Does anyone think Lex got a few more tattoos since last time? It’s hard to tell, but it seems like there’s more ink this time around.
He’s got a great strategy going right now, though. Be the fish-catcher, form an alliance with the girls, and get rid of Colby and Ethan. I’m not sure how he saves his own ass after that, but sometimes you can’t think too far ahead in this game-- you gotta stay flexible.
That would be Amber. Leave her alone, though. She’s mine!!
I thought Tom’s dance was hilarious. I cut him a break since it’s not like he came out and started celebrating on his own, he was goaded into it by Rob like ‘come on, you know you’re happy she’s gone!’ Tom and Sue have had a rivalry all along but I got the feeling it was never really serious, just a clash of personalities. Rob may have said he had to give her the benefit of the doubt, but he was the one singing “Ding dong, the witch is gone.”
Plus I feel like Sue really did overreact here. All I can say is, never, ever go to a dance club Sue - you will be touched and rubbed on more in one song than you were by Rich (ok, maybe not her but you get the idea.) I am positive Rich was just being stupid and wasn’t trying to assault her. Yes, it was jerkish on his part but they have had a rivalry since the first show and I think he was just going on that.
I could understand her being upset and even yelling about it but to quit? Especially now that Rich has been voted out and she won’t have to deal with him at all - come on. I don’t think what he did was ok but she did not handle it well. I think it speaks volumes that everyone who witnessed it, including the women, were all suprised at how upset she was.
Well… it is a decent strategy. But I wonder if anyone will comment about how suspicious it is that he didn’t do any fish catching until now… and look how good he did, too. If I were on that island, I’d suddenly be a lot more skeptical about him.
Rich: I think he meant to bother Sue, but not to “harrass” her. He kept his hands very carefully up in the air. Personally, I think he should have kept his pixilated bits to himself and Sue should have - whoopsie! - hip checked him off the beam when he thrust at her. Was it malicious? Nope. Was it really bad judgment? Yeppers.
Sue: Whoa. When I have a meltdown like that, I ask for a stronger presciption. Yes it was nasty but come on. She built it up into a much bigger deal than it was (which is very easy to do). She should have tried to talk it out instead of just dwelling on it for 24 hours. She needed help and did the right thing by leaving. But filing against the producers? It’s a game, and although it was unpleasant, the contact was brief. Not a big deal (HA Ha!). And that bit about only having 1 partner for 20 years and it upsetting her husband. What’s up with that? If you didn’t grab the dingaling then why would he be mad at you?
Is it just me, or does **Boston Rob ** sound like he’s trying to imitate Sammy Davis, Jr and John Wayne at the same time?
And did I see **Colby ** in a commercial for a shaving implement with far too many blades?
I didn’t see the Early Show interview but it sounds like Sue’s had a chance to hash it out with Hatch and calmed down somewhat. She decided against a lawsuit too, as that would also “be emotionally draining”.
I don’t see it as an issue. Up until that point, Hatch had been catching more than enough fish for everyone. What’s the point in everyone wasting energy to catch too many fish? If he had waited until after the merge, or after a long period of no food, then yes, I’d be suspicious.
Well, sure, food producer. But they didn’t know he was a good fisherman when they ditched Hatch, you know? So, first, he’s using it to gain an advantage that hasn’t shown it can necessarily hold up, and second, he seemed to hide it until it was in his favor. That’d make me anxious, that’s all.
erislover: I think you’re over analysing the stituation. Although I wouldn’t go so far as to say Lex has “immunity” due to his fish catching expertise. Ethan is a very athletic guy, and I’d bet he could catch fish if they all decided to get rid of Lex. But there’s no reason to. Lex is laying low and letting Colby be the target. Then he goes after Ethan as the outsider, and hope he makes it to the merge.
But I’m with those who are predicting a mix-up of the tribe members next week. This show is going to throw lots of curve balls, and that’s the least of what these guys should expect. They may even get split into boy/girl teams for awhile.
Not if previous fishing attempts are any indication. Ethan proved to be an abysmal fisherman during his time with Saboga. It was even an emphasized plot point.
