Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and rainyish (scattered showers in the area with one happenin’ as I post) with a predicted high of 65 and mostly cloudy for the day. Turkey is in the oven to do it’s thing. This is a twenty pounder so given the twenty minutes per pound cookin’ standard it needs six hours and forty minutes. I also will need to bake the dressin’ which will take about an hour and a half and the sweet N.O.T. which will take about forty-five minutes but can go into the top oven since they are in a casserole dish. I will make the gravy close to chow time as well as bake the rolls. Lots of oven time happenin’ this mornin’. Folks will start to arrive around elevenish for Bloody Mary’s and munchies. The feast shall begin around oneish. Let the good times roll!
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. It needs to wait a bit for feedin’ time however. Prednisone must be ingested before brekkie time as well as right after along with the Hydroxyzine (sounds like the name of a cookie to me). Of course, at some point, purtification must ensue. Rah.
Happy Turkey Day, to those of you who are turkeying! I am at irk, it is irksome as I am doing stuff I really Don Twanna. However, I is a good person so I is doing stuff, even if it is stuff for other people that they ought to be doing for themselves but for some reason they are not.
Tonight will be groceries night and then a bit more of the NaNo project. I am doing much better this year than in previous years, I still have a week and only 9,500 words to go to target. Of course, in my head there is still lots of story yet to come, and I haven’t even had to break out the emergency roller-skating penguins!
I am now purtified and brekkied. Turkey is still bakin’ away and smellin’ nummerific! Other stuff is staged to go in the oven. OYKW is even up and about. I am sippin’ on diet Poopsie and chillin’ for a bit. The festivities are begun!
Plan B is a slightly up-scale (for us) diner that is supposed to be open. And then Santa is going to Da Jungle for 4 hours of hard labor. Hey — if the damn elves have to work the Fat Guy can at least throw in a hand! Am I right or what?
(Having “the look” and having done this since we opened I just have to. The current TPTB can write me up if they want to but phukit I’m going to have some fun)
More cloudy than not and at 11 am 78F on the way up to 80F. But the sun’s still pretty bright through the clouds. Might rain for a few minutes sometime today. We’re up & well fed. Have been for awhile.
The turkey-into-oven process starts right after I click [Post]. It’ll be a slowish roast for a late afternoon meal. The rest of the prep is pretty low key & much later. Dinner for 4 is about 1/10th the work of dinner for 12. Best of all, a 20+ lb. turkey is 0% more work than a 4 lb. chicken. For vastly more leftovers & stock.
Condolences to all who have to work today or tomorrow and wish it was otherwise. I’ve certainly been there many, many times over the years. But not this time. Neener neener.
Even for Orygun it’s raining pretty hard right now. TWPTB say “light rain”.
The turkey is drying before I roast it. I usually do it on the grill, but my grill is busted and I never got around to a new one. The oven it shall be.
We’re having a long, lazy morning. I think we’ll follow it up with movies and popcorn while we cook. A nice day.
Wifey is in the kitchen making her Quinoa, butternut squash and kale salad and whirring the coconut pie ingreedymints up in the blender. (Hey it’s my recipe, but I didn’t say I was gonna actually be the one making it this year.) I wandered in there and made our brekfast a few minutes ago, then I skedaddled. When we’re both in the kitchen cooking she tends to take over and we end up arguing, so Ima let her do it.
In an hour or so we’ll mount up and head down the road to Eugene and the kids house.
I’ll try to remember to wave to you when we go by Sunny.
The rain hasn’t gotten here yet, but we have the pontoons on the car, so we’ll be okay.
Now it’s time for me to purtify, and then I’ll try to take over the kitchen.
Much merriment has been made and way too much food stuffs ingested. A good time was had by all. Company has departed and the dishwasher is doin’ its thing. I am sippin’ on a glass of iced tea and OYKW is achievin’ nappage. As always, I love company both comin’ and goin’.
I took Pepper pup for a short walk. We both wore our slickers. She doesn’t need a jacket to stay warm, but I really appreciate NOT having a wet pooch. She is doing much better at not pulling and ignoring all the distractions. Now I just have to transfer that to other people walking her. She’s not nearly as good for anyone else.
Just woke from my post turkey nap. Just in time to eat again and go back to sleep. I don’t know what it is about sissy’s place but I always sleep good whilst here. Was a little coolish this morning so we have added another blanket to my bed. Of course anything below 70ish is cool to me.
In the morning I shall start my trek to middle Jawja to visit other family members. I really miss my canine companion. Badly.
Tuesday cannot get here quick enough. I hope everyone had a great day.
Home, still stuffded, and totally exhausted! Dinner was good. The surprise shower was a surprise, and daughter got some great baby stuff, including lots of books. They’ll leave some things here and take some home with them. Right now they’re visiting with SIL’s family, so we’ve got some peace and solitude for a bit.
Dinner is finished. Everyone was too stuffed for dessert. We’ll have to come back for that later. I forgot to get anything for cranberry sauce, so we didn’t have that. Otherwise, I think we had a pretty good spread for the 4 of us.
Now I will sit here in the dark and start re-charging my spoons.
Tomorrow we will probably be shopping for a new refrigerator. A story for another day.
I slept till 3:30 this morning, so progress. It gave me time to finish my ebook (after checking it out from the library again - they only give you 2 weeks at a time.)
Daughter and SIL left the garage open last night - it was freekin’ cold in there when I let Higgs out - 27° with frost on the ground. *brrrrrrrrrr *Daughter got up and let Cozmo out and fed him - he’s still eating and Higgs is chilling. I’m wide awake so there ya go.
No idea what we’ll be doing today. I’ve got a few things still in the trunk and I’m going to try to fix one of the preggo pants if I can. We’ve got to get a new brake light for FCD’s car but other than that, no real plans. I expect they’ll take a bunch of the shower gifts out of their car and decide what stays here and what they’ll take.
So mostly a day of moderate activity and chillage. Happy Firday!!
