Survivor - 3/4

I agree. On what grounds? That no one wants to see him nekkid!
I think he does it just to be controversial. I think he thinks he can get away with it because… well, the guys can’t say they’re offended, 'cause they’re guys; the girls can’t claim to be offended, 'cause he’s gay, right? I dunno, I’m just rambling.
And why all the “fat” talk? He’s not really that fat. Sure, he’s chunky, but fat?

Whatever. Too bad there wasn’t an IC this week. And I’m rather shocked that two players have quit this time out. Jenna had a damn good reason, but I still can’t get over how offended Sue was. I can’t believe anything would offend her.
I know, I wasn’t there, but still…

Oh, my son saw this, too. (He’s seven). I was washing dishes about 6:30 or 7:00, and he came running in from the living room, screaming that he had the TV Guide Channel on and that they said Sue was going to quit tonight on Survivor. So this was all over, even before the show aired. Yes, he’s seven and completely hooked on Survivor.

Was Sue’s comment to Rupert that she was going to sue Richard for 10 million dollars, aired? I saw Rupert say it after the fact but not Sue … but I missed a 10 minute chunk in the middle with half listening.

It is so funny how editing and what is decided to air affects your impression: “Sweet” Jeri, the evil devious Lex, that bossy judgemental ass Colby, wise Kathy, totally inept Rupert and brilliant Rob … who would have thought those adjectives would ever be associated with those names … but based on this game and not history …

I like that they played thru after the Sue incident – I thought that was cool.

Hmm. So much for my prediction last week that it would turn out to be an anticlimactic teaser.

I don’t know. I don’t think she handled it very well, but I’m not going to criticize her, since I don’t know what was going on in her head. It’s not how I would have handled the situation, that’s for sure.

Not much else happened this week to discuss…

Just to prove myself wrong, I remembered that I wanted to comment on one other thing right as I hit “submit”.

Tom, Rob, Rupert and the others celebrating Sue’s leaving was just stupid. Do they not realize that they’re on TV? Do they not realize how people will react to seeing them cheering this? If nothing else, did they not stop to think someone else in the tribe might be offended? Whew.

Did anyone else notice the footage of Shii Ann eating an orange (during one of her conversations with Colby) BEFORE the Reward Challenge??? Oops. Editing error!

the Good Ol’ American Way of becoming rich.

I think that Shii Ann thing is different. I think she was eating perhaps a lime/lemon and they did have those trees there no? I could be wrong and the editing was done poorly but I believe it was a lime/lemon not an orange.

Nope. It was an orange. Very definitely an orange.

I love Shi Ann. She’s going to be the death of All-American, Perfect-Teeth Colby.

I wish she had actually made a point while Colby lectured her about how playing under the radar is easy. It’s not like anyone picked Colby to do the dirty work…he brought that on himself. Also, he assumed that Shi Ann was being a passive player who wasn’t doing her own planning and scheming. What a dumbass! I really hope Shi Ann is the one who sends him home.

I don’t know what to say about Sue. I would have been skeeved with Rich rubbing his pixelated area on me, but I don’t know that I would have carried it that far. It seems to me that she was looking for an excuse to leave the game. Not saying she wasn’t bothered by it (the tears looked real enough), but I think she blew it up for drama’s sake.

Which is a shame because once again, we’re in a situation where everyone thinks the woman crying sexual harrassment is a lying wench. Remember Ghandia? It makes me wonder how things like this affect the sympathy of men when it comes to sexual harrassment.

I agreed with Alicia: Tom doing his horrible dance was in poor taste. Not only because he’s a nasty old man, but because the reason that Sue left was kinda solemn.

It’s hard to be sympathetic towards Sue. I disliked her and Hatch equally. After her “if you were dying in the street, I wouldn’t give a glass of water…” speech in the first show, it’s too hard to know when she’s being a drama queen. And it is a freakin’ game, btw. A game where she thought nothing of peeing on the raft that everyone was supposed to sit on. Good ridance.

