems was very happy to see me.

I wandered around Target yesterday for over an hour. Entrance fee was $350! I blame the jetlag! I am now trying to sort my house out so that it is less ‘bachelor pad’ and more ‘nice home’.

LibbyCat is currently running laps around the house delicate, graceful and nimble she is not. Give it 5 mins and she will be asleep in a sunny spot.

fcm we bought a TempurPedic bed a couple of years ago and love it.

The rest of today will involve buying a printer, new tennis shoes and going for a pedicure. I really don’t want to go back to work

Welcome home, mmmmmmm! Good luck de-bachelorizing!

I just finished most of what I wanted to do out front today. Dirty and dusty work, but the leaves are raked, the hoses are wound on the hose-winder-thingy, and the grass has been mowed. I still need to do the ditch… if I get motivated enough… The house is smelling pork-a-licious! I think I’m going to try making my own sauce. I found what seems to be a good basic recipe on line - I just need to jazz it up to suit me.

We got our copay bills for the most recent surgery. Of the almost $29K for the hospital, our share was $200. I think that’s fair. The bill for the surgeons was over $22K. Our share is $4.92. I don’t think I’ll whine about paying $400/mo for our coverage.

ems, that needed more winking smilies.
FCM, sorry that the divorce is happening, ands glad it’s amicable.

I will be grateful when the baby reaches self-soothing stage. And when Gnat’s old enough not to ask “What happened?” every time he pours water on himself/drops something/spits food everywhere.

Today would be so much more pleasant if there was a nap involved. :frowning:

Those are amazing, but since I don’t have an outdoor courtyard, I can’t get caught up in wanting those. It’s the big, empty, window-facing wall I have inside that’s calling out for a wall of plants. KT thinks I should just grow ivy up it like an old brick building. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m a little late for the pickle discussion, but I hate all things vinegar. So no pickles for me. (Vinaigrettes may be ok as long as they aren’t overwhelmingly vinegary.)

Glad you got to CA safe and sound and happy, mmmmmmmms.

Work’s been awfully busy for a Firday today.

LiLi, believe it or not, I’m kinda glad they’re divorcing. Honestly, I didn’t think my daughter should have gotten married in the first place, and especially not to this guy. But she was of age and she thought she was in love. She told me when she made the decision and told himshe wanted a divorce, she felt like she’d gotten her life back. So while I do believe marriage *should be *a forever happily ever after, I don’t believe you should stay married just because you’re married. There’s logic in there somewhere.

Poke is shredded and dumped in my thrown together sauce. If it’s any good, I’ll try to remember what I did and add it to the blog. It smells pretty good, but it’ll need to sit overnight, at least. And I got 2 quarts of strawberries for Sunday - they’re not ripe yet where Mom lives.

Daughter is on her way home - guess it’s time to get the water boiling for the crab. I should probably make some sort of vegetable matter, too. Or we could just have strawberries, right?

Most of them aren’t quite outdoor, that’s part of their charm. Many have only cloth coverings, but others are definitely indoors.

Crab legs were meh. But edible, so there’s that. The kitchen is mostly clean, but the BBQ cooker needs to soak - it’s kinda ick. Trash has gone out. Laundry is done, altho I need to pair some socks.

I think I’ll assume the crochet position - I’m closing in on 40 squares, which will give me 2 afghans. Once I finish these afghans, I’m going to take a break and try to spend more time in my studio. Plus knitting dishcloths.

We’re thinking about going to Annapolis for a sailboat show thing - not the big show, but several marinas featuring boats and accessories and stuff. There’s a chance of T-storms tomorrow morning - we’ll have to see how it is when we wake up.

Meanwhile, it’ll be a chill evening…
