Former Governor Spitzer was involved with a prostitution ring. And the centerpiece of the scandal involving current Governor Paterson is that he was personally involved in a domestic violence coverup scheme in which a woman was pressured to drop charges against a key Paterson aide.
That’s a wee bit worse than forwarding racist and pornographic e-mails, not that that Tea Party joker ever deserved serious consideration for office.
There’s a pretty huge difference there. One’s sex life has no bearing on one’s ability to do the job. Racism does.

The racist shit is far worse than having sex, and in this day and age is an automatic disqualifier, though old-fashioned, openly racist hostility seems to be making quite a comeback on the political right these days.

Regardless of your opinion that criminal activity by an elected official should be beneath notice if you disagree with the law, does anyone really think that Spitzer didn’t violate the public trust and set himself up as a possible target for extortion attempts or improper influence?
As for the Paterson scandal being “just an allegation” - it must have been a coincidence that state police were sicced onto the woman charging physical abuse by the Paterson aide, that Paterson’s press secretary was enlisted to minimize the incident, and that she and four other members of Paterson’s administration have resigned following revelations of the coverup. Many Democrats have urged the governor to follow their example because the scandal is harming the party’s chances in November.

Paterson was not seriously considered electable even before getting mired in scandal, since he’s been a wretchedly bad leader and attracted ridicule over matters such as picking Hillary Clinton’s Senate replacement.
And as I said, the tea partier idiot should never have been considered a serious candidate in the first place.