These all-stars are turning out to be all-pussies.

Did anyone else get suspicious that someone might quit when the first challenge didn’t start until about 35 min into the show? I can’t say I was certain, but I sure had an inkling that something was up.

Cobly is a great guy, but he just signed his death warrent. Flying under the radar is one of the best ways to play the game. Whether you like it or not… whether it offends your sense of honor or not… it’s a damn fine way to play this game. I don’t particularly like Shi-Ann as a person, but she’s plenty smart, and I think she just outsmarted him.

I’m glad they started putting up subtitles for much of Tom’s dialogue. I can barely understand him, but I keep thinking of all the folks who aren’t native English speakers watching-- it’d be damn near impossible for them to follow him.

I looked up at the clock at 8:35 and told the group that I was watching with that Sue was going to quit. You just can’t squeeze two challanges and a tribal council into 25 minutes.

I’m going to be watching the CBS early show in the morning. Richard and Sue are supposed to confront each other on the show. Should be interesting.

Rob really really needs to go. I just can’t take his arrogant attitude anymore. Also, I thought that Shi-Ann proved tonight that she has a little more game in her then previously thought. With any luck, Colby is toast. And finally, I lost quite a bit of respect for Tom tonight with that dance. As much as I think Sue may have realized at some point in the night that a lawsuit might be more lucrative than winning the game, and quit for that reason (“see, I was deprived from my chance at a million by Richard”), I still think she deserved the benefit of the doubt and it was a classless display on Tom’s part. Not that it really surprises me.

I’m from England and I cannot understand a word he says. He makes Durruh sound like she’s speaking the Queen’s English. Those subtitles are a godsend.

As for Sue, should she file a lawsuit I think the best she can hope for is a settlement. They were on very small platforms, she was the one in Rich’s way (she could have gone a different way around) so she chose to confront him despite the fact that he was already naked, and by the sounds of it, she’d been taunting him about his meat-n’-two-veg all through the game including right before he joined her on the platform. I’m not saying what he did was ok, far from it, just that she shouldn’t dish it out if she can’t take it.

Jeez, I hate, hate Rob. What an arrogant prick.

Gee Colby, you have no respect for those who play the game differently from you? Well, let’s see. Of those who played the game by attempting to actively manipulate situations to their benefit, only Richard and Brian actually won. Sandra, Jenna, Vecepia, Ethan, and even Tina all won after letting somebody else act as lightning rod as they coasted along doing just enough to stay in the main alliance without being noticed. Hell, even Richard didn’t have to do any manipulating, he just formed his alliance and rode it to the end. This is also the same thing Colby did.

Colby, like many here, seems to be equating “playing the game” with “manipulating the other players.” Everyone on the island is playing the game; some just have a different style. Passive, or at least seemingly passive, until late in the game seems to be overall a more effective strategy than trying to take control early.

Is anybody else developing a serious respect for Lex like me? I wasn’t watching the series for his original apperence, so I didn’t know anything about him , But I am really liking him. He his tough, smart, effective but non-slimy and non-whiny . He is my favorite to win now.

That’s just what I was going to say. Playing the game by being in everyone’s face about it isn’t always the best way to play the game.
I always wonder if they’re all they doing is talking about strategy and alliance ALL the freaking time, as it seems from what we see.
I know all we get is an hour from what they shoot of every three days’ worth - they have to talk about something else some of the time, right?
Being on Survivor would be fun - the survival aspect at least; living on the beach, finding food, competing in challenges - but if all they do is talk about alliances and strategy 24 hours a day, it would drive me up a wall.

I’m in the dubious position of feeling sorry for Richard Hatch. Sue turned a rather innocuous event into a huge drama, hoping, I suppose, to win some of Rich’s cash in a civil trial. Give me a break. If Rich’s winger-wanger was such a big deal, she wouldn’t have signed up AGAIN, knowing full well he’d be asked to come back and that she’d being seeing Mr. Happy on a regular basis. And if the thought of touching his naked crotch was such an emotionally traumatic deal, she shouldn’t have chosen Richard’s beam, pardon the really bad pun. Because, thrusting aside, they WOULD have touched eventually.

