Survivor 3/11: "Sorry, I Blew It"

Colby and Ethan thought that they had Lex in their pocket, and assumed Lex would be able to swing Shii Ann. Lex, however, had other plans. He let Colby and Ethan think he was with them, then took Jerri aside and said that now was the time for them to turn things around and boot Colby. Jerri was all on board with that, so the real holdout was Shii Ann. She hates Jerri and wanted Colby instead…but in the end, she went Lex’s way and Colby bought it.

Hey, I thought I was the only one who listened to that show! The phonescams/Survivor updates come on right as I’m driving to school.

Are you in the Chicago area (like me) or is it just being rebroadcast in your area?

Looks like the Mogo Mogo chapter of the He-Man Wimmen-Haters Club took a big blow when Lex decided to go play with the girls. Smart move for the tattooed one; he got rid of rival Colby and he’s now got tentative alliances with everyone.

I wonder if Boston Rob will learn anything from Colby’s disappearance. We watched Rob, Rupert, and Tom party while they let the women work on recruiting Kathy. I wonder if it occurred to any of them that letting three players plot with a future fourth is not the best long-term strategy. Of course Boston Rob has a pimp mentality; he relaxes while his women work for him. It’ll be fun to watch when they turn on him.

I watched the whole show and all I can say is “?”

This show needs two challenges, and it needs something interesting to happen in camp. Tonight’s episode was just boring. Too talky.

me likey talky, see tribal dynamics, watching tribes battle is fun too, but me likey talky and interaction more.

Lex is a powerplayer. Loved him in Africa, he’s even better now. Has a good understanding on bloc forming and friendship building as well as exploiting rivalries. Smart, good at challenges, sneaky, hard working, damn he’s got it all, including a seemingly humble approach (not like Boston Rob).

Did you guys notice something? on the yacht, there were five people celebrating as night fell. Talking, having fun and bonding where Rupert was sleeping and Jenna was no where to be seen. Watching people interact is FUN FUN FUN!!!

Oh and I’m glad Colby got the boot. High and mighty telling people like Shii Ann how to play the game, buh bye loser.

So you don’t respect how Shii Ann plays, huh, Colby? She beat you, didn’t she? Now, I don’t mean just that she outlasted, you; it was her decision that sent you home.

I am enjoying this Survivor so much. Rich is gone. Colby is gone. Sue is gone. Rob C. is gone. If Lex goes soon, this will be closing in on perfect.

Whatever you think of Colby, you’ve got to give him credit for having one of the most gracious farewell speeches. No bitterness or sour grapes.

I disagree completely. The challenges are the least interesting part to me. I love the interpersonal stuff, tribal politics and whatnot. Tonight’s format change threw me, because I was sure they were doing it to make room for some new twist at the end. Turns out they weren’t though, and I find I really like the single challenge format, because it leaves a lot more time to show the political stuff. That’s what the game is really about.

And another good thing tonight: Colby is gone! I liked him well enough last time, though he was never a favorite. But this time I’ve found him really irritating.

Excellent backstabbing by Lex. Way to take advantage of an opportunity (Cathy’s absence). Now Cathy and Shii Ann will pretty much have to join with him. I think a Lex/Cathy/Shii Ann alliance could do some real damage.

I think Lex could possibly take the whole damn thing. I doubt he will go soon because he flying way under everyone’s radar. Nobody perceives him as that much of a threat.

Personally, I will be really happy when Rob is gone. He isplaying much better this time around, but I think people are going to turn on him pretty soon. His arrogance just really grates on me.

Colby got the boot. So, did I call it or did I call it?

Next week should be a real kicker…

First rule of Survivor: Never hook up in Survivor, or you will be voted off post haste.

Colby played OK, he didn’t know he was going to be backstabbed.

Lex played it brilliantly. He went to Jerri and told her it was her or Colby. She thought she had no options and went with Lex and Shii Ann. Lex played Jerri like a dog’s toy bone.

Jerri was a complete idiot (not surprised). She went with her emotions (must… get… revenge… on… Colby!). Jerri, Lex, Shii Ann, and Cathy will get rid of Ethan next. And then guess what, Jerri will be next. Dumb, dumb, dumb. [Alternatively, they might dump Jerri ahead of Ethan figuring he’s a big target that can be dumped any time.]

