Survivor 4/8

Wow.
Boy, I was completely wrong. I would have liked to have seen some of the other discussions around the camp.

It looks like the Chaperas are pretty solid right now, though, and Kathy and Shii Ann are probably doomed. I hope I’m wrong again, at least about Kathy.
Spoiler box for the west coasters.

Pretty much what I expected. (This is where I would say, ‘I told you so!’)And Lex realized, too late, the magnitude of the mistake he made last week. I really don’t want Rob to win … here’s hoping Cathy and her friends can arrange a revolt next week.

Well, I thought Lex and Kathy had a better plan going on than just to trust Rob. Figured they had some inside info about Rupert and Tom not being so tight with the rest. Lex shouldn’t be so hurt, he did the same thing to Ethan and also gave him the whole “this isn’t about friendship” speach.

By the way Lex looked when Kathy said she was keeping her immunity, do you guys think he feels more betrayed by her or by Rawb? It seemed a foregone conclusion that she would give it to Lex and she would be voted out. She admitted it herself and said she didn’t want to be there. We really needed to see more. It’s good that it was a surprise during Tribal Council, but I’d like to see little interviews afterward where she tells what happened.

Rob and Amber should have planned better… Don’t make an enemy with the first jury member.

Okay, show just aired here on the West Coast, so no need for the spoiler boxes anymore.

I was honestly WAY more surprised about Shii Ann’s vote for Lex than anybody else’s. I mean, sure, it was a meaningless vote in the grand scheme, but the lack of solidarity among the former members of Chapera is just sad. Shii Ann can’t possibly think that just because she voted for Lex, she’ll be accepted into their clique.

Another week goes by, and another player I liked gets the axe.

And so goes Survivor.

The question now is whether Romber want to take Rupert and Jenna with them to the final four, or if they want to switch in Tom and Shii Ann.

ShiiAnn is a sheep. I don’t think she “thinks” at all.

Well, I don’t know how Lex can avoid it. He’s going down as the dumbest player in Survivor history. Let’s give the person who is pulling all the strings what he wants for no reason whatsoever. I shuddered last week when someone (either Kathy or Shi Ann) said “Rob will be mad if we vote her off!”

Gah! That’s what you want! Rob doesn’t strike me as the kind of person who plays will when he’s mad. Look at him in the reward challenge tonight. He wanted that day with Amber bad, and he looked like he was going to explode when it started to look like he was finally going to lose at something.

I was rooting for Rob at the immunity challenge, if for no other reason than to see Lex get what he so rightfully deserved.

As we’d say in the gaming world, he got gg owned.

There’s gotta be a point somewhere down the line where everyone realizes that they’re being played by Rob… it’s like Amber was flailing/discussing earlier, he’s promised so many things to so many different people, it’s almost impossible to keep straight. And, although she is coasting with him, he’s implicating her in everything he does… and I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets condemned when people catch on to his little games (b/c he may very well prove to be a reckoning force in these individual immunities).

Or perhaps it’s wishful thinking… DAMN do I want to see Rob crash and burn… ! How can people not see through him???

 1. Lex is dumb. At one point in this episode, he says something like “Rob wouldn’t break his promise, he’s not that kind of guy”. Umm, did you watch Marquesas, Lex? All Rob ever did in confessional was laugh about how he was “controlling the game” and “telling people what they want to hear”.

Lex should hardly be surprised that his “friend” Rob turned on him. Lex did the same thing to his friends (in the game) Ethan, Colby, and Gerri.

 1. Kathy has got to be one of the worst Survivor players ever. I’m not sure why some viewers like her. Remember Marquesas? She never (even tried to) fit in, and was essentially controlled by Paschal and Neleh (Kathy knew they would be hard to beat, but did just exactly what they wanted her to do until it was too late, after she voted Sean off). Were it not for a purple rock, she might not have made top three. Her strategy then, as now, consisted mostly of hoping that someone else (Vecepia) would take her along for no real reason.

I get so sick of seeing her agonize over every little decision, and then seem to make the wrong decision every time, and then agonize again after it’s done.

If she were a good player, this would have been the episode to try to do something about it (before Lex was gone), not wait until next episode. She didn’t even try to get Shii Ann’s vote shored up.

 1. Rob’s annoying, and I dearly loved seeing him look like he was going to cry when he lost the reward challenge to Rupert. But he did come up very big (or Lex came up very small) beating Lex for immunity—Rob knew that letting Lex and Kathy both win immunity could be dangerous.

I don’t agree that Rob has (yet) made a lot of enemies. Tom, Rupert, and Alicia aren’t going to see him as having “betrayed” Lex, because they don’t believe that he actually ever intended to take Lex anywhere. They’ll see that the two alternatives were to turn on Lex or turn on them, and they’ll see that Rob made the right choice to their way of thinking. So the only enemies on the jury he’s made so far are Lex and Kathy (Shii Ann doesn’t even seem much to care).

