Survivor 10/30

Andrew and Michelle from this season wear glasses. I can think of a few survivors from previous seasons who also wore glasses. B.B. from season 1 wore glasses. I think they even used them to build their first fire. Elizabeth (season 2) wore glasses. Heidi from last season wore glasses. Ummm…that’s all I can think of right now, but there’s no stipulation about vision. Also, glasses are not considered a luxury item so them can bring them and still have something else.

BTW, what were the luxury items this year? I heard someone say that Osten brought alcohol. Is that correct?

D’oh. Guess I don’t pay attention enough.

  • I missed this episode!* The VCR was set but for some reason taped the wrong channel! I can’t believe it.

Can someone please provide a detailed account for me? It sounds like this was a good one. Did Osten really just quit?

That would be two posts in 2 years! See…I’m more prolific than you thought!

My prediction for next week…I’ll bet Burton gets voted back in, and ends up on Morgan. He knows how to use the speargun. He’s going to catch fish, and they will love him.

Lil will end up in Drake, they’ll keep her over Jon, because she’s helpful and much less grating.

The show opened with the Drakes coming back from last episode’s Tribal Council. Rupert was enraged by the fact that someone had voted against him. Jon admitted it was him and Rupert yelled at him for several minutes. Jon whined a lot about how he did it for the tribe.

Then we went to the Morgan camp the next morning. They all sat around complaining about how hard life was and how hungry they were. Ryan tried to catch a fish but it got away.

Back at the Morgan camp, the ribe recieved their mail but decided to have a snack before going to the challenge. Jon was fixing a coconut for toasting (which people had said they wanted) but Shawn was arguing they didn’t have time and should eat the coconut raw. They got into a screaming match .

The tribes went to the challenge and the six people who had been voted off (Nicole, Skinny Ryan, Lill, Burton, Michelle, and Trish) walked out wearing purple buffs. Jeff said they were there to compete to get back in the game. The challenge was going to be a series of cages. The players had to dig themselves into cages, untie the other players on their tribe, and build a pole to pull keys into their cage.

The “Outcasts” won the challenge. By the rules of the challenge, both the Drakes and the Morgans would have to vote off a member and the Outcasts would vote two of their members back in. Plus the two returned players would automatically be immune in the next tribal council.

Back at the camps, Osten came out of the blue and said he wanted to quit and go home. Because nobody else wanted to be voted off they all told him he was doing the right thing, even though it was apparent they all thought he was a wuss. At the Morgan camp, it was clear that Rupert, Crista, and Sandra’s alliance would choose which of the other two was going to go. They even got together to discuss it while Shawn and Jon stood off in the distance and watched. Sandra suggested it would be funny to make them both argue for their survival. The other two laughed and thought it would be fun. Shawn argued he shoudl stay because Jon was more treacherous. Jon argued he should stay because Shawn never did any work around the camp.

The Morgans went to TC. There was no shade put on the situation about who was allied and whose head was on the block. They voted and Shawn was kicked off. Then the Drakes came for their turn. Again the situation was out in the open. Jeff asked Osten if he really had said he wanted to quit. Osten said yes and tried to make it sound like a good idea. Jeff then asked all the other players if they’d ever quit. They all said variations of “I’d never do it in a million years, but I think it’s a great idea for Osten to do.” Jeff then broke tradition and simply asked all the players one by one if they planned on voting for Osten. When they said yes, he called Osten up put out his torch and told him “go home”.

Then we got a “to be continued next week” for the Outcast tribal council.

 Oops, sorry. I can’t count below 3.

You can get a detailed recap, as well as watch videos and see still images from the episode at the official website.

Just beware the video previews linked there – they are not the same as the ones shown on tv and last week’s link ruined the surprise of the castoffs coming back and competing.

Little Nemo, you’ve mixed up your tribes except in the first two paragraphs. Rupert’s tribe is Drake, Andrew’s is Morgan. It’s not surprising though, I do it all the time too.

