Texas Republican platform proposals are radical

His attention span is nowhere near that long.

Well, rhetoric can and does matter; see Trump and 1/6. Though I agree in general that it doesn’t for Trump, given the old “he tells it like it is” coexisting with “he was joking.”

Generally, when I say “doesn’t matter”, I mean, “doesn’t matter to sensible people”. Who the fuck knows what Trumpers are going to do?

He can with rhetoric incite action. But it says nothing about his beliefs or values, what he will stand up for, whose rights he would take action to protect, etc.

How did this become yet another thread about Trump? Somewhere in the first few posts someone posted something about Trump and the LGBTQ community that had nothing to do with Texas, and off we went.

I want to read about idiots in Texas, not the one in Mar-a-Lago.

More on the moron platform:

Remember when the conventional wisdom was that “the Republican fever will break”?

That was never conventional wisdom. That was a fairy tale Obama told himself long ago.

That’s like wanting to talk about chocolate and not mentioning Hershey.

Not mentioning Hershey’s chocolate is just good taste.

Are we doing this again?

If a thread is about Swiss chocolatiers but half the posts are debating Hershey bars, that’s an issue.

While the national Republican Party is the Trump Party, I’m not sure the Texan one is.

They don’t.

They want to shrink government to the point they can drown it in a bathtub. They want a weak government so strong (White Christian heterosexual) men can be in charge of their little fiefdoms.

I know that’s what they think they want, but do they have a clue about how infrastructure like the Post Office (sad as it is today) is paid for, or the military, or how interstate highways get maintained? I mean, seriously, do they?

No, I don’t think so. And even if they did, they’d want to replace the Post Office with a private messenger/delivery service because The Free Market Is God. Convert public roads to toll roads or private roads. Military? I have no idea what they’re thinking.

The Rank and File idiots? No, of course not.

The party leaders? Yes, almost certainly, because they’ve spent years now screwing with the US Post Office with the deliberate intent of destroying it as a viable government service. You can’t pull that off if you don’t understand how it all works in the first place.

Trump hinted at it when he kept complaining that NATO wasn’t paying for all the US bases around the world: The United States Mercenary Corps. USMC: Bringing You All The Freedom&Democracy™ You Can Afford!

In one of his books from about ten years ago, Ron Paul justified ending the income tax by noting that other sources–corporate tex, tariffs, etc.–would generate as much revenue as the total 1997 federal budget. So I guess they’re going to ask the military to take a pay cut to what they earned fifteen years ago. I’m sure that’ll work out fine.

I thought this too…20+ years ago. And here we are. They keep succeeding and spreading this ideology.

And you think giving away Texas will satiate this desire?
