I think giving away Texas will help blue states at the federal level.
Probably self-fund it the old fashioned way through spoils and tribute
I think feeding the GOP into a wood-chipper would help blue states at the federal level, but we’re probably not going to see that happen.
To be fair so did many of Obama’s supporters. I believed it myself as recently as the days just after the 2020 election culminating in 1/6/2021, when the shit that was on the way towards the fan finally hit it. Up until then I honestly thought it would miss.
Back in Obama’s day I was full of hope. I thought that all it would take would be a Democratic victory in 2016, tipping the SCOTUS in favor of the liberals and showing McConnell that his little stunt with Merrick Garland had backfired. After that it would be smooth sailing thereafter, with only an occasional setback. I didn’t see Trumpism coming.
I started as a big supporter of Obama. He was eloquent and said all the right things.
But, once he was president, he pretty much let the conservatives have their way with almost no fight.
And we have seen it here on the SDMB. While the board leans liberal it is nowhere near as liberal as many think. The opposition to the likes of Bernie Sanders was profound. Support for Hillary Clinton/Joe Biden was strong. And here we are.
Yep. When one side preaches “GENOCIDE”, and the other wants tolerance, then the “compromise” is simply “Murder quite a few people.”
Not exactly a great thing.
No need to teach it. “Texan superiority” is self-evident just from reading this amazing document. ![]()
Incidentally, I was wondering why it didn’t seem to include a ban on teaching evolution, but I had a look, and it’s there. In fact the whole section on education fully lives up to expectations. From that section: “…life origins and climate change … shall be taught as challengeable scientific theories…”. Meaning, teachers must say that climate change and evolution are “only theories” and probably bullshit. What is definitely not a “theory”, however, is the part on “Education on Humanity of the Preborn Child”, wherein it must be taught that “life begins at fertilization”. The kids are also required to watch something called The Miracle of Life to be sure they get the point. Also, the tyrannical evils of socialism must be taught.
By the time they get out of high school these kids’ brains will be so washed that they’ll be ready to go out into the world as genu-wine Texas Republicans, with no risk of having an incorrect thought, or indeed any thought at all.
I assume it is this one. I believe I had to watch that in high school for health class.
It’s a documentary about human reproduction made in 1982 and at one time broadcast on Nova. It won multiple awards. It’s not a pro-life polemic on abortion or anything. But I could see someone taking that documentary and saying, “See?! That there is a baby. Y’all can’t murder babies!”
While it was lauded at the time, the thing is 40 years old at this point.
A mix of Call of Duty and Far Cry 5, if you know video games.
I don’t. Please 'splain.