Is anybody buying that the Outcasts had “minimum” rations? They looked pretty healthy, clean, and well-rested to me.

I’m sure they had minimum rations, but they didn’t have to worry about food. Morgan and Drake had to worry about food. Morgan especially because they’re horrible fishermen. The Outcasts are guaranteed food so they only had to work on getting back into the game. I’m sure they had a psychological advantage over the survivors still in the game.

There weren’t any luxury items this year, since they had to jump off the boat unawares. Osten had a bottle of booze, but Jeff took it from him.

I am. I heard a radio interview with Lil after the episode she was voted off, and the DJs (Bob & Tom) always make it a point each season to ask what the first thing they ate after getting voted off was. She replied that she wasn’t given much, and her arrangements were pretty sparse. I didn’t think much of it then, but that seems to align pretty much with last night’s episode.

Indeed. “Skinny” Ryan looked downright plump!

Thanks, guys!

Anybody else find the challenge a little bit suspicious? Why is it that when Morgan and Drake are rushing as fast as they can to build their poles that the outcasts, in Jeff’s own words, “take their time to make sure the pole is strong”? They took this extra time, even at the cost of letting Drake have a significant advatage on the first key. The fact that they didn’t rush it like the others makes me think they knew this would be a crucial aspect of the challenge. Maybe they had been told about it beforehand?

Osten revealed himself less capable than either Ryan S or Lil on day 1 when he led the tribe away from the village without spending all the money. What? He thought they’d need some pocket change? Oh, that’s right. He sold his clothes at the village to get more money, so he didn’t even have pockets in which to put the extra cash Jerk.

As pointed out, Shawna wanted out of the Amazon, but the tribe wasn’t letting her quit.
My question is, Does anyone remember BeBe? Survivor 2 or 3, I think. He wanted out and was allowed to quit gracefully via (almost) unanimous vote. Why so hard-on Osten, Jeff?

No. They probably had alot more, and better quality food. Don’t forget much better sleeping conditions. No bugs. No challenges. Plenty of access to showers. Ect. Its completely bogus, and completely unfair. Did you see how fast Burton got that lead. The fact that the IC was 85% physical was another way Burnett rigged the game for the outcasts.

Worst new game mechanic since the purple rock. Sheer idiocy.

I think by being so harsh on Osten, he was also directing it at Andrew and the other Moron tribe members who kept him around instead of Ryan S and Lill. Both of them contributed more to the tribe than Osten did in double the time.

Spoiler on how it will be determined which tribe the returning 2 Outcasts will go to:

The 2 who are voted back in will draw 1 of 2 buffs from a “hat” one for Morgan and one for Drake.

Farmwoman, I may be wrong, but my impression is that people have a problem with Osten wanting to bail out because he’s not sick, he’s just a big fucking crybaby. He’s been whining about wanting to go home since day 5 or so, he’s showed no signs of actual physical weakness or illness, just a continual litany of excuses about why he can’t stay. He’s hungry, he’s uncomfortable, he’s cold, he doesn’t like sand, he doesn’t like water, he doesn’t like bugs, he doesn’t like snakes, he’s afraid of the pelican, if he stays out another day, he’ll catch pneumonia and die…STFU already!

Everyone’s experiencing the same hardships, yet people like Darrah, who is a little slip of a girl, has her head in the game and is willing to suffer for a few weeks for a big payoff. Osten has shown himself to be a spineless loser since the day he set foot on the island, and being voted off wasn’t so much mercy as it was in the case of Shawna, who actually seemed to be physically ill, as it was just total annoyance at his refusal to even try to play the game.

Survivor puts a lot of time and effort into choosing these contestants, and the pool of people who want to be there is huge…to have someone picked who looks like a real contender and find out that he’s a big pussy who starts crying about wanting to go home at the first sign of discomfort really screws up the game for a lot of people. I think that’s why there’s such animosity about Osten’s resignation from the game.
