I am starting this thread in anticipation of tonight’s episode.
Line of the night for me:
“Are you still a loser or did you turn things around while you were gone?”
Once again Amy (or to be exact, Amy’s smile) is the best thing in the episode.
Yeup. “I must be doing it wrong. It took me an hour.”
The baby got the best line of the night.
I heard it as being “hours”. That Shamey sure is sexxed up.
Once again Stuart got some good non-“I’m a pathetic loser” lines and the ones they did give him were funny.
Sheldons line of, “Those are things we think but don’t say.” line about what a loser Stuart was and then Sheldon being all proud of himself for being a some-what normal person had me laughing.
I agree about the baby and her Ms. Wolowitz sound of crying and then Raj saying, “Oh, it’s that one.” was great.
I also liked when the crew was first heading out to the hospital and Leonard had to go back up the stairs to get his inhaler because he “came down the stairs too fast”. My brother had asthma as a kid and for some reason such trivial things would set him off so it was funny to me.
This makes an interesting trivia question. Who appeared in this episode of the show, making it their sixth appearance in all? This includes both the original unaired pilot and the pilot that was shown as the first episode. Interestingly, although this character is supposed to be the same person in each episode and not a case of an actor playing multiple roles, the character is encountered in slightly different ways each time and no one among the regulars ever says, “Hey, I think I’ve seen you before.” Well, in the aired and unaired pilots, this person is in the same scene in both, and it’s not clear that the scene was reshot for the aired pilot. The character has a name, although they aren’t referred to by that name in any of the episodes, I think.
The sassy nurse.
Hardly original.
The baby’s cry cracked us up! I am glad they didn’t name her Debbie - that would have been too sappy.
And Sheldon’s line about it taking hours was another good one. Along with Raj telling Howard “I love you, too!”
I didn’t much like the nastiness between Raj and Stewart, tho.
Here’s an interview with the showrunner about the episode and the rest of the season. He touches on the appearance that Wendell Wagner hints at.
You’re talking about Vernee Watson as the nurse, who seems to be on duty whenever any of the gang has to go to the hospital for any reason. Her character name appears in the end credits as “Althea,” although I think you’re right that this name has never been spoken on screen. I only wish she would have remembered Howard as “the guy with the robot arm.”
Those of us of…ahem…a certain age will remember her as Vernajean from Welcome Back, Kotter. To this day, despite her long career, whenever I see her I always think, “Hey, it’s Vernajean!” Terrific actress with great comic timing.
I cracked up. I laughed until I was literally crying.
What an incredible tribute to Mrs. Wolowitz.
Though I think “Halley Wolowitz” is not a good name.
Hilarious!
I wish there would be a scene with her and Human Resource’s Janine Davis. I always wonder if they are related.
And Wanda Sykes.
Wotta trio they would make!
I’m really re-thinking my username.
Yeardley Smith had a memorable guest spot as well. It seems that service workers in Lorre-land all have a bit of spunk to them.
So we got a glimpse of some bare Amy legs in this episode, isn’t that a first?
It really needed a line like “So, you’ve moved on from robot arms, have you? Congratulations.” Something was needed to tie the two episodes together.
Otherwise a fairly entertaining episode. As noted, Amy’s various smiles were killer.
