I think probably they had planned on doing it. They all knew that that option was open to her, and I think they would have considered that contingency.
I’m still confused though. How are Rob and Lex “friends”?
They were on different original Survivors. They’ve never been on the same tribe in All-Stars. I think “If you take care of her, I’ll take care of you” were the first words they ever spoke to each other.
Do Survivors just hang out with each other all the time outside the show? This is driving me crazy.
But that look Lex had when Kathy said she’s keeping the necklace, F***in’ priceless.
As soon as Rob made his offer to Lex, Lex was toast. If he had voted off Amber last week, he would’ve been just as gone this week. He was damned either way, and immunity was his only option, I think. A shame, since I never saw Africa, but I was really liking Lex.
Kathy made the right move (for once) in keeping the necklace. Why sacrifice herself for Lex? At least she got three more days.
What I’m hoping for is for the former Chaperas to wise up and see that Rob is a threat. There seem to be 3 factions left: Ambrob, Rupe and Jenna, Shii Ann and Kathy, and then Tom and Alicia as the outsiders. The smart move is for Rupert, Jenna, Shii Ann and Kathy to try and snag Alicia or maybe Tom to take Rob out next time he loses immunity.
Hey Lex- in the immortal words of Nelson Muntz “Hah Hah!”
You stuck the knife in Colby, Ethan, and Jerry’s back saying its just business after each of them had done favors for you. Ethan was your friend and you double screwed him.
So now its the same exact situation except you’re on the receiving end, and you cry and whine like a little school girl. For being so stupid as to vote off all your strong players during the team challenges (the reason you were hopelessly behind whether you voted Amber out or not- learn to count idiots), you were a huge target as you were the only threat left on your team. You deserved the boot. You played a worst game this time and deserved your walk to losers lodge.
Kathy you betrayed your team during the reward challenge remember? Your talking about loyalty is a joke. Giving Rob grief just makes you stupid on top of a hypocrite. Winning the immunity along with your big show of misplaced Loyalty to Lex (who has none for anyone himself) just put the bullseye on your back and off Shii Ann’s. Your plan to jump ship was smart, your trying to try yourself to a sinking ship was quite stupid.
Enjoy your walk next week Kathy- I would be surprised if anyone wants to jump to work with you and Shii Ann.
As far as the friend thing, maybe they meet at the various Survivor functions and during the New York winners reveal?
This is exactly what I was thinking!
But let me just say: Lex you are STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!
You tought you were smart by eliminating the strong competition in your tribe. That’s not how the game is played. All you did was weaken your tribe so you went into the merge with fewer people than the other tribe. D’ho!
Then, to compound the situtation, you made a deal with Rob. Didn’t you watch the series he was on? He lies thru his teeth and brags about it all the time. So what did you do? You ditched your strongest ally and kept Rob’s strongest ally.
You are an idiot!!
The girls (sans Amber) need to team up and get rid of Rob and Amber. No two ways about it. That makes Big Tom the swing vote an puts him in the real position of power. Tom has to know that Rob is dangerous after the merge. The question is, can he get it thru his pig farmer’s brain that he needs to switch sides? I dunno.
Next week’s show should be a good one.
I think the key moment in the show was the least likely one: Rupert’s decision to pick Amber & Jenna for his rewart companions. In picking Amber, he showed he’s still sentimental about the old-team-spirit thing, and if there was one genuine wild card in Rob’s team, it was Rupert (and his massive, bruised-little-boy ego). That choice (and Amber’s reporting back of that dinner) confirmed that Rob could count on Rupert for at least the next few TCs in taking out the old Mogos (which is why I think the preview for next week is a red herring–there’s no way he’d ally with Kathy & Shi Ann) as long as Rob still gave the impression that their alliance was strong.
In seeing this, Rob knew that bringing Lex on board and cutting-off Rupert’s potential challenge dominance was a bad idea. His older “promise” superceded is more recent one; Rupe would have to wait, and Lex would need to go (given that Lex was a finalist in both challenges only confirmed he was a greater threat). Rob had little choice.
Word to Lex and Kathy for their irritating, self-righteous double standards, however. I liked Lex, but both their reactions (in light of past interviews and attitudes) showed them to be Grade-A hypocrites. Kathy has no legs to stand on (even Shi Ann voted for Lex!) and I’d be surprised if she could swing anybody. Can’t wait to see how, when the going gets tough, how un-accepted she actually is from the former Chaperans.
Not going to happen, I don’t think. Why? Alicia’s fresh off her newly minted alliance with Rob, and she looked like she was about to smack Shi Ann in TC. Plus Jenna ain’t going anywhere without Rupe. I’ll bet Shi Ann will make a point of mentioning she voted for Lex, too, to ingratiate herself to the powers-that-be. That leaves Kathy odd-girl out.
I think Tom knows that his best shot is to stick with Rob. It seems likely the challenges/immunities will be dominated by Rob and Rupe. As far as Chaperans go, Rob’s been around longer and those tribe sentiments are stronger, I suspect. Plus, if Rupert admired Tom so much for being such a strong worker (compared to all the “lazy bones” he’s complaining about), why did he invite the eye candy to the reward instead?
