Survivor 12/4/08

His being so self-righteous when people were laughing about the success of his fake immunity idol kind of bugged me.

Down to six…

Let’s see –

Everybody (except Matt) wants Matt gone as too dominant physically.

Everybody (except Bob) wants Bob gone as too dominant mentally AND too nice.
Everybody want to keep Kenny, but only for a while. He’ll do the dirty work of scheming for you, but you’ve got to get rid of him before F3 or he’ll win on the ‘Machiavelli deserves to win’ ticket.
Everybody wants to keep Crystal – hopeless physically, disliked by most, perfect to have beside you at F3.
I bet Suzie/Sugar/Crystal are all hoping for that as a Final 3.

I really liked the first challenge. Especially when Ken, the gamer, couldn’t put the gears together to save his life while Bob the physics teacher had them done in no time flat. I really hope Bob gets more airtime and parlays this into a “Mr. Wizard” TV show for himself in the future. The guy turned an empty can into a frying pan!

Bob had the good idea of spinning the gears everytime a new one got put in to make sure it always worked.
And I think he knew exactly what movies to make when he saw that sliding puzzle.

Why would Kenny expect Corinne to play the idol anyway? I can only think of a couple of scenarios that went on:

[ol]
[li] If Corinne believes she’s tight with Kenny and Crystal, she wouldn’t play it because she doesn’t need to.[/li][li] Kenny convinces Corrine that either he or Crystal can’t be trusted to vote for Matty. This tells Bob and Corinne that they can’t trust K&C and need to find new allies.[/li][/ol]

I can’t see how Kenny would have thought Corinne would feel the need to play it. It certainly was the worst possible outcome for Kenny. Now neither alliance can trust him.

Unfortunately I don’t see anyway for Bob to make it to the end without winning every IC. Because he is so smart, strong and well liked, it’s pretty much guaranteed that if he’s vulnerable at Tribal, he’s going to get voted out. He’s just too dangerous.
But the good news is that it could be as few as 3 more wins, and to watch them trudging through the mud so slowly, it’s obvious that they have no more muscle to burn.

My Dream Final 3: Matty, Bob, Sugar. But there’s just no way that happens.
I predict: Kenny, Crystal, Suzy, which would make me skip the finale and just watch the reunion show.

I’m thinking it could involve some string and Sugar.

She DOES revel in her evilness just a little too much, doesn’t she? The sad thing is that she really does believe she’s smart and that everyone else is a moron.

That’s not sad – that’s funny as hell.

QFT +1
Only I think I’d skip the reunion show as well, unless somebody here told me it was worth it.

I always skip the reunion show anyway, except for the first 5 minutes when they reveal the winner. I just can’t deal with 3 consecutive hours of ANY television show.

So last night Bob and Corrine come up with a brilliant plan. Except for one giant flaw: It contains its own logical paradox. They have to convince Kenny and Crystal that it’s the real HII, and at the same time convince them that she’s not going to use it that night, and at the same time convince them that they should vote for Matty anyway. Huh?

If Kenny and Crystal believe the first two, then wouldn’t it be smart for them to vote for Corinne and blindside her? On the other hand, if they believe just the first one, but think she’s really going to play it, then wouldn’t it be smart for them to vote for Corinne anyway? If nothing else, it gets rid of the HII, and prevents sowing any distrust in K&C’s remaining alliance, and increases the chance that it (the alliance) will hold together and they can get rid of Corrine at the next vote. Lastly, as Crystal reasoned, if there’s a chance that it’s a fake HII, it would be smart for at least one of K&C to vote for Corinne, to get exactly the result we saw.

So how stupid would K&C have had to have been to fall for that plan? Or did I miss something?

The players on Survivor keep talking about how having the Hidden Immunity Idol makes one so very powerful, but under the current rules (where you have to play it before the votes are revealed), has that ever been borne out? I keep seeing players take that walk of shame with a HII (or two) still in their pocket. The idea of the HII has been good for a couple of laughs when someone “plays” a fake one, but that’s about it.

In order for the thing to actually be useful, you have to have it and you have to know for almost certainty that you’re the target for the night. You have to keep it totally secret, because if the others know you have it, they’ll make sure that you don’t see the vote coming your way. So, if you have to keep it totally secret in order for it to be of any possible use, and on the flipside any suspicion that you have will just cause everyone else to be totally secret about their plans, how can it make you powerful in the game?

Can anyone even lay out a plausible scenario in which a HII could be used for advantage?

Where in the name of Jeff Probst did Bob come up with a collection of beads and drcorations and metal gee-gaws to manufacture not one, but two fake idols? I know he said he picks up stuff like a raven, but how many stray beads are laying around in Gabon?

Yeah, what you said. How the heck does Bob come up with all that junk? A bunch of painted beads, some sort of metal jewelry, lanyard string, etc etc.? I’m almost half convince he smuggled in all that stuff pre-show with the express purpose of making idols, and he spent all his free (or idol, snerk) time before leaving for Africa practicing idol craftsmanship.

I think now the best way to have gotten Kenny and Crystal to vote for Matty would have been to threaten to vote for Kenny. That way if the Idol was real Kenny would go unless those two voted for Matty.

I think the Idol has only been used once successfully since the new rules. Last season Amanda was the odd girl out, but she found a clue on Exile that said the Idol was back at camp. So when she got back she emptied out her bag to show that she didn’t have it. Then she found it before the council and played it that night, saving her.

That’s what I love about the Idol, it’s not an ultimate get out of jail free card, like when Yul had it. He never had to play it because everyone was to scared to vote for him. Now you have to play it at just the right time.

I can’t wait to see how the idol will work out for Sugar. If Bob and Matty go next, then Sugar can play it and automatically be in the final three.

Speaking of which, how come no one has broached the idea of blindsiding Sugar to get rid of her immunity idol, as has happened in past seasons?

Bob and Corrinne don’t know that Sugar found the immunity necklace.

re: the beads/wire/etc - didn’t they get geegaws, paint and whatnots for use in decorating the merged tribal flag?
