Let me join in calling bullshit very loudly on this assertion. Bullshit! One cannot (or at least should not) go around accusing people of unsavory behavior with no justification.
As far as I could see, the only similarity between what I have written about Liberal and what was contained in the OP by gum was that both myself and those people were writing things about Liberal that were not very nice. Based on this, she(?) implied that I was a cowardly chicken, or some such bullshit.

It was a bit more than that. It was an attempt to wrestle the powers of moderation away from the SDMB staff. They accused the staff of failing to moderate me sufficiently for their tastes. It was an active conspiracy to produce a banning, complete with false accusations and historical fiction. For that sort of activity, you would have to go to a separate place. It would not be allowed here.

I have put my name on any “snark” threads out there, and wouldn’t say anything there I wouldn’t say here. For example, I said I thought Liberal was acting like an asshole lately (esp. in 2 threads, 1 of which prompted this thread). I did not participate in plotting to get him banned or whatever. I did ask why he’s allowed to be a jerk when being a jerk is against the rules. I echoed that sentiment here. I have nothing to hide except my identity!
From what I’ve seen, the anon threads are pretty horrible… if for no other reason, you can’t follow a conversation when everyone is named “anonymous.”
I have a hunch that “pretty small minority” is probably a fairly sizeable plurality. But as human nature goes, the people who agree with your ‘shouldn’t have been banned’ sentiments aren’t going to waste their time or energy arguing with a bullheaded, edict-laden staff and the members that are in their ‘amen corner’.
Y’know, I have never received a report against Liberal in which he was doing anything different than a dozen other posters–often in the same thread. I don’t see him “getting a pass” on actual actions. (Frankly, I rarely get reports against Liberal, but that may be due to most of the friction occurring in The Pit instead of GD.)
I do see Liberal taking odd approaches to language and meaning. I occasionally see him throwing a snide comment into a thread where it was not welcome (the prompt thread for this one being a fine example). On the other hand, if we warned every poster for unwarranted snideness, the staff would spend about four hours a day issuing warnings. There are more than a dozen posters who routinely interrupt religious discussions to made snide remarks about imaginary sky pixies or bronze age thunder gods or whatever catch-phrase is current this week. The major difference between their posts and those of Liberal is that most other posters simply ignore them, recognizing a one-off sarcastic comment as being unworthy of debate. No thread gets started on education or the economy (or child-rearing or a host of other topics) without some partisan twit posting a one-liner condemning liberalism/conservatism/Bush/Clinton/Political Correctness/hate groups/the military/educational establishment/Designated Hitter for the fall of civilization. Most of those silly posts either get ignored or evoke a similar one-line dismissal. Yet, if the author is Liberal, suddenly it is a hijacking and the cause is “Liberal making the thread about himself.”
I do not have a good answer for finding ways to communicate to Liberal just what it is about his posting style that riles up the folks with torches and pitchforks, but from a staff position, I am finding it difficult to see where I have cut Liberal any slack that I have not extended to a whole host of other posters. The main complaint seems to be that we should punish Liberal because it would not be fair to punish the dozens of posters who insist on attacking him or arguing with him.
