Survivor Finale - 12/14

i thought i heard “maybe for the all stars my grandma will die.” … i’m strangely relieved to hear that isn’t so.

I really enjoyed this season and am very very happy that Sandra won. I don’t think this has been mentioned yet, but I was proud of Lill (who I really dislike) when Jon was trying to make the deal with her during the final immunity challenge. She finally showed some smarts by saying, “If you trust me, YOU jump in and I’ll get immunity and take you with me.” I laughed when Jon said he didn’t trust her that much. Pretty smart on her part.

As much as I disliked Lil, I thought it was kind of mean of everyone to pick on her for wearing the Boy Scout shirt.
She wore it for what she thought was a photo shoot. She had no idea they were going to be marooned in those clothes, and I bet she wasn’t going to take it to the island with her.
She couldn’t just stop wearing it; she literally had nothing else to wear.
She wasn’t on the team that won the sewing machine, and by the time they merged, either the sewing machine was gone, or they’d used up all the fabric.

What she should have done was cut off her long pants into shorts, so no one had to watch her compete in swimming challenges in her Granny Panties.

Shii Ann has great knowledge of Survivor and was probably going to be an interesting character until she got suckered in by the switch that wasn’t really a switch.

Amber is there to ensure that young male viewership will be representer. Also, she was likely screwed over by improper rule applications at an immunity challenge so this may be some sort of payback.

Thank you for the information and link Glory. I don’t know why I didn’t think of checking CBS myself, and was worrying I was going to have to glean my information from messageboards covering the first show.

So you wanted her to stand around in her granny bra? Once again, the contestants thought they were going to a pre-show party and photo shoot. She presumably had another outfit picked out for the actual game. The only thing she could have realistically done was strip the uniform of its badges, which seems a bit silly.

Their reaction to Lil was reminiscent of the African Survivor where the contestants were amazingly bitter towards another older woman who made it to #2, Kim Johnson. Personally, I liked Kim, but the members of the jury ripped her to shreds for being “dishonest.” She looked grandmotherly and the other members simply couldn’t seem to forgive her for not ACTING grandmotherly (e.g. being selfless) in the game. Christa praised Jon for his dishonesty (“I wish I would have thought of the lie about the dead grandma.”) then turned around and lambasted Lil for doing the same thing. Sexism and ageism is alive and well in 2003, ain’t it?

Totally agree with you PunditLisa. I remember being pretty annoyed at how Kim Johnson was treated on the show and by some on this message board. So true that older women get a bad rap if they aren’t grandmotherly.

Lil was kind of a freak, but just trying to win like everybody else. Of course she couldn’t obey the scout code, the nature of the game won’t allow it. I guess though, she shouldn’t have gone on about the scouts when you can’t play like one. Made her an easy target for charges of hipocracy.

I think this is a good point. His comment about “learning to be happy with what you got” also made me think he didn’t win – but apparently he managed to help kick Richard Hatch’s butt & was happy enough with the result-- so I’m happy for him

I totally agree. I really wish Rupert had won, but I think the popularity he’s gained is worth more than money.

I did read somewhere that 2 people where asked to appear on the All-Stars, but declined.

As for Jon, he was playing a character. As a pro wrestling fan, I recognized that right away.

He was being a "heel’. From what I have read, he is annoying in real life, but no where near the asshole he was on the show.

He was trying to get under the skin of everyone, just to get noticed.

Brian and Vecepia declined, as did Michael Skupin, who’s all busy with God these days. B & V have tried to distance themselves from the whole Survivor experience.

Late to the party…as usual.

Lill is full of shit.
Her choice to take Sandra instead of Jon was another of her delusional, weak attempts at ‘strategy’. It wasn’t until after the season had aired and she saw Jon for what he is that she claimed to make the choice based on integrity or a sense of who was more worthy.
Gag. I’ll say it again. Lill is full of shit.

Uniform or no, Lill played the scout card relentlessly throughout the game. Can’t use it to your advantage for the entire game only to forcefully denounce it at the end.

I found the outcome thoroughly satisfying. Sandra was my pick from the start, and If given the chance, I’d play exactly as she did.

Wow, they beat mostly reruns and christmas movies playing for the 22nd year in a row! That sure is a indicator of quality, especially in regards to last year’s vastly superior run.

Only Fox ran first run shows, and they did pretty well too.
