With all the horrid stuff going on, and the depressing and stressful news updates every few minutes, I think it’s time we had a comfort party. It’s a pitch-in, so raid your pantry, find your favorite blanky, and come on in.
I’m just pulling the banana bread out of the oven, and I also have a nice big pot of coffee (with four different choices of flavored creamers), as well as another pot of hot chocolate. I even have, in that cabinet beside the fridge, and economy-sized bottle of Irish creme, should we need it. Guess I’d better mix up some dip for the chips, nothing more comforting than a good bowl of Ranch dip, am I right?
The kitchen, of course, is available for use, in case anyone wants to whip up mac and cheese or potato soup.
Let’s see…we still need fluffy slippers, some kitties or bunnies to pet, maybe some Playdoh to make little comforting sculptures from. Oh, and music! We need music. Someone bring a guitar, then.
Let’s see…what else?
And I’ll bring the s’mores, Doritos and Dr. Pepper.
We also need beanbag chairs and chenille blankets.
I’ve got the kitties! They’re both pretty good sized cats, so everyone can pet them. Gomez is a lap kitty, but Ben is the kind of cat who likes to lay on a pillow next to you.
I’ll also bring a variety of hot teas, some squishy pillows, and some good movies. Anyone got any requests?
Well, I’ve got a big pot of red beans-n-rice here, complete with crunchy French bread if we get real hungry. Also a 12-pack of beer, to go along with my set of Dominoes. The wood-rack is full; shall I start a fire?
Oh, and Karol, may we light some of your beautiful candles? Mmm…
Oh yes, candles. Lavender for the living room, perhaps; vanilla in the bathroom; and I think maybe a nice soft spicy one in the kitchen.
Of course, I also have lovely handcrafted honey oatmeal soap, which is comforting to the soul as well as the skin.
Mmmm, beans and rice! And smores! And skerri, got any Tension Tamer tea in there? That’s my favorite, and it’s lovely on ice too.
Ahh, let’s not forget the fireplace! It’s lovely brick with squished-out cement, and if we light a small fire, the comfort quotient will go up dramatically. We’ll just open a window if it gets warm.
And yes, I do like to say things are “lovely.”
Lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely.
What, no brownies? I’ll bring some from my favorite recipe; dark and fudgy, with toasted slivered almonds and dried sour cherries. And I’ll see if my cat will come with; he purrs like an overheating locomotive.
I’ll bring a nice bottle of red wine, too. Or maybe some hot spiced cider. Any preferences?
bodypoet, it’s because lovely is just a comforting word, in an old Audrey Hepburn movie sort of way.
Oooh. And chocolate chip cookies, fresh baked with some nice cold milk.
[sub]Now I have to go to the store to buy some cookies… [/sub]
's OK, I’ll bake some. Should I bake anything else while I’m at it?
No, I really need cookies!
Well, when I bought the cake mix for Opal’s b-day last week, it was buy one-get one, so I have a yellow cake mix just begging to be baked. With fudge icing, yes? Oh, yes…
And sprinkles too, FCM, right? Please, tell me there’s sprinkles…
and croissants
I’ll make a carrot cake and pumpkin bread. Homemade soup available upon request - chickie noodle, pea, potato, or a lovely stew with dumplings.
Crack out the big fluffy towels and crank up the hot water heater. Everyone is welcome to a hot bubble bath with candles, then a massage.
This is about perfect. I’ve got some extra 12-packs of diet soda I can bring, and about half a bottle of Bushmill’s Irish Whiskey for Irish coffee.
Aaron can stay with his dad for the afternoon.
Robin
belladonna, just for you, I’ll break out the sprinkles. As it happens, my kid is addicted to sprinkles, so we gots lots in the pantry.
WooHoo! I’m in.
I’ll bring Oreo’s and fresh cold milk. Along with a big stack of coloring books and a brand new box of 64 Crayolas.
OK, but if I catch anyone braiding the fringe this party is OVER (and the ski trip will be cancelled!)
For me? Gooey grilled cheese sammiches!
Ooh, ooh, ooh! I am so there!
Oooooh, new crayons. Wonderful.
If Washte is giving massages, I’ll double-team, because I’m just learning and haven’t started doing clinicals yet. According to my instructor, though, (who I double-teamed on last week) I do “awesome energy work.”
Whatever the hell that means. I think it means I have hot hands. Heh.
I’m thinking a big stick of pepperoni might be in order. I’m a spicy/salty/crunchy type comfort fooder, myself. Well, as a first step, at least, then I get into the soft/soupy/milky phase, and finally the chocolatey/gooey/cookiedough phase.
Ooh, there’s the doorbell again! I wonder what goodies await us…
