What Biggirl said.
After watching the episode, I’m fuzzy on whether or not the Outcasts will vote one of their own back into each Morgan and Drake or if new outside players will be voted in and 3 tribes will be maintained. Anyone know for sure?
It sounded to me like the Outcast tribe will get to vote two of themselves back into the game, one to each original tribe. The person voted back in will be immune at the next TC, so the tribe can’t immediately just boot them back out…they’ll have to vote out “one of their own” before they can turn on the re-assimilated Outcast again.
I’m not sure what this means for the remainder of the game. Basically, they’ll have not voted anyone out this week…both Morgan and Drake voted someone out, and that person will be replaced with an Outcast, leaving both tribes at 5 members. I’m unclear on what future challenges will be like…will they be competing against the Outcasts at every IC from here on out, or was this a one time deal?
And man…did Jeff Probst seem royally pissed that Osten was giving up, or what? Not that I don’t agree with him, since I think the big pussy should have been voted out at day 6…but I love seeing JP all righteous. Oh…and I noticed tonight during some of Osten’s confessionals that he has obvious stretch marks on his pecs and biceps, which leads me to believe that he was juiced up on steroids to get pumped for this show. That makes his apparently weakness a lot more explainable…he didn’t work for those muscles, he grew them artificially.
I’m with Biggirl…wtf was with voting out Shawn instead of Jon? I hate that kid.
And while I’m ranting…I softened towards Andrew after last week’s IC, but I’m right back to hating the arrogant fuck this week. His speech about how the “losers” didn’t deserve to ever set foot on his beach again was absolutely unbelievable. What an asshole. The people who got voted out from his tribe didn’t get voted out because they were weak, they got voted out because he simply didn’t like them…he decided on day 1 that Ryan and Lill were worthless and he weaseled his team into agreeing with him, even while they had a member begging to be let go. There but for the grace of Og goes you, Andrew…if you’d made the wrong friends on day 1, it’d have been you standing on the other side, hoping against hope to get back in the game. Fuck off. Hate.
I understood Jeff to mean that the Outcast tribe would vote one member of their own tribe to join Morgan and one to join Drake.
I don’t know if the Outcast tribe will continue to exist after that, or if they will be done with the game. I predict the latter, but who knows.
I wonder how they will decide who to vote back in? Presumably you can’t vote for yourself and end up with a 6-way tie.
I hope Ryan S gets voted back in, he’s the only one that got voted off without pissing someone off first. Those assholes didn’t give him a chance.
I’ll miss Ostens bumbling antics, he was entertaining.
The only reason I can think of why Shawn got voted off instead of Jon is, King Rupert considers Shawn more of a threat.
I never liked Rupert much, but now he’s scaring me. He’s taking this game way too seriously.
I guess I don’t need spoiler tags since the bootees are already mentioned…
I posted this over at TwoP, but I thought of this after Osten quit and there was no vote.
I was just thinking that someone might be screwed because they didn’t have a vote with the Morgan tribe because Osten gave up.
In previous seasons, if they went to TC and there was a tie and no changed their votes, they went by previous votes against them. The rules state that contestants can’t vote for themselves so Osten would’ve had to vote for someone else. Because they tossed him out without a vote, that’s one vote that could’ve gone against Andrew or Darrah or Ryan O or Tijuana that might come into play later if there’s a tie.
Re: Osten
Biggest. Pussy. Ever.
Rupert’s hollerin’ and carryin’ on was a bit too much. So he got some votes. That’s what the game is about. How would he like it if Trish or Michelle hollered in his face like that?
Not that I’m defending Jon. Oooh, I cannot stand that man!
Osten looked so old and ugly. He should be embarrassed that little bitty Tawanna and Dara were able to outlast his ass.
Cosign on the Andrew “losers” comments and props for Tawanna for thinking the same thing. Why did Lil have no right to be on that beach? Just because she was unpopular? Shuttup, Andrew. Hope you lose next.
The outcasts did have an advantage, though. Especially people who had been out of the game for awhile. Even if they were eating meagerly, they probably weren’t living in the elements or doing labor-intensive work.
Grace, I don’t believe there’s been a tie in the past two seasons or so, and the last tie that they did have wasn’t resolved using the “prior votes against” method.
The last tie that I can remember was when Neleh and Paschal had promised not to vote for each other, and there was a tie between Kathy (or was it Vecepia?) and Neleh. Jeff Probst told them that they had to try to resolve the tie amongst themselves, and if they couldn’t, they would throw the boot up to chance and they would all be at risk, not just the two people who were tied. They couldn’t work it out, and JP had them draw stones from a bag, with the one drawing the oddly colored stone being the boot for that week. Paschal drew the colored stone, so even though he hadn’t been voted for at all, he was sent packing.
