Why in god’s name did Matt shake hands with the other tribe? Did he deliberately plan to do that? Was he just not thinking? I mean, if you know anything about Survivor, it’s already a given that you just DON’T do things like that, especially at the beginning.
Maybe he is that naive.
Or…maybe he isn’t. Maybe he did it knowing that he’d be voted out, then get his revenge upon returning to the game – that is, beating Francesca in the duel?
OTOH I hope Francesca beats him because I thought she was cool.
Are there rules now against fake immunity idols? I am wishing for Ralph to put a fake one in the spot he found the real one so Russell will think he is “the greatest survivor ever” and maunder on again about how the rest of the players don’t know the greatness of Russell Hantz. And see him try to play it.
The first Probst blog mentioned something about “can Matthew remain faithful to his strong religious convictions, or will he succumb to the nature of Survivor?”. I have a feeling he’s a born-again christian, and is trying to make a point of playing Survivor the “right way”.
Just so people are clear on the concept, it’s not “flint” they are using except if you are talking about a Zippo lighter. What they have is a ferrocerium rod, which is very often attached to a bar of magnesium. Shave the mag, scrape the striker and you have an extremely easy way of making fire if you have a fair clue of what you are doing.*
*coming from someone who can use a hand drill, a bow drill and several other ways of making fire by friction. We won’t even talk about being able to knap points and several other useful stone implements.
The problem with Russell finding a fake idol, is that he could sniff it out as a fake. and then he would know someone has the real idol.
Yao-Man was first player to try a fake idol, and that was about 4 yrs ago. and there has been several attempts of fake idols since then, some with hilarious results and unforgettable lines (already referenced).
Rob getting rid of Matt had nothing to do with his being a sore loser. Rob got rid of Matt because he knew Mat could be a threat down the line and by that point he might not be able to do so. He essentially took out Matt while he still could.
Besides, Secret Agent Man is clearly an idiot, very easy to manipulate and now clearly does whatever Rob tells him to.
Welcome to our Survivor threads, Ibn Warraq. We generally use spoilers on the night of the show – esp. East Coast fans who post before it has aired on the West Coast – but it’s not necessary to the following day.
Actually, in his tearful talking head played over his brave crab hunt, Phillip got all choked up talking about “wearing the uniform” and earning his trustworthy label, so he has certainly implied active duty somewhere, so I would be curious if he and the actual veteran meet and swap “HOO-AH!” crustacean overthrow stories.
Just because they haven’t won doesn’t mean they don’t know how to play. Rob is a great player. Remember, it was that idiot Tyson who screwed Rob out of what could have been his victory.
Russell, on the other hand, knows how to play half the game. He, clearly, still has no comprehension of the social or jury aspect of the game. I loved it when on Russell’s last reunion show, he was almost in tears, whining that he should have won, would have won if the viewers voted for the winner. And Jeff said simply, “But that’s not Survivor.”
Sucks if those emails turn out to really be from Russell. For all his asshattery, I’m still a fan.
I agree that Russell’s seen enough HII’s that he’d never be fooled by a fake.
I do love the way Rob plays the game. Break up the strong 2 in your own alliance, force the idol play from the girl not in your alliance, reign in the loose cannon FFA? and see if he can be trusted at all. While remaining in charge and have the rest of your alliance following like puppy dogs. All very impressive.
