I missed joining in the first thread on this, but I’ve been trying to lose weight. This may help with the encouragement part. I started dieting and adding more excercise at the first of the year. At that time I weighed in at 186 pounds or so. My weight as of feb 1 was 176.4. So just about 10 pounds. WOOHOO!! My overall goal is 155, with an interim goal of 170 by march 1.
I was at 221 this morning – a pound up from last Friday – but I weighed 218 yesterday morning and had copious amounts of salt on my cantaloupe for lunch yesterday so I’m blaming the sodium.
Also, I’ve finally added a bit of exercise to my diet and now try to do as many pushups as I can (averaging ten at a time) at least once (and sometimes twice) a day. It’s not much but it’s better than I was able to do ten years ago, which is both amazing and very, very sad.
I don’t remember where I was last week, but this week I’m YTD -5, so I’m on track with my five pounds a month.
Did do better on being active this week (I can’t really call walking “exercise” – can I? Two miles, brisk pace?) – managed to walk four of the five weekdays. Yesterday it was raining all day – looks sunny today, I should be able to go out.
This cold is getting tiresome. I’ve had sniffles all week. This morning, no sniffles to speak of. Haven’t taken a Sudafed. I’m hoping I’m getting over it. See, I won’t exercise when I’m sick. IMO exercising stresses the body – which is good, because stressing muscles builds them – and I’d rather have it fighting the cold than building muscle at this point. Still, I weighed myself this morning and was down another pound.
I went to Vitamin World yesterday to pick up some low-carb snackage. Those bars are good. And since I like to chew my food and they are so chewy, it takes me a while to finish one. The cool think is that the woman there showed me some granola-like stuff with cranberries. I’m so tired of meat and low-carb bars! Only 2 or 3 grams of carbohydrate per ½-cup serving. I also got some low-carb oatmeal. I’d prefer plain, but all they had was cinnamon-flavoured. I haven’t tried the oatmeal yet, but the granola is good. I really need to get to the market to get some more bags-o-salad. I must have veggies!
Once again, I’ve forgotten to eat breakfast. I’ll remedy that with some meat.
Lost 10 pounds in January. Not as much as I hoped for, and I am running a bit behind schedule. After almost 7 months and 135 pounds, I am finding it hard to keep motivated to stay on the plan for those last 20 pounds.
Brightpenny, it sounds like you are not having regular doctor visits as part of your program? Please be careful, and if you have any more difficulties please be a pest with the doctor. There are a lot of possible side effects to this kind of program, and they really should be monitoring you more closely, and responding to your concerns. It’s not just about consuming their products. And congrats on your first week, and your excellent BP stats.
OK, first day of unemployment, most of my virus is gone and I’m ready to dig in. I have already excercised today and since I am bound to be bored being laid off and all, I may even excercise two or three times. I did not eat well over the weekend, due to both the Big Game and Friday’s farewell party. But today I will be home alone and I expect to be on good behaviour.
My gym opened Friday, and I went, getting some of the first exercise I’ve had in… a long time.
I biked for 15 mins and ran for 15, just to maintain a good heart rate. I was pretty psyched that I was able to go as long as I did, and I would have run more (I wanted to see if I could hit 5k at the 12 minute mile pace I was keeping), but I showed up late in the day and they were closing up.
Of course, food yesterday probably negated any benefits, but I’m off to the gym again tonight.
VunderBob That’s just amazing. Really. Good for you.
Me, I was doing well last week but then I over ate this weekend and ended up weighing in at 181.5 again this morning. If this were the correct forum I’d be swearing. I suck.
I seriously need to just work on eating less and not eating when I’m not hungry.
But I did go for my walk this morning. Extra fast because it was extra nippy out. I’m thinking about adding 20 minutes of muscle building type exercise in the afternoon when I get home from work. Push ups, crunches, dips, etc.
OK, I’ll check in. I did manage to get up and go for a walk every day so far this week. It’s difficult some mornings and this morning I hit the snooze 3 times but I did finally get up and get out there. When it’s cold like it was this morning I tend to walk lots faster which I guess is a good thing. I think I figured out that my daily walk is around 2.5 miles.
But I’m still stuck on 181 so today I decided I’d try something different. I had a Myoplex Lite for Breakfast and another one for Lunch. Maybe if I shake things up a bit with some serious caloric restriction I can make some progress.
As mentioned, I am excersising like a madman. It seems to have the unexpected side effect of giving me insomnia. I stop excercising well before bedtime, but I have trouble falling asleep, I don’t sleep too deeply and I’m up early the next morning. However, I don’t seem to be groggy, so I guess it isn’t too bad for me.
I suppose I should have started posting in this thread last year, when I decided I was sick of being overweight. I went on a diet program called Medifast and lost 90 lbs; when I went off it I gained about ten back. Now I work out three or four times a week with friends and eat pretty much whatever in moderation, which is nice. I’d like to get down ten or fifteen more pounds; I figure that as I keep on hitting the gym more it’ll slip off.
I suck at the whole eating moderately and good food type of thing. I had been pretty good with the exercise at least, up until this week, when I was entertaining my mother and had no opportunity to exercise.
Hopefully I’ll be so disgusted with myself by the end of the week that I’ll be good next week. (My weeks are Thurs-Wed because of my WW meetings, so expect a post tomorrow)
Went to the gym last night… it’s early to say, but I feel like I’m being successful at heading down there regularly. It ended up being late at night (10PM), but I have a feeling that most of the time that’s when it’ll have to be; I’ve never heard that it’s bad to exercise before bed, so I hope I’m not putting myself through undue stress.
But yeah, the format of my gym days looks like work, dinner, digest for a few hours, and then go work out. It’s kind of neat; there aren’t that many people there late at night.
Well, I lost 2 lbs in the month of January. Which I think its pretty darn great considering all the birthdays I had to celebrate, including mine.
I’ve been stick since last week, so no excercise as of yet for the month of February. I can’t wait to get back to exercising, though, I feel so great when I’m doing it regularly.
Oh, and Yay! for me. My brown corduroy jeans fit me again!
