Saving oneself for marriage is not the norm in America today. I don’t think a reasonable person would disagree with that. You feel judged by people who choose to remain celibate until marriage. That’s a shame. But you should flip the coin over and look at the other side. All kinds of people choose to remain celibate until marriage. Society judges them for their choices a hell of a lot more harshly than it judges you for yours. Saving oneself for marriage is, according to society, fanatical, subversive, and featherlou even used the word unnatural.
Celibacy until marriage is not a choice I would make for myself. However, when someone publicly states their intention to abstain from sex until marriage, I always have kind of a “Good for you” reaction. If I had seen more people making that choice when I was a kid, I would have realized that sex was optional, not mandatory. I think it would have saved me some trauma and heartache.
