CBS, in its infinite wisdom, has scheduled the finale of Survivor opposite the series finale of The X-Files. Since I’m one of the unfortunate people whose cable company requires a decoder box for broadcast channels, I am unable to tape one show while I’m watching another. If you’re in the same boat, which one are you going to watch?
I would watch Survivor. I figure you could maybe catch The X Files in reruns later.
Survivor. I’ve seen pretty much all of it thise season and I think my mother would rather watch that than The X Files. She has the only working tv in the house, so I watch what she wants to watch.
Besides The X Files runs on FX and they do lots of marathons. It will be on again.
X-Files. I’ve never watched Survivor, so the answer is pretty easy for me.

Easier- Ask a friend or relative to tape it for you.

Harder (and maybe not possible). I have digital cable (all channels through the box), but the signal through the cable is normal in the lower (non-HBo type) channels. I bought a splitter and 2 lengths of precut and capped Co-Ax cable (ie. they have the screw attachments already mounted). From the splitter, one end goes to the cable box, the other directly into the VCR. This worked in my system.
To check if this will work in your system, unscrew the cable from the cable box and screw it into the VCR (which should be directly connected to the TV through different Video In than used by your cable box when you use the splitter). If you have a signal from the VCR, this set up should work. It does on my digital cable set up.
Now my answer- Survivor. X-files will be replayed this summer. But seeing as I can tape a program, I am taping Survivor and watching X-files. Thay way I can fast-forward through all of the dumb commercials and inevitable 5 minute music video “flashback past the extingished torch” time killer they force on us every final Survivor episode.

Funny, I don’t recall posting to this thread under a different name, but I must have as this would have been my exact post.
X-Files. I’m sick of Survivor. I don’t care about these people and about who wins. After nine years, I want to know the “Truth.”
And if they don’t reveal it, I’m going to throw sharp objects at my TV.

X-Files. I’d rather be disembowelled by a pack of rabid spider monkeys than ever watch Survivor.
I’m very proud and happy to say that I have never watched a single episode or teaser for either of these insanely over-hyped tv shows.
“The truth is out there.” It may very well be, but you sure as fuck aren’t going to find it watching X-Files
X-FILES OF COURSE!!!
I never watched survior (what’s it…their third one…second?)… not really interested in reality TV (ok, maybe the amazing race 2…nice scenery) and I’ve been watching X-files for a long time so I CAN’T miss it.
Reoch
We’ll have to watch Survivor – the whole family is addicted to it. I haven’t watched X-files this last season, but I’ll tape it so I can find out the truth. Well, I don’t actually hold out much hope that we’ll really be finding out the truth but I don’t want to miss it, just in case…
Jess
I hate reality shows, so it will be the X-files.
Anyway, you may actually be able to tape the X-files, Johnny. Run the cable box to the VCR and tape the X-files. Then set VCR/TV button to TV and watch Survivor. You may have to unplug the TV from the VCR and hook up an antenna - test it first.
See, don’t forget that local stations still broadcast. Use the cable for the VCR, and use the airwaves for the TV.
I suggest you tape and watch both together. You can call it SurviX Files.
The X-files. I’ve never watched a single episode of Survivor, because I think reality shows are the worst tv fad to erupt in my lifetime. However, if someone on Survior is eaten by a large mammal during its finale, I would watch it in re-runs.
Well, I guess that never watching either would make you an expert on them being over hyped.
And why the hell are you so angry? “but you sure as fuck aren’t going to find it watching X-Files”.
To the OP. I liked the second season of Survivor, and hated it since. I am a huge X-Files fan as well, so I myself don’t give a rats ass about Survivors finale. But to give you an unbias opinion, I think survivor has the type of last show that you have to watch with the rest of the world. The day after, everyone knows anyway. X-Files is worthy IMHO for you to try and have someone tape it for you. There has to be someone you can call…!?
But if you like X-Files as much as I do… don’t risk it.
