Survivor: Palau - Week 3

Oh, and esthetically, Koror’s was actually much nicer to look at.

  1. The outhouse and shower was generally sturdier than Ulong’s somewhat wobbly construction.
  2. They placed their bathroom facilities in the woods, well away from their sleeping and eating areas. Ulong’s was on their beach and I think fairly close to their shelter.
  3. No stupid bathroom jokes.

Absolutely terrific episode – we finally get an analysis of the tribal dynamics of Koror from Coby, the construction reward was quite entertaining with the contrast between Koror’s efficiency and Ulong’s bickering, the immunity challenge was completely gripping and it came down to a rather unexpected hero.

LOL. Am sure that you are not alone.

It’s looking like the rule about not sitting the same players at consecutive challenges is going to start hurting Koror. They have to sit 4 of 9 next week, so only one person can compete in both challenges. They really can’t bring the 1st string to both events, so they’ll have to decide if they want to save the strongest for the immunity challenge, or balance things out a bit more. I’d guess we’re about due for a less physical immunity challenge, though.

Do I have the Koror factions right? According to Coby, it’s Tom, Ian, Gregg, Katie, and Jenn with Janu, Caryn, Willard, and himself on the outside. If so, I’m surprised Katie made the A-list and Janu didn’t.

Impressive effort by Angie and Stephenie. I can see where they’re getting pissed about doing so well as individuals and knowing they’re being dragged down by their tribe. Kim was smart to try to ally with these two but she was stupid to wait so long to make the effort. Maybe she and Jeff can hook up again back at the lodge.

This week’s big loser was Jeff. He talked so big and did so little.

You mean Probst? Or is there another Jeff on the island that didn’t get voted off last week?

Sorry. Screwed up. I meant James not Jeff.

This was such a great episode. Survivor is really back on track this season. The location is beautiful, the challenges are well constructed and the players are interesting. Koror has to be one of the most together tribes ever.

I was a little surprised at the scope of the reward. Sewing kits and chocolate are nice but that shelter was truly a work of art.

I wonder if James realizes half the viewers hate his guts?

Mullinator, my sympathies on your ankle. Having sprained mine six times I truly understand your pain.

What an exhausting episode! I loved it!

Haven’t really been into Survivor that much since Pearl Islands. Haven’t really been into this season that much. But tonight’s episode was possibly the BEST. EPISODE. EVER.

The tribes aren’t split into men vs. women. Yay!

The “old” tribe wins reward! ::does happy dance::

“Old” tribe wins immunity again! ::does happier dance::

Lots of Tom action!

The lazy lay around do nothing hot chick gets voted off! ::does ecstatic Tom cart-wheel, knocks over furniture::

Oh yeah, and homosekshul-boy kicks redneck’s ass! “those homosexuals are strong, going to the gym all the time…” Bwah, ha, ha! The only inside of a gym Coby’s seen is possibly aerobics class, and he kicked. your. ass!

Whew. Don’t really care that much about the rest of the season, but this episode felt good!!

I shall sleep soundly tonight.

Line of the night: Well, we found Nemo. (holding up tiny fish skewered on the spear)

Tom proves once again that he is Da’ Man! I’m just dreading the fact that he will be a huge target after the merge.

Jennifer (Kuror) may be small and not very competitive in the physical challenges, but she TRIES, damnit! That’s the difference between her and Kim, who practically jumped off the platform of her own accord. Jennifer was beat handily by Stephanie in the first round, but gave her a good fight the second time they met.

Speaking of Stephanie–I really like her. She is tough, beautiful, and seems to have a good head on her shoulders. I didn’t like the men vs. women angle she tried to play before tribal council, though.

James is an ass. That said, I thought Ulong’s “bathroom” looked pretty good and I was surprised they didn’t win the reward challenge. I wish they would have shown us the judge’s explanation for the choice he made.

Willard points out to the camera that Tom and Ian make sure to say something positive and encouraging about each of their fellow Kuror tribe members every day. Not surprising to hear, but it makes me like them even more.

Also did you notice how shoddily the toilet seat was placed over a square hole!!

“What will happen this season when the tribes find out they will receive NO HELP AT ALL OF ANY KIND??!”

12 days later…

“We’re here to build a house for you.”

Not that I minded the reward - I thought it was a really good challenge, really - I just wish they’d be a little more honest in their advertising.

Kim is so worried about her health, her lack of food…and they show her in the next scene or two sunbathing. They showed her last week doing that too. Work for her was offering encouragement to Bobby when he was trying to knock down coconuts. Sheesh!

Wait, I take that back. she did go out on the boat when the others were fishing and watch.

well, for a redneck that probably *was *a good bathroom.

Props to Coby! Who knew he had it in him. Never underestimate a homosexial.

As I recall it, the no help at all meant at the start. They didn’t even have tribes yet.

I was thinking about this too, and I am beginning to think the rumors of

a double-TC next week

might just be true after all. Maybe the next challenge

will be some kind of individual reward, not something for the whole tribe, and maybe that reward will be temporary individual immunity or something, and instead of a tribal immunity challenge, both tribes go to TC with only the reward winners immune.

Then again, maybe not.

I suspect this ain’t the first time that James is going to get his ass handed to him on a platter. Now that the 'Bamans know that their resident hero got his ass kicked in by a “hom-o-sectial” he’s going to be a marked man.

Oh, I hope that Caryn, Willard, Coby, (Jenn?) don’t turn on Tom like Rob turned on Hunter in Season x!