Assuming the facts as stated – that Rich rubbed his naughty bits against Sue – would that be more than cause for a civil action? Is that criminal; ie, sexual assault?
I have precious little sympathy for Sue, but I don’t want to start blaming the victim. If its a crime, its a crime – whether or not they’re on a game show in Panama.
Speaking of the whole fishing thing, I’m surprised so many people think that being a food provider is going to be the key to survival. Rupert, Ethan, Lex, and I think one or two others were all scheming to take that role. But come on. Everyone’s played the game before. They all know how to survive, and more importantly, they all know exactly what you’re trying to do. No one’s going to keep anyone around this time just because they can fish.
True. Also, some people (notably Rob, who I too am chagrined to find I like this time around) realize that this is not a camping trip. They are not hoping to eat well, they are hoping to win a million dollars. If that means eating coconuts and snails for three more weeks, so be it. They can eat steak and lobster every day for a month, once the show is over.
I made comments in last week’s thread that the incident between Rich and Sue wasn’t that big of a deal. I stand by that assessment because 1) I wasn’t there and didn’t see the incident unaltered by cameras and editing, 2) it didn’t happen to me, and 3) I didn’t hang out with Sue during the following two days and watch her deterioration. But I stand by Sue’s right to respond in the way she did, simply because I don’t know what’s going on in her head. And when someone feels like they’ve been assaulted, you give them the right to feel that way. Just like you wouldn’t walk up to someone who had just lost a parent and say “oh, you’re not feeling so bad…” because they didn’t outwardly react in the first 24 hours, you never second-guess someone who feels they’ve been assaulted.
That said, I have no problem being one of the few people to have lost significant amounts of respect for Kathy and Rupert during this episode. Kathy had no right to make the comments that she did, considering she isn’t even on the same tribe as Sue and didn’t see how she had become since the challenge. And Rupert works with troubled teens, for crying out loud. He of all people should have had more understanding that when someone goes through a traumatic event, they don’t have full control over what they’re doing/saying. I have no doubt Sue at some point made a comment that she would sue Rich for ten million dollars. Does that comment suddenly hold more weight than someone saying in the heat of anger “I’m going to KILL him/her!!”? I simply don’t think you can hold someone who feels they have been victimized to the same emotional/rational standards as someone else.
I never had respect for either Rob or Tom, so their actions don’t surprise me, just disgust me in the way that all of their actions do.
That’s pretty typical behavior for someone who’s been assaulted. They feel they are to blame for the assault, and therefore “know” that other people will rightly blame them as well. Plus, consider the editing… if Sue’s husband is as emotionally trigger-happy as she is, he may point to the comments she had been making up until that point and come to the conclusion that she “asked for it.” And really, when it comes down to it, she just had another man rub his penis against her, repeatedly, on national television. What kind of response do you think Sue’s husband is going to get at work? “Hey, a gay guy does it for your wife more than you do…” Ugh. I can completely see why this would be something she would worry about.
All that said, I hate every single one of the Survivors this time around. The only one I can possible stand winning is Lex.
I’m with you this time, Lib. I hated Boston Rob and the rest of the Lazy Alliance in Marquesas. But my favorite players have always been the ones who are able to successfully control the outcome of the game, and Rob looks like he’s doing that really well this time. Plus, he’s actually a hard worker this time around, amazingly enough.
My other fave this time around is still Lex. Loved watching him play in Africa, and still love watching his game in All-Stars. He seems like a genuinely good guy, and well-liked by everyone else. Which means he’s going to fall just short again, I’m sure.
As I wrote above, I agree that Boston Rob is playing a lot better than he did in the past. But I think he’s still not going to make it all the way. While he’s mastered the art of controlling his tribe, he’s failed to figure out the importance of leading from behind. He (like Colby) seems to feel the need to be the acknowleged leader. But acknowleged winners in this game become targets to be taken down. Usually the winners are the players who let someone else stand out front in an alliance while they advance behind them and step forward at the last minute.
Colby was the acknowledged leader last time and it wasn’t that fact that cost him the million (well, TECHNICALLY he lost to Tina because of it, but that was his own doing…)