If Jerri was smart, she would have went to Colby and Ethan and told them about Lex. Then the three could have gotten ridden of Cathy’s closest ally, Shii Ann. Then the three could pick off Lex, then Cathy. By then it’d be time to merge. And so, Jerri didn’t go for the final three of her tribe but settled for the final four in order to spite Colby. What an ass.

Peace.

I don’t think so. Recognizing that Colby was her enemy was an entirely rational decision on Jerri’s part. Colby hates Jerri. Getting rid of him has to be a major goal of hers if she wants to have a chance of winning.

It was smart of Lex to recognize that and play on it, but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t still the best move on Jerri’s part.

That involves an awful lot of maybes, and it assumes that Colby would have trusted anything Jerri said, which he almost certainly would not have. I think she made the right move. In fact, the only move that would have saved her.

Jenna was asleep on the couch next to Rupert. She was mostly covered with pillows, so you could only see a foot and part of an arm, but she was there.

I thought this was one of the more interesting episodes. I never followed Africa, so I don’t know what Lex was like there, but I’m awfully impressed with him this time around.

And, damn it, I still like Rob. He makes me laugh just about every time he’s on camera. “I was on the state champion golf team”…SWING…SPLAT! And the look on his face when he lost the club was hilarious.

Ethan lucked out when he got picked by Mogo Mogo. He’s had his head on the chopping block for weeks now, but keeps managing to squeak by, thanks to his dysfunctional tribemates.

Speaking of which, Jerri and Shii-Ann are both irritating the hell out of me.

I will sum up my thoughts in a simple pair of sentences.

  1. Woohoo go Lex, now even more my favorite.

  2. Boooooo go home Shii Ann, you even more whining sanctimonious bitch.

Yeah, me, too. A few weeks ago it said something about one player being upset that she can’t use her feminine wiles to coast along, and we never saw that, either. I think someone at the paper is just making crap up.

Great show. I watched it at 11:00, finally.
I was kind of surprised when they chose Kathy. I was sure they’d pick Ethan.
I was sooo sure Shii-Ann was going to vote for Jerri, and I was soooo relieved she went with Colby.

Moriah, I can see some sense in your plan (Jerri going back to Colby about Lex’s deception), but as Ferrous said, it would involve a lot of “maybes” and also Colby trusting Jerri. He would probably think she was lying to save her own ass.

Just a few thoughts… at TC, when Jeff was questioning them about why they made their decision, (and perhaps that they made it based on the upcoming merge), I got the impression he was biting his tongue not to say something. Is it possible they won’t merge at 10 players this time? It is kind of dumb to kick out a strong player now, especially if there’s no merge. They say this time around, there’s going to be lots of twists and surprises. Maybe they won’t merge the tribes till much later (or maybe not at all?), and they’ll be sorry they got rid of a strong player like Colby?
Jeff just had that smug look like, “I know something you don’t know!”

Were they really paddling with the wrong side? If so, that’s a hoot. The key to paddling is to keep both sides balanced if you want to go straight. Colby’s team had three strong men and that’s a bad number because you’re off balance out of the gate. I imagine what happened last night is that whichever side the third man was on was pushing too hard and the weaker side couldn’t keep up. Physics demands that the boat will steer towards the weaker side. Once you are off course, the stronger side needs to quit paddling, or back-paddle, until they are back on track. And in the heat of competition that’s very hard to do.

I completely disagree with Shi-Ann’s strategy to vote off Colby now. Traditionally tribes stick together like glue post-merge. The majority team then starts picking off the OTHER tribe one by one, starting with the stronger men. Once the weaker members of the majority team get sick of being used as pawns merely to advance the Elite Three, they can approach the remaining members of the minority tribe to align and advance past the Elite Three. So my strategy would be to keep Ethan and Colby and Lex as long as possible and hope they can keep winning immunity. Because if you have an alpha male on your side post-merge, that’s a good thing. Either:

a) he keeps winning immunity and you ride his coattails. Just follow his lead in picking off the minority tribe one by one until it no longer suits your purpose: OR
b) should the pendulum swing to the other side, you hide behind the huge target painted on your alpha male’s back.

Oh, and may I say in all my shallowness, that Ethan is a babe and I hope he sticks around for awhile. I used to think Colby was hot but Ethan is just a beautiful specimen of a man. Even if he can’t untie a knot.

I think it would be hilarious if they didn’t merge at all. Shii Ann was counting on the merge in her original appearance and it came back to bite her on the ass.

What I didn’t get about Ethan and the knot. Didn’t he just use a machete to chop down the paddles? Was he not allowed to use it to cut the ropes?
