The Big Bang Theory, Season 9, Episode 20 (April 7, 2016) -- "The Big Bear Precipitation"

I was surprised not to see a thread. Don’t really have anything to say about the episode, it was kind of meh.

And I’m surprised not to see a “Never Have I Ever” thread in Games.

Never have I ever seen such a weak episode since last week.

I thought Howard’s “Did you get Graham crackers?-- oh, how’s the baby?” was pretty funny.

You know he’s not going to lift a finger when that baby is born. There’s probably going to be an episode where Bernadette goes into labor the day he’s supposed to leave for ComicCon, and he actually thinks about going anyway. Then, four or five weeks later, there’ll be an episode where he has to take care of the baby by himself for a day, and he panics and calls the guys, and Raj ends up doing all the work, but Howard takes the credit.

Which will give them the final arc to the series, when the girls all go over the edge when the guys continue to be the guys and ax murder Sheldon, Leonard and Raj. A jury finds them all “Not Guilty” and they, the sprog and Raj all move in together and live happily ever after.

Yeah, I usually start the thread, but I got too busy with work yesterday.
It wasn’t the funniest episode by far, but I did enjoy seeing Raj struggling with the enormous Kodiak-size teddy bear. It does make sense that he would overdo it to be a part of the pregnancy. He would be happy to be the mother of Howard’s child, himself…

I like this bit (paraphrase)

The huge bear was some good (IMHO) physical comedy

mostly i tune in to see how bit by bit, the wolowitz house is becoming more and more howard and bernadette, and less mrs. wolowitz.

war has been waged against wallpaper. i like the grey colour on the walls.

Agreed. Howard is not prime daddy material. Isn’t there an episode in which Howard, looking after Raj’s Yorkie, loses the dog? IIRC, the dog was in a baby stroller, which just emphasizes how irresponsible he he is.

Does anybody recall an episode in which somebody refers to a time when Howard misplaced not a pooch but a baby? It was a throwaway line that was meant to inform us about his character (or lack thereof) and didn’t refer to an event we the audience ever saw. Though who in their right mind would entrust Howie with an infant is beyond me.

I got a giggle from Bernadette wrapped up in the bear. That looked really comfy!

I wasn’t even paying attention. I’m going to start now. Thanks for bringing it up.

I thought that was Leonard and Penny.

I would love a giant teddy bear like that just to sit in it like Bernie.
Not many laughs this episode. Raj and the bear was funny. Hearing the babys’ heartbeat was touching. Sheldon dropping his pants to look for ticks was funny. The first time I saw it in the commercial a week ago. Since it was in all the commercials this past week seeing it for the tenth time wasn’t funny in the actual episode.

Hmm …

Howie is too irresponsible to look after a baby.

Bernadette is focussed on her career. Furthermore, as an eldest daughter who had to help raise her multiple sibs as well as work in her mother’s illegal day care, she’s stated that she doesn’t want to look after any more children.

Penny wants a career change.

I think I see where this is going.

Leonard and Penny poisoned Cinnamon, Howard and Bernie lost her.

I loved Amy and Sheldon’s never have I ever game at the end. Reminded me how more alike than not they are.

Penny will be the nanny. I can get behind that.

Thanks for clearing that up.

From Cinnamon | The Big Bang Theory Wiki | Fandom

“In ‘The Proton Resurgence’ (S06E22), Howard and Bernadette looked after Cinnamon while Raj worked a long weekend in the telescope lab, but they accidentally lost her during a trip to the park.”

It long ago devolved into Friends-Lite [ and honestly, revisiting Friends demonstrates that however pleasant it could be — mainly because the participants, unlike The Big Bang Theory placed a high value on prettiness — it was wondrously inane, and quite frankly, stupid. Even imbecile. ] — and now has drifted further into tedious soap opera.

I never quite understood how a policeman would explain his wife running an illegal enterprise. Even if he worked for LAPD, who may be more swashbuckling and less go-by-the-book than, say, the cops of Yorba Linda, where he lives.
( I don’t think it was ever said where he was a policeman. )

Given that we’ve never seen Bernie’s siblings, or really even heard of them other than that once, I’m willing to go on record that they are (mostly) fake.

I can understand how, if she hated having to take care of them, they’re not a part of her life now.

Look, we know Sheldon has a twin sister and older brother. One has appeared on the show and the other’s cruelties to Sheldon have been mentioned. Leonard’s older siblings and their professional successes have been mentioned. Howard and Amy are only children, though we’ve seen Howard has a half brother. We’ve seen Raj’s sister on the show. I think he has other siblings, not sure. Penny’s brother is somehow involved with methamphetamines.

All Bernie has said about any of her siblings is that she used to have to take care of them. Nothing more. You’d think sooner or later there’d be some sort thing where some of her siblings might be introduced. Maybe at the baby shower?

I think Bernie has five siblings, although she’s never given the gender breakdown. She’s the oldest. Raj, IIRC, has four brothers and two sisters. Penny has a sister as well as a brother. Leonard is the middle child: his sister is older and his brother is younger. We’ve never been told where Penny is in the spread of her siblings, but her sister is married with at least one child, and her nephew was like, 11 in the episode where she bought him a comic book. We also know Penny’s sister “had” to get married; even if she was 16 when she was married, she still must be older than Penny, since it was an early episode before Penny was dating Leonard, and was only 23 or 24.

I agree the show is not as great as it once was, although I have to say, as a woman, I like the episodes with more female characters. The earliest Bernie/Amy episodes are probably generally my favorites. One of my very favorites is the one where Howard comes back from space, and Sheldon, Amy, Leonard and Penny get into a gender/gaming war. It has lots of physical humor. Anyway, it’s still better than most shows on. It’s the only sitcom I make a point of watching every week. I normally get laughs watching bad science and psychological Rube Goldberg on shows like Criminal Minds. Try watching The Odd Couple (the new one) or 2 Broke Girls if you want to see some bad TV.