If I were on the jury on her lawsuit, I’d award her $.30 so she could call the Jerry Springer show. She belongs right next to the other gutter-class drama queens in America.

That being said, my respect for Kathy grew because she called a spade a spade, instead of being p.c a la Alicia. “But I don’t know what she was going through.” Oh give me a break. We all saw what happened and her reaction hardly fit his crime. If you don’t want to be near naked grunting, belching, farting, obnoxious people, then don’t sign up for Survivor.

Sue and Richard on The Early Show on CBS.
Sue said she considered a lawsuit, but didn’t actually go through with it. She also said that CBS and Mark Burnett were very supportive of her and helped her to deal with it.

Rich said that he didn’t think she would react in such a bad way or he wouldn’t have done what he did. He also said that he felt Sue started with him by trying to go down the same beam as him and by taunting him.

Shii-Ann is the worst player there, and least deserving. She didn’t even make the merge the first time. She runs her mouth, but hasn’t done anything on either version of the show (other then get caught defecting). She is dead weight on any serious challenge and her ridiculous fan girl crush on Hatch and now Helen is absurd. Colby was right, she is just coasting along and letting everyone else do just about everything. Colby was just stupid to say it to her- point it out to the other players then boot her. Don’t warn her you dumb ass. Then again he let Tina fool him out of $900,000, so Colby never was too bright. With Ethan and Lex around methinks Colby may get a surprise. But now they need to cull the useless at challenges, and willing to switch sides Shii-Ann at the first opportunity. She is the least valuable, and least trustworthy member of that team.

Sandra played the game and took alot of attention herself. Jenna had her alliance out in front for most of the game as well, and acted as the spokesperson for it. That’s why she won- the Jury knew that. Ethan was winning lots of challenges and was a known member of the power block. Lex was edited to look like the bad guy, but it was later revealed that he was in fact well liked (something you are seeing here). So none of those players really match the coat-tail riding approach no talent Shii-Ann uses.

V did (IMHO worst winner ever, and the worst season of Survivor for many reasons), but there were some weird jury issues there. She would never win any other survivor- it was a fluke. One that soured alot of people on the show for a while. Tina certainly did. She used Colby all the way to the end, or at least stayed out of his way. Had Colby had a lick of sense (he doesn’t- although going for Hatch early was good), he would have chosen to take the unpopular Keith with him. Thus, the rule about not taking popular or well liked free riding players with you to the Jury- or the final four if you can help it.

Thanks, [bpPundit**. Little to add, other than my disbelief that that raft pissing, foul mouthed, obscenely teeny bikini wearing attention whore, can expect anyone to believe she was such a sensitive little flower.

They sure edit it in a way to show the guys do a hell of a lot more work than the wimmen-folk.

Jenna is proving herself pretty darned useless.

I’m turning into a pretty big Lex fan.

Meanwhile, I’m becoming a Kathy fan, although I didn’t watch the season she was on originally. I thought her comments after the Sue brouhaha were bang-on.

And, is it just me, or does Shii Ann seem to be getting prettier as the season progresses? I don’t know what it is, but she was much more attractive last night (and I found her attractive from the get-go).

Is it just me, or are they using a LOT of rice per meal? It seems that both tribes are chowing down on huge servings compared to any other Survivor series.

However, maybe they know that a merge may be coming up and they usually can’t take anything with them. I dunno, but seeing a coconut bowl full of rice is not the way it’s usually done on Survivor.

Shii-ann is cute alright. Between her personality and pretty face I think she’s one of my favorite female Survivors.

Finally, some speculation regarding the preview for next week.

Any guesses on the new “twist”? If I had to guess I would say it’s another member swap, just to mix up the alliances again.