Lex might still vote for Rob as a good player, and Rob might get bonus points for doing the Lex-honesty-thing and telling him he’s going beforehand. As someone suggested, Lex may be more angry with Kathy than Rob. And Kathy’s too flaky in her decision making to worry about whether she’s an enemy or not.

Although it sounded like a crazy thing to do, I thought Cathy might actually give her immunity idol to Lex. Apparently, by the look on his face, Lex did too.

I’m glad she didn’t though. It was a sentimental idea that she would have regretted later.

I agree with Newton that Lex is dumb, but not because he trusted Rob. That was really his only possible chance at avoiding a Pagong. His mistake wasn’t in doing Rob’s bidding; his mistake was in showing Rob that he was pissed. He should have schmoozed Rob, told him, “Dude, you’re the most awesome player ever! You just tell me what you want me to do.” Rob would love the adoration so much that he would entertain keeping Lex around. But you know what? Rob really IS a good player this time.

Like Nightrabbit says I thought Lex looked surprised that Kathy wasn’t going to save him. Last we saw was him saying “no, no” so I am not sure were that surprise was coming from.

One element to me that will be interesting is that we will now see if Rupert is capable of learning from history. Do you stay loyal to your original tribe – even with an obvious untrustworthy inner-alliance? Or do you look for some combo of Rupe, Tom, Kathy, Jenna, Shi Ann & Alicia to bump them out and become the new king?

I want the big doofus to win or come close, but after seeing him toast with Amber and bring with siamesetwin Jenna (instead of solidifying with say Alicia or Tom), does not bode well for this. I expect him to get rolled again – although maybe Jenna has enough on the ball to help him.

I have to imagine that we are specifically not seeing some very key footage, or else the other, non-Ramber, people are utterly clueless lemmings.

We’ve seen people just hanging out and waiting for the next shoe to drop, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen it on such a grand scale before. That is going to have to change, now that it’s individual. It has to.

I knew Rob was a dick; but damn!

He’s practically crying when he and (y)Ambuh are split. He mopes around camp for three days. He prays to God to let him have Amber back. He’s pitiful. And then when he gets his wish, he’s like “Thanks for answering my payers, God. Sucker!” The guy was desperate, and he went begging to Lex. Then he turns on him at the first opportunity. Okay, I could accept that; but when he goes back on a promise after so sincerely begging to get what he wants, reveals what he’s really like outside of the game.

Amber went along with voting out Lex, of course. But at least she seemed troubled by it. I hope she sees what kind of person she’s falling for. (“Oh, gee, honey. You didn’t think I meant it when I told you you were the only one!”)

Oh, I think there’s a lot going on that we’re not seeing, by the way all of them were acting at TC. They all said it had been a rough day, so I think a lot of them are feeling pretty bad about what happened. Since it was Lex, though, who’s a threat in IC, they went ahead and voted him out. It could be that when it comes to voting out Kathy, who they all like, they might start changing their minds about tagging along with Rob.

Lex is an idiot and I knew last week’s decision to keep Amber would be his downfall.
His only motivation in keeping Amber versus Jerry (who trusted him) was in playing macho “taking care of another alpha male’s woman.” He should have known that Rob doesn’t keep promises. Not only did he vote to keep Rob’s best ally in the game but also to get rid of his own best ally. He deserved to go and I was so happy when Kathy changed her mind.

For five minutes, I was thinking “WOW! This is the best Survivor EVER!”. But it wasn’t to be. I would’ve loved to have seen TC if Kathy handed the necklace to Lex, and Rob’s voting strategy fell apart. Would everyone have automatically voted for Kathy? Maybe…maybe not…

I want to like Lex. Really, I do. But I can’t get over the fact that he’s a self-absorbed putz. In the confessionals he talks about how he’s there to “play the game” and yet when the game plan switches on him (as it does for everyone on a constant basis), he does not know how to adapt without being a crybaby pissy-pants.

He thinks he’s noble for sitting down with the bootees and telling them the deal, in the sake of “friendship”. How come he can’t take his bad news like a man? He also acted up back in Africa (or wherever he was). When people dare to play the game their way and it happens to impede his plan, he throws a tantrum and goes maniac on everyone instead of evolving a new strategy. This is what a true game player does. They don’t go on and on about “betrayal” and “friendship”.

When Rob told him what the deal was, Lex gave up. He just sat there and cried with Kathy. Sorry…don’t respect him for that. He could have at least tried to rally the other teammembers. Maybe he did, but I’m thinking he just counted on having Kathy’s immunity necklace. He undoubtedly thinks she backstabbed him too.

I think Kathy’s a cool lady but she got on my nerves this episode as well. I’m glad she didn’t give up the idol, but I wish she hadn’t even made Lex the offer in the first place. Why did she do that? I’m sick of the women on this show deferring to the males, and that’s exactly what she did. He doesn’t deserve to be in the game more than she does. Why should she sacrifice herself for him? Glad she came to her senses and hope she doesn’t fuck up again.