Is it just me, or did Jenn and Greg just appear out of nowhere this episode? I didn’t realize they were even on Survivor Palau they flew so far below the radar. That to me means that both will go far. The editors tend to showcase people who will get voted off so that we know why they were booted.

Great episode. I’m so glad I decided to keep watching this season. A few random thoughts …

Caryn, Caryn, Caryn. Was she even trying to stay on the platform? You’d think someone with that much to bitch about would be a little tougher when push literally came to shove.

Poor Angie. I don’t like Stephenie much–maybe just because weird name spellings bug me. But Angie’s trying so damn hard, and doing such a great job … it’s just sad to see her continually disappointed.

Coby kicked some ass. Good for him. And good for Kuror, realizing that they need Ian in other challenges, and my beloved skinny little nerd-boy would get his bony behind knocked off that platform in 0.8 seconds flat.

I think I’m a bad person for being so satisfied watching Ulong wait and wait … and wait some more for Jeff to come back with the construction guys. But I’m not ashamed.

I really liked the reward challenge. I approve of challenges where even the losing team benefits rather than both teams being battered physically. Also, I approve of challenges that require strategic thinking rather than just brute strength.

Not that I think all challenges should be like that–how many improve the camp challenges could one have before they were living in luxury? But I liked it for this challenge.

Important message for contestents on reality TV shows: Do NOT count your chickens before they are hatched! It amuses me (and sometimes annoys me) how often contestents decide that they have either made the best project possible (without being able to see what the other team has done) or else decide that they are hopeless and doomed (without being able to see where the other teams are). The second half of that applies to Amazing Race more than any other show, but the first is practically universal to reality TV. It’s OK to take pride in your work- but don’t get too smug when you can’t see the other team’s efforts.

Damn skippy! Plus, he’s so tall, it wouldn’t be hard to knock him off balance. (As a 5’ tall woman with a 6’4" husband, I know whereof I speak.)

Has Mark Burnett been watching American Gladiators? These challenges are brutal! Koror is praying for no tribal shuffles, while Ulong is so slow to make decisions that in the 2004 Presidential Elections, they voted for Adlai Stevenson! Once again, I give you the less anticipated, highly derivative RICH RANKINGS! (K or U for Tribe and Last Week’s Rankings in Parentheses).

FORGOT TO FILE A 1040- I guess you couldn’t outwit everyone!

Wanda,Jonathan,Jolanda, Ashlee,Jeff- There are some pretty strong players here. I’ll bet Ulong wishes they would have kept Jolanda. Bad leadership is better than NOT drawing a name out of a hat!
Kim- (U/ Jerky)- She was lazy. She was dumb. She didn’t have a clue. But man was she pretty. Her face was so beautiful that I would consider putting on armor and sandals to invade Troy for her…

EATING BEEF JERKY- You’re still playing, but you’re praying for a tribe scramble!

Ibrehem- (U/Merge)- ZZZZZzzzzz……BIG PUSH……ZZZZZZZzzzzzz….
Bobby Jon- (U,Merge)- Wouldn’t you be happy if Gregg were on this team and Bobby John were aligned with Tom and Ian?
James- (U/Merge)- He’s the bad morale guy. FYI- They weren’t picking you as the leader. They thought they were dumping you!
[Angie- (U/Mohawk)- She’s a warrior! But Ulong is in such bad shape, everyone goes to beef jerky until they win or a shuffle occurs! And fellas, if you are interesting, Angie nails a lot at home!
Stephanie- (U/Big Tom)- I hate putting her here, too. If only Ian had picked her instead of Janu. She is awesome! Why isn’t she leading?
Caryn- (K/Jerky)- What a jerk. Sooooooo jealous of Tom. I think she is in line before Willard.

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A MERGE?- Middle of the pack players, the lotta ya! (Also a holding spot until people develop a personality!)

Willard- (K/Jerky)- I liked his analysis of Tom and Ian. Maybe he has the smarts to stick it out. Here is how Willard can WIN Survivor! Not just make the merge. WIN! Strategy: latch onto Tom and Ian. Promise them a solid vote all the way into the final four. Once they make the merge, which is sooner rather than later, Willard is no threat at all. In all likelihood, Caryn goes next. Koror could cruise to the merge. Try to get them to toss Coby and one of the girls (Janu). Play up the fact that you are weak, Willard! Yup. I’m rooting for Willard.

Janu-(K/Merge)- She did a nice job on the I.C. That’s about it. Janu! If you have “interesting” in you, let’s see it.

HEY! LOOK AT HIS MOHAWK-You might make the merge, but you’re grimacing from the jury row!

Coby- (K/Big Tom)- Persona Non Grata! They were ignoring you! But at least you rallied with a double redneck whoopin!

LOOKING FOR A BIG TOM TO ENGLISH DICTIONARY- Big Tom has spent more combined days on the show than anyone. But he didn’t quite grab the brass ring.

Gregg- (K/Tom)- “Steady”= “the dumb, strong one.” Interesting that Ian tried to send him when they thought it was a dump. Shows the three man alliance has a weakest member. GET IN THERE WILLARD!
Katie- (K/Mohawk)- You read it here first! The Snake Hunters DID form an Alliance!
Jennifer-(K/Mohawk)- She’s a nanny. MAN! That’ some lucky kids!

ARE YOU A RAT OR A SNAKE?- Reserved for a MAXIMUM of two players. You have to be in the driver’s seat for this spot.

Ian- (K/Rat)- Good picks on the reward. Good play, all around.
Tom- (K/Rat)- A little sneaky. Publicly called Ian the “leader.”
