Star Wars: Clone Wars premiers tomorrow on Cartoon Network. We have known about this for months, but why has there been next to no publicity?
I never saw a commercial on CN until last night. The only place that seems to care is theforce.net
Please don’t turn this into a “god i hate the new star wars movies george lucas ruined star wars blah blah blah” thread. There are plenty of people who do like the new Star Wars who would probably like to find out what happens in between episodes II and III. I think they should have advertised this a lot more.
I recall hearing about it many moons ago. The fact of the matter is that these last two movies were attrocious. “Droids” and other animated adventures turned out to be dismal.
Wish the series the best and hope it provides well scripted and well done episodes though. Promise lies in Genndy Tartakosky (of “Samurai Jack” fame) helming it.
They are only 3 minutes in length so the stories will hopefully avoid that pitfull of prolonged blabbering that was Episode II!
HA! The cartoon is a SMALL part of what happens between Episodes II and III. “Clone Wars” has been an ongoing event that encompasses not just the cartoon, but:
[UL]
[LI]The Clone Wars video game for GameCube, PS2 and XBox;
[LI]The Boba Fett “junior” novels;
[LI]Several novels from Del Rey, including the recently published Shatterpoint; and
[LI]All recent issues of Dark Horse Comics’ Star Wars: Republic monthly, including several Jedi specials.
The last of these is particularly important, since the bulk of the Clone Wars stories will be told in the comics. Several major characters (Durge, Asajj Ventress and the ARC Troopers) made their first appearances there.
Oh, yeah, and ALL of the Gungans were killed in Republic#51.
Seriously? You haven’t seen any commercials? Man, I’m seeing them all over the place. Adult Swim has been thick with them for the last two months. And speaking as someone who disliked the first one and detested the second one, I cannot wait. If it’s half as good as Samurai Jack it’ll still be the second coolest thing on TV.
I’ve only casually been watching CN lately, mostly for FLCL reruns and Sealab 2021, and the ads for the micro-series were all over. It’s also dominant on CN’s website, so they aren’t exactly hiding it.
I’ll give it a shot, hopefully at three minutes per episode it can’t be any worse than the two prequels so far even if it sucks. Then again since Tartakosky apparently wrote it rather than Lucas at least some coherent thought might have gone into othings like plot and dialogue rather than just how it looks on the screen.
Sorry Gumbercules, couldn’t resist a cheap shot at Lucas.
Larry, you might consider checking out Star Wars: Infinities–Return of the Jedi from Dark Horse comics. It’s an alternate universe retelling of ROTJ where Leia’s negotiations with Jabba go sour, causing Fett to run off with the frozen Han, meaning everybody’s going to be late for the battle of Endor…
I dunno about that, Soapbox Monkey… Lucas’ last two films make the EU look like masterpieces of storytelling in comparison. I’d ditch the prequel trilogy long before the EU. Attack of the Clones has got nothing on Traitor or Wraith Squadron.
The commercials say the episodes are 5 minutes long. But the length should vary from episode to episode. I’m excited.
And for those of you who don’t have CN they’re going to have each episode on their website only the soundtrack will be a commentary. Wont be the same but it’s still something.
Face and Phanan are the BEST characters in the Star Wars universe!
Yub Yub, Commander!
And Ewoks rule!
Okay, I watched the first episode-taped it, actually. Whoever is doing the voice for Obi-Wan Kenobi sounds so much like Ewan McGregor it’s scary. (And no, it’s not Ewan).
I can’t wait until Monday!
Oh, and if you haven’t read Shatterpoint, I suggest you do so. VERY good.
'tis a shame. just watched (and taped) episode 1 and the music really made it.
About the three-to-five-minute format, not a big fan. It reminds me of the Conan O’Brien bit called Sixty (a spoof of 24 where they follow some spy guy for one second at a time).
Padme was really cute here. Gendy’s style has produced quite a few slightly odd but damn sexy none the less character designs. In fact she even kinda looked like that actress that Dexter hired to replace Dee Dee after he fired her.
I hope we get to see her pout.
Does anyone know when they’ll rerun these? Our local guide said it was on at 8pm, then rebroadcase at midnight, but I checked at midnight and didn’t see anything.