Kathy’s toast.
My feelings exactly. As soon as Rob approached LEx and Kathy, my first words were, “GG, dude.”
The one saving grace for Lex was that it seems he and Rob are friends outside the show, much like he and Ethan are. I think he figured that Rob would target him ASAP if he voted Amber off, and he wouldn’t be able to convince even one Chaperan to swing their vote in time for the first TC. OTOH, if he saved Amber, then there’s a chance that Rob would value their friendship enough go after someone else long enough for Lex to build up alliances.
Didn’t work, obviously, and I do think it was the wrong choice. But it’s not as clear-cut a decision as it seems, once you factor in personal friendships. His reaction was in inexcusably bad taste, though.
There is a “Survivor Circuit” of lecture engagements and personal appearances. Pretty much everyone in every Survivor knows each other (except for Rupert, who pretty much went directly from Pearl Islands to All-Star).
I personally found Rupert’s (love him as I do) “I’ve never won a reward before” to be slightly inaccurate. YES YOU DID! But you gave it up to the crazy boy scout lady!
First: what’s the “GG” reference mean?
Then – from Lex’ appearance on CBS morning show today, it turns out that he and Rob were quite tight, due to some joint appearances on the Survivor personal appearance circuit (or something like that) – but not anymore. He said he doesn’t need “friends like that”.
And I thought Rob’s parting words were surprisingly mellow, especially given his past psychoid behavior, here and in Africa.
Whoo, jayjay, simulpost!
And I meant Lex’s parting comments, obviously, not Rob’s.
“Good Game.”
It’s what online gamers type in to each other after a round of a game is over. You’ll see 'em flying by at the top of the screen:
Jimbo: gg
Slacker: gg
JeDaGe: gg
And so on. It started out being a nice polite thing to say, but it morphed over the years into more of an insult akin to “owned.” It’s usually used in conjunction with ‘owned’ actually, as in “GG Owned!” You may also see it get “verbed” occasionally, as in “You got gg’d!”
Finally a subject I’m familiar with! Should I start an “Ask the gamer nerd” thread?
Well, it’s not necessarily an insult. Kinda depends on context. After a brutally one-sided game, GG is a bit of a slap from the winner.
…so, yeah, I guess it was an insult to Lex
Whew. Kickass episode. I missed watching it on tv so I had to download it someplace, feels great not having the commercials impeding the viewing
I felt bad for Lex, he was toast either way, I thought he’s a fantastic player, but I was sort of rooting for Rob in the immunity challenge. Of the two, I think Rob has definetely strutted his stuff in All-Stars and he deserves a bigger pat on the back than Lex does.
But hell yes, great show, lots of dramatics
Another interesting thing Lex said Friday morning on the Early Show was that he had talked Kathy into keeping the Immunity necklace prior to TC. He said he was not surprised when she didn’t give it up. The way it was edited sure made him looked shocked, but given what we know about “reality” shows I believe him. The ending was what made me feel slightly sorry for Lex, (even though his choice to keep Amber was the stupidest thing on Survivor EVER) because it sure appeared he got royally screwed over twice in less than a day.
Boston Rob is exactly what he’s supposed to be. . . the guy everyone loves to hate. I also agree with previous opinions that Rob will not make it to the final 2.
Oh, and wouldn’t you just loved to have been there when Lex came walking into the outcast hotel 3 days after Gerri warned him about Rob? “Told ya so”.
Dumb dumb dumb.
I was surprised Lex was Rob’s first target. I figured he’d go for Shii Ann and Kathy first. At the very least, Lex could have tried to convince Rob to honor his promise to the extent of voting Shii Ann off before him.
Lex and Kathy should have also worked the crowd. They could have gone to Tom and Rupert and said “Lex and Amber promised us we were in the final four with them. They lied to us and are voted us off. They promised you the same thing. How do you know they aren’t lying to you?” There has to be some general distrust of Rob in the camp. Tom’s been laying low but he’s smart (and has a past alliance with Lex). Rupert’s sense of loyalty is working in Rob’s favor but could have been used against Rob as well. Of course, maybe this did happen and this was the talk around the camp that was mentioned at the TC.
It’s hard to judge Lex’s overall performance. On the one hand he manuevered himself into the bind he was in the week. But at least he was trying to think ahead; so many players just drift along without thinking past the next tribal council. Lex’s biggest problem was that he couldn’t handle being on the receiving end of the same kind of plays he was doing to others.
So there’s a Survivor Lecture Circuit?
I thought that dried up after the first Survivor. Learn something new everyday.
As long as there are people who are willing to be on TV, there will be people who fall all over themselves to meet them.
It appears Rob wants to go to the final pair with Amber, where he’ll play the “I’m a ruthless bastard but one helluva player” card in hopes of getting votes. If not, he’ll marry Amber and spend her million dollars.
I had the same thought. But I think (though I’m not positive) that the jury members are kept separate from the non-jury bootees. So Lex and Jerri might not get a chance to see each other until the game is over.