I can’t recall the last time they used the prior votes method to break a tie, but I think it was at least 3-4 seasons ago.
That could explain it then. I didn’t watch it the year Vecepia won.
Man, they really don’t like it when someone quits. No vote, the torch gets slammed on the ground, and he didn’t even get a farewell speech. Not that I disagree.
Rupert must be one heck of a troubled teen counselor. He probably scares them all into behaving. I still like him, though.
Looks like this season is going to be one week longer than previous ones. Today’s episode only covered one day, the day that normally would have been the reward challenge. Presumably the next episode will cover up until the next immunity challenge - IOW, the three days that normally would have been one episode will now be too. Maybe they’ll drop that lame-ass mid-season “recap” episode.
man this is very interesting… i’ll read this thread fully when i have time and we’re all going to outlandish speculations…
the new twist = awesome idea.
now time for me to play some diablo2 lol.
Tonight’s episode was the first which I could not wait for it to end. The Tribal Councils dragged on and on. To paraphrase what Elaine said while watching The English Patient: “Just vote already!” Stop showing the contestants’ feeble attempts to wax philosphical and just vote!
For me, the “interviews” with each cast member during TC have always been channel-surfing time. It’s actually painful to watch them try to talk like politicians. Saying a lot while revealing little is a wise move, but only if you’re articulate enough to pull it off without appearing clumsy. Most of them aren’t.
Man, I just hated this episode! The only good that came out of it is that Osten is gone. The man should be ashamed! What’s all this blather about his “temple?” Give me a break!
No matter how the Outkast team members were maintained, they were still better off than the Drakes and the Morgans. And I think the producers knew EXACTLY how the competition would come out. It’s a dirty trick!
(And I, too, cannot understand how that weasel Jon is still alive in this game!)
Any episode that ends with Osten leaving without even being allowed to make a final statement is a damn fine episode. Don’t worry, Osten, I’m sure you can get your steroids from any of the local pharmacies.
I was worried that the Outcasts twist would ruin the game, but it actually seems like a pretty decent idea. For the last couple episodes, Burnett has done a good job of throwing the contestants into situations that promote cross-tribal alliances when the merge comes. The Outcasts idea here virtually guarantees that happening, since you’ve got two returning contestants with hugely questionable loyalties. Good job, producers!
I’m still not sure how I feel about the switch. I was excited at first, but…well, let’s wait and see how it affects the game.
I agree with Jadis about Andrew: whatever slight fondness or respect I had gained for him last week evaporated tonight. Back to his old asshole self. I will laugh and cheer when he takes the walk of shame.
And Osten was just pathetic. Biggest Pussy Ever, indeed. I loved it that he didn’t even get his final words.
One good thing from him though: “bag of apathy.” Survivor band name!
As he stated, Osten did give 110%. Of course, averaged out over the course of the show so far, it comes out to about 8% per day.
Getting rid of Jon also would have made this the best episode ever. But I guess this way we have something to look forward to next week. I can see why they took out Shawn instead; he’s a bigger danger in challenges if they merge and Jon’s winning personality makes him a lesser threat of forming any new alliance.
I didn’t read the spoilers, but based on who got mentioned the most this week, I’d say Burton is one of the returnees. The other is probably Ryan S or Lill. It’ll be interesting to see how the manage the TC with six people voting for only two. How are people going to convinve other people to vote for them when there’s no hope of a future payback?
I didn’t like this episode much either -
-there wasn’t much other than some yelling and the IC. And it seems Morgan got zero camera-time.
-Rupert went overboard and went down a knotch in my mind for the way he was almost attacking Jon. Maybe this is part of his strategy though. But I still like him the best.
-Bringing back the outcasts is not a good idea in my opinion, I really don’t want to see Lill or Trish end up winning - they were voted off, lets keep it that way! I don’t think it’s fair to the others.
I think they picked Shawn because 1) they’ve wanted to vote him off for weeks now and 2) if Jon somehow makes it to the merger Rupert and the girls are betting he’ll be easier to pick off since he seems to be a bit more offensive. It won’t matter really, if Drake goes to IC next week Jon is gone.
One thing I missed. Did all six of the outcasts participate in the challenge or did one sit out to match the other two five member tribes?
Er, “bag of atrophy” I meant to say.
Apparently, even when I’m trying to make fun of him, I’m mentally editing his words to make some sort of sense…
